I was in an abusive marriage and stayed for 13 years. Why stay/put up with it? Fear. The fear of not being able to support yourself and/or kids. The fear of him saying he is going to kill you if you leave. The fear of being alone and no one will ever love you like he did (according to him). The fear of change. One has to have been in that situation to ever understand it, but in my experience, the only option is to dig deep, find the courage, and leave. The abuse will not stop once it starts, and that is a given. I wish this person all the best.
