apprenticeship/internship

some companies now have apprenticeship or internship programs.  You should try to get in touch with a recruiter from a company and ask about if they have such a program.  That is how I got started at Medware.  Good luck!

    Apprenticeship??
I'm not sure how you can possibly say that $7.50 is minimum wage, in most states that is still $5.15, which makes the starting about 68% above that. The ending wage of $15/hour is WELL above any minimum wage. Those guidelines, by the way, are established by the Department of Labor, who said get surveys about what the industry norms are for income and start the apprenticeship at 50% of that and move it to 100% at the end of two years.
    Apprenticeship
What is the apprentice all about?  Is that a new medical transciber program?  Sorry, but I just had to ask as I have seen it mentioned a bunch of times on this board in the past.
    Apprenticeship
Maybe you are thinking about the apprenticeship program that is going to be administered by MTIA. The Department of Labor has approved medical transcription as an apprenticeable occupation and it will now have an apprenticeship available. They have developed specific guidelines and one is eligible for participation only after completion of an approved program. I'm sure you can find more information on their website.
    apprenticeship program
First we get downsized, next outsourced, then threatened within an inch of our livs by ASR. Now this. Cool website. Good article. Great idea.....but SHOW ME THE MONEY.
Well, we can write to the Dept. of Labor's Apprenticeship people
and tell them that the AAMT's proposal is not what MTs want, and that the AAMT has only a very tiny percentage of MTs as members.  If a lot of people do this, then the Dept. of Labor might think twice about the proposal, especially if everyone gives reasons.
    internship
A lot of internships are unpaid.  If it is 60 or 90 days then I would take it but I wouldn't take it indefinitely at that rate.
    Meditec Internship

Is anyone out there involved with Meditec's internship program?  If so, would you respond and tell me what you think about it?

    Thanks!!!!

    Meditech internship
Does anyone know if it is worth the effort?  I really do not have much information on this school but to do this internship I would have to give up my day job where I make good money but it is not what I want to do with my life?  I went to PCDI and truely not a good education and I worked parttime as an MT for over a year but I was never able to put out the number of lines per day needed thus the point I've been fired.  I do not blame the company for letting me go they have to meet a certain production and I did not meet it and now I've been offered this internship through them.  So I was thinking about furthering my education with one of the top 3 shcools on my own time or just doing the internship.  Does anyone have any ideas.  I do enjoy transcribing but I need to learn a lot and this is not a fly by career as advertised by many schools who do not teach properly.  So I know the basics and I have a long road to go, I will learn from my mistakes and move on.  I am grateful for what I have learned so far.  I am trying not to have a bad attitude because it is my fault I went the cheap way for an education thinking everyone who advertised the 3 shcools were just advertising for them but now I truely understand.  If I do the Meditech then there is job placement.  I really do not want to give up my day job yet and a part of me thinks I should start all over again with a new school that has placement and helps with the certification.  I want to go all the way, I am in my 30's and feel like I'm just learning what I want to do with my life.  I wish I would have started many yearsago but didn't.  I guess I'm just rambling on here and I hope that someone responds.  Thanks
    Does internship mean not paid?
    .
    Internship program?
Has anyone had any experience with an internship program? Or heard any good feedback from one program in particular? I would tremendously appreciate any comments!! Thank you!
    Paid internship
What are your thoughts on this?  I found a paid internship on the other board and if I pass the test, the pay is 0.04 cpl for transcription and 0.02 cpl for editing.  Then after you successfully make it through the internship time period, they will up you to the company's line rate.  What do you guys think?  Is this too low for an internship?
    Internship contracts
I am wondering if anyone has experience with companies requiring an internship contract that states that if the intern quits anytime within 2 years of signing that she will be charged $25 per hour in logged QA fees that could "potentially amount to thousands of dollars" (per contract). The starting line rate is decent, but there is no guaranteed increase, and advancement is at the discretion of the employer/mentor. Is this legal?
consider your first year like an internship - sm
At times you'll make less than minimal wage... especially your first times with different accents, different types of procedures, etc.  Give it a year to start making any money, but then suddenly you will have a big jump.  As far as $0.06 a line?  Even as a new MT I think $0.08 is the lowest reasonable rate.  Anything lower is an insult... consider turning it down if you can... or take it and just look at it as an extension of your education but don't expect to pay your bills.  Best to you... I've been an MT for 9 years and do make a good living, I'm on my own with no help and bought a house, nice car... but to be very honest I don't think I'd recommend this career now to someone just starting out.  But if you have any gumption at all you can make it - or anything - work and be successful.
The internship is 3 to 4 weeks long
and as long as you reach their quality requirements then they'll move you off of the internship and increase your line rate. The ad is at the link below
Have you seen: Internship offers 3cpl on Job Seekers Bd?
Even as an intern, that should be considered criminal. I don't understand what some companies are thinking when they do that sort of thing.

    Just a thought.
