ankle edema question

I am very concerned because just recently I started getting pitting edema in my ankles. They are extremely bad. I can't wear socks it is so bad. I don't have a clue what could be causing it. I did have 3 kidney stones last year that I don't think ever passed out of my bladder but I have no more trouble out of it. Then no other problems. I dont go to the restroom hardly at all, which has me worried. I have tried Lasix which worked but I get scared because I feel dehydrated. Mouth is dry, etc. It has me worried for DVT or CHF. I am only 38.
Any ideas what else it could be or if I am needing to go to ER ASAP. I dont have insurance so I dont want to go if it is just from sitting at the computer all day and is normal.

solving leg/ankle edema
Yes, it comes from sitting too long. Try standing up and moving around a bit more during the day, or take 15 minutes and put your feet up above the level of your heart to alleviate dependent edema.
You might also try adjusting your chair so it doesn't cut off your circulation at the back of the knees, or even putting something under the desk to put your pedal on to make it a graded elevation instead of lying flat on the floor.
Hope that helps!
Your ankle won't be healed in 3 weeks?? I have sprained my ankle before and usually a week tops
granted I don't know the "circumstances" but I really find it hard to believe you can still work (footpedal) but cannot drive in 3 weeks. If you are still in so much pain and on crutches then, then you have much more than a sprain.
leg and hand edema
I have had a problem with swelling in my lower legs and feet and also my hands for the past few years now. When this first started I had problems with headaches, went to the doctor and found my blood pressure was high. So now I take HCTZ 75/50 once a day and do pretty well on it. It is a pretty good diuretic and my B/P is very well controlled on it.
In the mornings I have no swelling at all, but I notice though that by the end of my workday my hands and legs are really swollen. My doctor says to just start exercising regularly and elevate my feet whenever possible. I also try to avoid salt. I'm a bit overweight so I'm sure that is not helping either.
I'm just curious if any of you other MTs have this problem also and how you deal with it.
Have one all the way around my ankle and am considering another! sm
I am setting a personal goal for myself that if I can lose 30 pounds, I "get" to have another tattoo; haven't decided on small of back or back of shoulder! I love my first tattoo and have had many compliments on it, so I think more would see it on the back of my shoulder. It really didn't hurt that bad, but after having kids, I have a pretty good pain tolerance. It really just felt like someone was scratching you and kind of got used to it once it went on for about 10 minutes! Filling in the color does hurt a little more, but it was really and truly not that bad!!! Good Luck :)
ankle pain
You know, my ankle has been hurting for the last month or so. I never thought to attribute it to my foot pedal. But it is the foot I use on the pedal.
popping ankle
Tendon which runs through and along the ankle 'slips-out' of the channel in the bone in which the tendon normally rests and slides through (kinda like a belt or rope in a pully. Due to a couple of different reasons the tendon can become disloged from the "process" and get pinched. The popping is made when the tendon snaps back into place.
Can't type with a broken ankle?
Can't believe I am this right sided! I have a broken ankle (right) and can't seem to coordinate my left foot on the pedal with my hands on the keyboard! I know this will pass, but it sure is wierd!!!!
Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle and cannot drive (sm)
so that is why I was going to take the Amtrak!
The SOBs won't pick me up. How's that for family.
Yeah, I was thinking that, but in my ankle?
Usually that is in the calf, is it not?
Ugh...I just don't need this right now.
Anyone have ankle swelling in their pedal foot? sm
Does anyone else have swelling in their calf/ankle/foot after a long day of typing? Also I have shin splint symptoms in the anterior shin which I think may be from just overuse. I have been doing this type of work many years and am overweight. Just wondering if anyone else has these sort of symptoms because I am wondering if it is just from MTing and weight or if I need to go to the doc and get tests run.
Thanks
Not me, but kids' friends have them. Behind your shoulder or on your ankle would be nice. nm

I'm thinking about starting Curves again. I used to go but had to have surgery on my ankle and
just never started back up again. I was thinking when the kids start school, I might start going right after the leavein the morning. I don't start work until 10 a.m. I loved it the first time around. I get bored really easy and so constantly switching machines and moving around really appealed to me. I lost about 20 pounds the first time, but then I gained it all back and then some after my surgery cause I had to be off my feet for about two months and then of course my VERY sedentary job as an MT.
We should get buddy system going on here where we encourage each other and stuff. Cause I don't have any real life buddies to go with me. When you work at home, you're sort of isolated. Plus I just moved to a new place and only know my sister and she is a full-time RN with a very crazy schedule and loooooong hours.
My ankle pops. It's not painful, but occasionally it will get stiff and then pop very loudly.
