Discharge Summaries
Hello, can anyone help me? I have done medical transcription for three years at an acute care clinic. The doctor I worked for bought me text books and tested me until I had sufficient knowledge in the subject, and I became his medical transcriptionist.
I am now trying to find a job doing MT work at home, and I am currently taking an online test for a company. My question is, if a specific format is not indicated, which format do I use as a default, for
discharge summaries, acute care, operative, and radiology.
any help would be appreciated.

Do any of you do all discharge summaries? If so, can you build up speed if given the appropriate time to learn the account?

Not a mental block. Just a REALLY slow work type for me too. Hate them too, but as perverse as MQ is, I get them all day long!!

Discharge summaries are the pits. Consults and H&Ps might get better, maybe not.
Are acute care discharge summaries (sm)
Considering job for small hospital doing DS. Rating 1-10, difficult being 10, easy to learn. What is line count compared to clinic work.
I used to have to type DSs (discharge and death summaries.)
It was tough, especially the young mothers or children.

I have health issues and this bed has been wonderful for me. My husband up until we got our sleep number bed was always up by 4-5 in the morning because of pain. He hasn't had any pain since. It was well worth the money for us.
Anybody have a digital camera they are absolutely in love with?
I'm looking to purchase one this weekend, preferably under $300, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. The one I have now is cheap and you can't even see what you're aiming at, so I think a disposable camera is an improvement, but was hoping to get some "expert" advice!! Thanks!

Yes, you can make awesome money editing VR; however, it depends on the platform and line rate. Personally, I have been workin on eScription's EditScript for the past 5 years and absolutely love it and can't say enough about it.
You can tend to get a little bored from time to time, just like with anything else. When that happens, I take frequent breaks to rejuvenate.

Like everything else in life, you take the good with the bad. Get bored sometimes, but I make a great line rate and work for a great hospital. I will take the boredom - really can't complain.
From what I have heard, you either love VR or hate it. Personally, I love it, but I think it really does depend on the VR platform. eScription is the best VR platform out there in my humble opinion. I have worked on several and some were just downright terrible.
Yes and absolutely worth it. I love to work
outside when weather permits. I don't do it every day because hooking up and unhooking and having to carry everything gets to be a pain, but I do it on occasion. I also like to travel, which is why I got a laptop to start with. It allows me to work in the car or a couple of hours a day wherever we go so there is still some income, but I also have time to enjoy time with family.

I, like you, produce 2500 to 3000 lines per day and CAN pay my bills on it; however, I do make way above the average cpl on EditScript.
I've got a DX6490, 4 megapixel and absolutely love it. sm
It is so easy to use. Daughter is in the High School band, so we've taken a ton of pictures of the band kids over the past 2 years, always get compliments. So good that the band teacher just bought a Kodak for himself. Very easy to e-mail, print pictures. I have great action shots with mine. Just one tip, if you're planning on using the night-time feature, be sure to get a tripod. You really need to be steady for that. You will be very happy.

I've typed several that have left me sobbing, spilling tears on my keyboard quite literally, over the line: The patient passed away peacefully with his entire family at the bedside. After I would dry my tears and wipe off my keyboard, I would wonder why that statement was deemed medically pertinent?

What is the minimum and maximum TAT for discharge summaries have you had?
Breast discharge
I saw my doctor today for breast discharge, amber colored, from several ducts in the right breast. I am having a mammogram Friday. My doc did not feel any lumps. I am very nervous.
Has anyone had an experience similar to this and have some possibly reassuring words for me?

That's got to be a record, at least from my end -- i was thankful when he dictated that reader was referred to chart for most of them -- wow. how can a body handle all that really??
Basic 4 = op notes, consults, H&Ps, Disch. Summaries.
Most services want at least 2 years of experience and a high score on a screening test. Consider your options carefully and read the archives regarding pros and cons of working for services. A few are great; most are not.

Believe it or not, they are the WORST dictators!! For people who should know the terminology and pronunciation of medical words and meds, they sound like first-graders trying to sound out every other word. I absolutely hate doing their charts. They are both American, but they're worse than ESLs for even basic medical words.

the only reason i entertained watching it was because of mark burnett and as usual he has such genious casting and editing. btw, don't know who anything about "metal" music but these performers make me like it. love marty and jd as performers. HATE JESSICA. susie is so nice and so emotional. it seems they all support each other and enjoy each others skills. regarding ty and bob marley, ty was excellent but he also lucked out on the song! bob marley was genious too and his music is very easy to listen to. i don't like 3/4 of what the others are given to sing but their performances make me love the music. dave navarro shines on this show, very gracious for the most part and letting the contestants down easy when they have to leave. he was great last night with brandon (?). sweet, sweet show. i am so impressed with everyone involved.

Can I ask how you sit there for 8 hours. Lately, I'm having a motivation problem. When I focus, I can rack up the lines, but lately, I get so easily distracted. My mind wanders and I struggle to get my lines. Any tips on how you stay productive who do you work for?? I work for Transcend.
People either love it or hate it. I personally love it
but I know a lot of people say you cannot make any money on it and will not work on it. I do okay. I'm obviously not getting rich but I am making a living. I found it easier than Dictaphone and faster such in downloading and uploading job and you only have to log on one system and not like Dictaphone where you have to log onto the VPN and then log onto the program. It's always worth a try, but yes, the biggest complaint I hear is that no one can make a living and the cpl isn't that great.
I went back in house and love it. I love not being
secluded. I was working in my PJs, less organized and feel much better now that I get up and dress for work and see people (even those in traffic aren't so bad anymore). I find that I have more of a life now, and my family says that I spend more time with them now.
Working at home served its purpose for a long time; I was ready to go out into the world again now that I have no little ones at home.

The arms can be lowered so they won't be in your way, I don't know about the tilt limiter. But I bought my off ebay about 6 years ago and can't do without it. No I do not think you can find another chair that even compares to the aeron, changed my working life completely, no sore back or butt. You won't regret it, but you will if you go for a cheap imitation.
