forget PLEASE don't forget that there are approx 2,000 registered sex offenders - now unregistered, who have vanished and relocated. Uggghhh. Perfect chance, a natural disaster, for them to crawl under a rock and lurk for some poor victim.

I think you ought to kick the creep to the curb and be done with him.
Living life like that isn't living life at all. You need to do what makes you happy. Never, ever, stay together because of the kids. Your kids are probably not the happiest children with the home situation the way it is, and you know that he already doesn't want the responsibility of taking care of your kids, so what's the use in having him hanging around your neck like an albatross?
I was married to a jerk who was very similar to your husband and with 3 children it wasn't easy to manage on my own, but I sure did it and I'm glad I did. It was difficult getting out of my "comfort" (discomfort) zone and make the change, but I knew it had to happen. That was nearly 5 years ago now and I am happier and my children are happier. Dear old dad comes around whenever he feels like it to see the kids and I have his paycheck garnished for child support.

Excuse me..these people were not displaced
either local, state, or federal...they were displaced due to a HURRICANE!. Help them get over this preventable tragedy? How do you prevent a hurricane the size of the Gulf of Mexico from running into U.S. soil? Let's see..I don't know what the president has been doing since 911. He should have been trying to figure out ways to knock apart a hurricane before it hits land. What a screw up he is.

I am a good Editor trying to find a new work home. The company I work for is downsizing and I am afraid I am next. I would like to have a place where I can have benefits as I have children.
Does such a place exist anymore?

FEMA will give $2000 to each displaced family IF
they can provide an address where they will be in 14 days. These people have no idea where they will be tomorrow, let alone 14 days. Another example of the disgustingly poor management that has been so evident this 1-1/2 weeks.
