Your gut instincts are right

Were you working at MQ when we were informed that our "gift" for National MT week was that the company was going to make a monetary contribution to AAMT in our names?? That was our first clue as to where their (AAMT) loyalties were and are. I was outraged at that but for some reason most MTs at that time didn't seem to have a problem with it. I'm glad I left MQ. They make me sick.

Thanks. I know for many MQ MTs (or just other AAMT MTs) it was obvious where AAMT was going (and it wasn't good). I hung in with both AAMT and MQ way too long. Everyone has their own time table, I guess. Woulda shoulda coulda... I don't remember being at MQ when they made a donation to AAMT in MQ MTs names - wow. That's just crazy. I'm just amazed at how I looked the other way for so long. I guess I just wanted it to be different. I never imagined when I started in this career (24 year ago) that it would turn out to be this way (with pay stagnation and lack of recognition of MTs essential contribution patient health care). When I started, there was always the joke about MTs being in the broom closets/basement of the hospitals - I worked in some pretty cramped quarters. Amazingly, MTs are still at the bottom of the totem pole/food chain? with everyone from the hospital administrators to the owners of big and little MTSOs looking for ways to cut our pay.

I wish out of this mess that somehow we could organize another group of MTs and for MTs - yes, U.S. MTs - that could fight for fair pay for straight transcription OR VR (which I think is a joke and just another way to cut pay).

I'm glad I can share what I think.

I appreciate the response.
Trust your instincts. You know best
what your needs, abilities and interests are. If you need or want to explore another career path, why not?
I would suggest some vocational testing either online or in person. Check around your city for vocational services. Whatever you do, don't let yourself feel trapped. Good luck.
Trust your instincts. If you don't think
they have their act together and can't find any other info, keep looking. Good luck.
No. You are capable of following instincts and justifying them
not everyone has the same instinct. but some of us have instincts we choose not to follow. CHOICE is the key word here. Maybe someone could make a particular person mad enough to kill. Not all people will follow through on the instinct.
I would follow my instincts. It sounds as if
you know that it's time to move on. I would encourage you not to settle for your present situation if you're unhappy. If you can start at home with the national on the weekends or something and see how it works out, that's one idea. In the meantime, start looking around. It's easier to look for a job while you still have one. If you need to train for another career, begin now while you still have a steady paycheck. Whatever you do, don't stay stuck and miserable. Good luck to you.
