No worries, it's all for the best
Georgie's mom....apparently compassionate conservatism is genetic.
"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary,is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overhwlemed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle)--this is working very well for them." Barbara Bush at the Houston Astrodome
Hey, no worries - it happens. SM
I happen to have the Stedman's, so that's what I use, but as far as I know it's not better than Dorland's - both about the same.
Worries me....
everytime I hear about it because my aunt died of it and two of my other aunts had it. My sister just found a lump about a month ago, but luckily not cancer... We definately need to keep up on our exams...
No worries
Several years ago, when I worked for a hospital, they were threatening VR daily (I think to make us scared so they could cut our production pay which they did). Then, they outsourced. Guess what? Back to hiring inhouse, and they can't even find day shift transcriptionists because there are too many jobs now they are bringing transcription back inhouse and getting rid of VR, using it sporadically. I spoke to at least 2 doctors in the last month who told me they would and could never do without their medical transcriptionist. Although they claim they speak clearly they realize a computer and an Editor may not be enough for them. As a matter of fact, I was afraid like you are. But I am not afraid now. Another doc said to me just the other day when I went for my physical for a hospital job (finally a job for a hospital again) that I am lucky to be an MT, there will always be work for me. What I am afraid of however are companies which hide the way they count lines, or when I live up to my incentive pay and cannot afford it if my incentive gets cut like the hospital did years ago. I try to always have my bills under my incentive instead of 100%, in case of something bad happening again. You are not crazy, we have been going through this for years, and finally, I believe when you hear that from a job or a rumor, it is a control tactic to try to get you to work cheaper or harder than you already are which is probably hard enough! Good luck. And please try not to worry. Your skills are very valuable.
No worries
I normally type 200 digital minutes per day so I was trying to equate that to lines. I was told that a good MT with many shortcuts could do 3000 lines in an 8-hour shift. But, they pay is only 8 1/2 cents for radiology which is not that good (I don't think). I was hoping someone could help and you did, thank you :)
Just imagine-- no worries
I would love to wake up every morning and have no worries about gas prices going up even higher, whether or not I can afford my utility bill, whether or not I as a single woman will be able to find someone to help me with heavy work and things I can't do by myself, etc. No matter what state of chaos the world is in, they just go on about their daily routine, just like they always have. They also help each other-- what a novel idea. Their lifestyle is sounding better all the time-- a big plus for me is that I already have a horse.
No worries, Taylor has it in the bag!!!!!! :-)
No doubt!
Things will go quicker, smoother and with less worries,,,,,,
:p
Taking time off without the worries is great
I think too many times IC's are treated like employees. The OP is an IC and has a set schedule? If you have a set schedule (no freedom), you should be deemed an employee and given PTO days, etc. IC's should not be made to let anyone know anything. Two weeks is an extended amount of time and out of courtesy she should let her "client" even if that is an MTSO know in advance that she will not be available to work those two weeks. As for toting a laptop on vacation, not me! The whole idea of a vacation is to relax and not have to worry about typing. Most physicians do understand that you need a vacation. They will cut you some slack. Not sure about a two week period though. Someone with their own accounts that wants to take off extended periods of time (more than one week) should probably find someone to "cover". I have also found in this profession that transcriptionists do not trust others as they could try to steal their accounts if they were to take time off leaving the account in someone else's hands literally. All the more reason to network and find someone trustworthy who will scratch your back and you in turn scratch their back when needed. Tit for TAT so to speak but at a fair price.
No worries.. thats the one who keeps telling us to clean our trailers and get an education.
I agree. The silly phone calls just make the worries worse, if

Bigger isn't always better!
I know that one small private online service does nothing but the Mayo Clinic. It's a very nice little company who does quality work.
10-15% seems low, they like bigger
At Acusis, competitive pay means competitive with third world countries. Company is for all intents and purposes an India company. Start looking before the mass exodus.
Oh, boy, yep, you got bigger problems than me...
Isn't life grand? Sorry I can't offer any advice but to hang in there and do what's best for you. I don't know you, of course, but *hugs*.
Bigger puzzles?
Have you seen the books with the huge grafts? I have not tried these yet.
I see a bigger picture there than you do - sm
I see the state of US healthcare as a whole, which is going steadily downhill. It's a complicated mess and will take a lot of scrutinizing and picking apart to have any hope of cleaning up some of its dirtier secrets. Taking surveys in various sectors of that industry (especially in MT, a sector that for the most part is totally swept under the rug and ignored) is at least a step in the right direction. Not being interested in taking a survey is a personal decision, and if you feel threatened by it, then by all means steer clear if it makes you feel better. But your all-out attack on the idea, which seems to center around a PayPal button, seems skewed somehow, and makes me think you are MORE threatened by the thought that our profession's dirty laundry just might get aired.
That's nice, but they have a bigger problem SM
with the fact that their own employees take the information home on laptops....per the letter I received last week from the VA notifying me that my information had been stolen from someone's car...
Bigger concern is your husband!!
Aside from the fact that your husband's friend is a jerk, what is your husband saying about the fact that he will not give you this female's phone # so you can call her back and let her hear a piece of reality here!! It's as if your hubby is saying this is a game here and it's "okay". Does the fact that this lady called him give him some kind of a charge, a little excitement for him? I would question his ethics first, after all, if he's willing to keep this number from you, what else would he think is none of your business? Sorry, but that's the bigger problem.
the Az Humane Socity said 2 lbs or bigger

BTW, the bigger issue made of my...sm
smoking.... the more I smoke. That happens to be true of lots of smokers. So, don't bug her about it. She's more likely to do it on her own if you drop it.
Women now are into the bigger crimes
so a woman does not gain entrance into my house. Your daughters are really old enough to know better. I had 2 women come here 1 day, raining outside and they were shivering and wanted entrance and I said NO. I know anyone can get in if they want but no sense in making it easier for them. I saw a police chase yesterday (thought coming from Calif as ones that happen here usually when it is over) but live and the people got out and ran- husband is saying is that not a female? It was and she along with a male trying to escape. I had someone in uniform (who most people trust) show up 1 day asking to use my phone- no way Jose, told them give me a # and I will call for you. I am very, very aware of all around me and no one enters my house through the garage or front door (while I am home, of course) without my letting them in. Rural versus city no different. Crime happens everywhere.
LOL! I've already had to buy a bigger monitor
my problem is that my keyboard shelf only allows space for the keyboard and I love this desk - is a corner desk - now with more constant use of mouse my shoulder aches because it is higher- I have to figure out how to make space for the mouse - any suggestions? Need a man to jigsaw me an extension, I guess.
The bigger the better. Flat screen.

If you are wanting to make it bigger, but
not affect the final report, look on your tool bar and there should be a box that has a number/percentage in it. Mine says 100%. You can increase it there so it is bigger on the screen, but does not change the "font" of the report. This is in MS Word.
MS Word....anyone know how to get the text to appear bigger
Help if you can! Thanks!

Easier if you're in a bigger city
I went to an open "cattle call" sponsored by one of the big modeling agencies at a Holiday Inn once some years ago with my DD. Didn't cost any money but did involve several hours of standing around.
Wouldn't hurt to call around to the modeling agencies like another poster said, but I do believe you will have to pay for some photographs, at least. The other factor involved is if the kid can go for a long time without crying or throwing fits in a boring environment. That was my DD's problem. I did have to pay for comp cards made out of an existing photograph. Nothing came out of it for us, but it is possible to look into it without getting rooked.
Because it sits up and has bigger digital numbers.
My eyesight's a goin' in my old age here! LOL
You just have to tap it on top...lots easier.
With the stopwatch, I have to pick it up and press the timer each time.
my butt will probably just get bigger, but I choose face
Look at Madonna, bod is solid as a rock but that FACE ---eek
Sounds like you have one child that is a lot bigger in size than the others!
I used to get that too-- mine worked 4-10s while I worked 5-8s. When I got home, I had to fix dinner, clean up the house, took care of my horse, etc., and when he got home, he just would lay around. If I asked him to do something, it was always that he was "too tired-- because he worked 10 hours. Yet he had a whole extra day off to go fishing or do whatever he wanted while I was at work-- I told him I was working the same number of hours he was-- and I didn't get a three day weekend! These "poor" men are spoiled rotten and women always get the short end of the deal.
My satellite for the Direcway is on my roof! It is bigger than..sm
my TV satellite, but the best place for the internet was on the roof! I have never had any trouble or "slow" times with it. I have worked through ice, rain, snow...you name it and it has always loaded quickly and with no interuptions. If you have no other ways for high speed, I would recommend the Direcway dish. We have nothing else offered where I live. It is satellite or dial up. Files that would take 1/2 a day or more are now loaded in as little as 5-10 minutes! Also, I have worked for three different companies with my satellite and have never had any security issues and have never had to purchase additional software to make it secure. Cost to me was 600 up front and then 59 a month.
Ditto on the same monitor. Doesn't need to be any bigger. nm

Can someone tell me in layman's terms how to do this? Thanks!
Well let's just say I'm sitting here without
work, which is a typical day for me. Does that help any?
re: sitting on leg
Please, try to break this habit. I sat on my leg for years and years and my neurologist has told me he forbids his patients to sit on legs, cross anything but the ankles! This because of all the peripheral vascular disease, sciatica and DVT's.
Pet sitting
I make good money at it and it is fun
Sitting
When I started transcribing, I had a lot of problems with sitting. I am a pretty fidgety person, so I can't usually work without at least a 5-minute stretch every hour, 2 hours at the absolute most. I did a lot of research into office ergonomics, & one of the most helpful things I found was this:
Q: What is the best sitting position?
A: The next one.
So I try to not stay locked in one position for a long time.
Also when I first started working, I started getting 4th & 5th digit numbness. This can be an ulnar nerve compression or a disk problem. I tried to look at how I was positioned at my desk, & what I discovered is this: The higher my monitor, the worse my neck pain was, because the more I would round my back & crunch my neck (chin jutting). There are a lot of places selling things that lift the monitor higher, & this is the exact opposite of what I needed. Also I need to have my knees lower than my hips in order to avoid the tendency to round my back.
The chin jutting/back rounding was pretty obvious, but I wasn't sure what was going on with my wrists. Anyway, I took the shotgun approach & immediately got a downview desk (monitor is under glass), a modified "kneeling chair," (I removed the knee rests but use it for the seat tilt), and a Kinesis keyboard. My chair does not have any back rest at all, & yet I am so well balanced that I am very comfortable without it. I had some wedge-shaped foam cut and occasionally I use this as a seat cushion. It helps maintain the hip tilt & gives my butt a rest.
After I made these changes, my numbness disappeared completely in a couple of weeks and has never come back, & I've been doing this work for around 6 years with the same setup.
Can't help you with the hair loss issue.
Hope this helps.
Sitting all day...
You can look forward to your backside expanding as well! The more years that go by, the wider I get!
When it comes to sitting all day, sm
I have been at this 15 years. My backside is actually SMALLER then when I started. I have not become obese at this, quite the reverse. It is all in what you do when you are not sitting at your desk.
You actually DO need to get up and at least stretch, hourly anyway and you need to have an actual break every 3 hours, that being 15 minutes or so. You also need to break to eat lunch. No one expects you to sit for 8 hours straight, nor should you.
I remember being a new MT and the excitement of the work and what I was doing, and my pleasure in it and trying to do it right, etc. meant I didn't want to get up. I was trying to find that magical flow. I did, but I developed less than great working habits. You are new, learn to balance. Having a break can renew your spirits, your energy and reduce your stress.
Hair loss is probably not work related so have that checked out. Hypothyroidism, lupus, etc cause it.
Sitting
I have a bad back, if I go to school for medical transcription, is there any way to cope with prolonged sitting? WHat kind of chair do you use? What do you do?
point-of-care mobile devices - that is a bigger threat...
another excerpt:
It is no longer a question of whether medical transcription will survive. The move away from traditional, free-text medical transcription is inevitable, given the improvements in speech recognition technology and natural language processing; the development of standardized templates through HL7’s CDA (clinical document architecture), ASTM schema, and other similar efforts; XML-based communication; and point-of-care mobile devices that will ultimately facilitate real-time documentation. And it is very clear that real-time, point-of-care documentation by the practitioner will replace transcription! This can already be seen in countries outside the United States that are developing direct entry, interactive, structured text documentation without going through all the evolutionary steps from traditional, free text transcription.
I agree. Life is too short. Be the bigger person and keep reaching out.
My sister is a big 'ol gossip. She has talked about me more times than I can remember and she has been telling our mom on my all my life. She and I would have bitter fights as adults and not speak for months at a time, but then one day I realized that she's never going to change. So I basically stopped confiding in her things I didn't want to the world or my mom to know and moved on. We have a great relationship now mostly because I won't allow myself to be in a position where she can make me angry.
You could have a bigger gift delivered to their home, too, and just put a note in the card. How

Tired of sitting
I can stand to sit for just so long and then I have to get up and move around. Sitting and pounding a keyboard makes me more exhausted than if I was doing something physical. When I am doing something physical, I feel much better and am not as cranky.
As if we don't do it enough sitting at the computer! (sm)
If I do transcribe while I am dreaming I surely don't remember when I wake up. I'm usually passed out the second my head hits the pillow. Don't remember a thing when I wake up. Heaven Forbid!
Ha, sitting here waiting
for work!
