service release 1 for Word 2000, but you still need to fix the problem since it's already there. Close Word. Click the Start button, then Run, then type regedit in the box and click okay.
In the left pane, click through to this path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/8.0/Word/Data
It might say 9.0 or 10.0 depending...
Once you have the data folder open, look in the right pane for Toolbars. Right click on Toolbars and delete. Close out that window and then open Word. Your toolbar settings will rebuild when you open Word.
Apparently, this is a big problem with the original release of 2000, but is fixed in the service release 1.
