I've noticed that in those types of posts that they rarely say where or how they're doing this.  It's usually more so of a rubbing-it-in-your-face type of statement responding to someone else who is distressed about what's going on in this profession. 

I strongly suspect that even if those particular posters are indeed telling the truth that their situations are the exception because they're certainly not the general rule from what I'm hearing from MT's both all over the Internet and offline.   

I've found over the years that it's not just skill and experience that helps you reap the financial rewards in this industry.  A good bit of the time it's also influenced by the luck of the draw in the types of accounts and dictators you get in addition to a myriad of other factors.  And I'm in no way demeaning those who are highly skilled and experienced.  In fact, I have the highest respect for those MT's who have mastered their craft.  All I'm saying is if you're in that high income boat don't try to make the rest of us believe that your ability and work ethic was the only thing that got you there.  Most of us have been around long enough to know that in the majority of the cases that's simply not true. 

I know many, many highly-skilled MT's who crank out perfect charts every day and have the highest work ethic who are working their way right into the poor house.

I have two accounts of my own and do vacation coverage for a few other MTs as well as occassional work for a lawyer and a psychologist.  I charge .15 for one clinic and .17 for the other clinic... clinic #2 is a husband/wife neurologist team, and the husband was a major A&& at first... with a very strong accent and every possible bad dictator habit you can imagine.  I told wife I would transcribe for her, but not for him, I had plenty of business.  She said charge whatever you want, have whatever turnaround time you want, just please don't leave.  At the time they were at .12... so I upped them to .17.  That was 5 years ago and now after having gotten to know him and his *quirks* I adore them both.  I am an IC, but they give me very large gift cards for Christmas, kind of in lieu of a bonus, I guess. 

Clinic #2... just this week took on another physician and I told them point blank it was too much for me to provide quick service and they may want to consider a service.  They said no way, we changed the turnaround time to one week with stats as needed.  I even asked them if they considered voice recognition and the office manager laughed and laughed. 

I am just now putting both clinics on digital, and after the initial cost, this will increase my estimated hourly wage as it will take away my delivery time and cost, and my paper and ink printing cost and time.  Though I still plan to visit each office on a regular basis for customer service and because I know my customer service is what got me here in the first place.

For the *occasional* work, the lawyer and pysch I charge $50/transcription hour. 

I know you will all doubt me.  But I work extremely hard, have put in my time with my education - not just learning MT but learning the ropes of running a business and how to do everything smarter, faster, and in the most efficient and sensible way possible.  I also have another business I do in a totally different field!  I am very blessed.  Well, I also know the fields I have chosen were perfect for me, and also I've had good luck.  You know what I think though?  I think my sense of humor and just being as honest and open and observant as possible has made this possible. 

Have not heard a single peep about what is current on the big MQ lawsuit.  Still being pursued?  This is too big not to hear from anyone about updates .... anybody?   I followed this for a long time in November/December/Jan, then POOF!  Realize that the wheels spin slowing in legal-ville, but sure would like it if somebody could throw us some crumbs of information. 

And if it has just fizzled out ... SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!

I have to vent.  I asked a question a few days ago, wondering if anybody heard anything about the big MQ lawsuit.  Now we all know that this is BIG.  But, not only did I only read maybe two responses (thank you, responders) to my specific question, but I have also not heard anything from anybody ELSE on this board regarding what is up with that. 

I am wondering:  a) is it under tight wraps and hush-hush for open discussion; b) do we have damage control by MQ intercepting posts of an informational nature on this;  or c) SOMETHING ELSE? 

Sure would appreciate if someone threw us a crumb.  Thanks in advance from the mushroom crew!

My ipay statement said is was for a DEP adjustment, but the majority of the lines in question were done on the various old platforms, Medwrite, Enterprise, etc...remember it goes back to 1998.

I got the ipay notice but no check or letter yet.  I have direct deposit but nothing in there either

I nor my friend have even considered a lawsuit.  I just get mad at being pre-DISQUALIFIED no matter how good I am at my work.   I have had to deal with this problem all my life, so it is nothing new. It is just that  I have never been visually disqualified for anything before in regard to work and this was a real eye-opener to me. 

And for the record.  Morbid obesity is a legal handicap and so is being left handed which I am both.  It is just sad.  Oh well... I will continue to work where I am appreciated for my job well done...and so will my friend....:)   They pay me way more anyway.
