You might try wireless keyboard and mouse--mine by Microsoft made it better and I was typing faster.
Just keep the wireless "thing" that both the mouse and keyboard transmit to (and the part that is connected to the computer) out in the open, not covered up by papers, books, etc.
I tried to go back to my other keyboard, the one that plugs in, and could hardly type on it. The wireless keyboard was a lot faster and so it is less work.
Hope this helps.

Wireless MS keyboard and mouse...sm
I just bought a wireless keyboard/mouse from Amazon, it is the Microsoft curved one... only $24 and I love it. I had to fool with it a little bit, the receiver and the channel button at the bottom of the keyboard, but it is very nice, and curved, because i am so used to using the split erogo ones, but this one is very good.
Computer not seeing wireless keyboard/mouse
I hooked up the mini receiver to the USB port, put all batteries in as directed, used the CD to install, turned off and then back on computer but when I type on the keyboard or use the mouse, nothing registers. I have to then hook up my plug in keyboard and mouse (why I am able to type right now).
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you in advance!

The Microsoft Wireless optical keyboard has greatly eased SM
The Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 keyboard (came packaged with wireless mouse at Staples), box says "standard keyboard + optical mouse) has greatly, greatly relieved symptoms on my elbows and wrists.
My elbows just stung before I got this keyboard. If I relax and kind of let it do what it wants, kind of get used to its touch, I really like it. It has greatly helped my elbow symptoms in particular.
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

They think the faster they talk - the faster you type - LOL EOM
?
I tried a wireless mouse
It was too loosy goosy. The cursor was all over the place. I returned mine.
You are not by any chance using a wireless mouse?... may need batteries. nm

If it is a wireless mouse, change the batteries; if not
then, I am not sure what the problem may be.
Microsoft wireless 3000
I've been looking. I'm working on one now. I LOVE the touch and it's VERY quiet. I hate clacky. I've worked on ones that I couldn't hear the dictation for the clacking; had to keep stopping and starting, listening while not typing. ack! anyway, I LOVE the touch and non-sound of this but it isn't split, and I'm having a hard time with that. I'm gonna keep looking

There's a 4000 too, with a hump in the middle. It's not quite as quiet and the touch isn't quite as easy.
microsoft wireless 4000
Another keyboard in this same curved group is the microsoft wireless 4000. You can access 5 "favorites" with the push of a button (I have Mtstars as #3, so don't have to go to Internet, type the Mtstars in the address box), and 5 other buttons on the side of the keyboard you can program to whatever you want also. Definitely is a time saver when trying to find something. And the slight curve is definitely a saver on the wrists and not such a change like some ergonomic keyboards to try get used to. It is a little more expensive, but definitely worth it, as long as we have to be on the keyboards as many hours as we are.
Why? because I can type faster than you
x
The lighter touch the keyboard the faster
you're likely to type. A stiff keyboard tires your wrists and takes more energy, but it is you that need to learn to type faster/smarter. Set your dictation speed up a little and try to keep up. I have mine on 105 99.9% of the time, except when I get those dictators who are so fast that you hoping slowing down the speed will help. You also need to use macros and get a word Expander and use it as much as possible. As the saying goes you need to work smarter not harder.
I did for a few months. I can type faster.
It wasn't the thing for me.
Don't laugh... Some men type faster (sm)
than some women I know... They grasp the medical concept terms, etc. very quickly... So ladies...Watch out we may get more men in this field!!
Me, too. Can read faster than I can type.
x
Clinic tends to type much faster...
so with your word Expander you could easily get up to 175 to 200 lines per hour, probably, a few months after starting work. You may be able to get 2500 lines done in 15 hours or so. Typically if you're working with a clinic you're going to have fewer docs to become familiar with and you're going to be able to create pretty decent templates for each one in your expander to save you lots of time. Hard to say, though, exactly. Good luck!
Do you type faster with music?
I love music (and rocking out!) but never have tried it while working. Does it help you to type faster?
Maybe I will try it!
For me, I felt I could type much faster than
the voice recognition. It does take several weeks/a month for you to train your voice on the software, if you do it religiously, that is speaking and speaking to get it trained. I found typing was much more efficient. And yes, you can listen to files in Express Scribe and then "speak" the words and it will type them, but until it is fully trained, I don't think you will see much benefit. Also, Word has speech tools that I used instead of buying Dragon, and it works just the same without spending all that money. I would say give it a try and see if it works for you. All of us are different and have different preferences. You may end up liking it and it works well for you. You just never know unless you try it out.
No, I mean physically type faster with my hands.
x
maybe a doctor would try it, but I type 10x faster than I write
x
It stinks. You can type it faster, it's tedious, it's tiring, and it's

Keep your fingers on the keyboard and not the mouse. sm
I average anywhere from 500 to 600 lines an hour on recognized files; however, it took a little while to get there.
There are eScription provides tips and shortcut keys so you do not have to use the mouse (a lot of control + keys).
Do you have those tips? If not, I could try to e-mail them to you.
A KVM is what you need. 1 keyboard, 1 mouse, 1 monitor.
Any office supply store has them, but stay away from Belken - their quality is not the best.
i use 1 keyboard and 1 mouse for 2 puters
but its not my router than enables that, but a KVM switch. I'm not familiar with wireless -- maybe some routers can do that, i'm no techie...but if you decide you want a kvm switch, i have an extra one i'd sell.
I put an old mouse pad under mine ...
and it worked perfectly.
P.S. I use an external LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse

I have the microsoft, and I like the keyboard, but
I don't like the built-in wrist rest. It's too hard, and I still have to put my gel pad on top of that. other than that, I like it. It took some getting used to for a couple of days.
Microsoft keyboard
I just got mine, but I really like it. It took about a week for me to get used to it. You have to get used to having your hands a little farther apart. I love the space bar and the favorites keys at the back. I suggest just giving it some time and keep typing on it. Good luck. You can customize a little by going to My Computer.
Microsoft keyboard
Try this. Press Shift/Ctrl, left and right side of keyboard at the same time, and hold for a second.
Navigating a page using keyboard keys/mouse
I have an HP desktop with MSWord, less than a year old, laser mouse.
I had a lot of problems with the keyboard, which was finally diagnosed as "keyboard failure". It was replaced, but it seems to be happening again and that the mouse is getting in on the action.
I want to know what the "computer speak" would be for the issues below. I'm trying to describe them in a letter. Indeed, is there a pithy way or phrase for:
1--Using the mouse or page up key cause a "stutter"--the text appears repeated (which was not actually typed) and the cursor won't move upward. The page sort of "stutters" or flickers and movement is stuck. I usually muse use the outside bar to break free and navigate up or click to another spot on the page and try again to move up via the mouse or the key.
2--Often, at the end of a document, I hit page up or the arrow up, nothing responds on the page. I may have to use the mouse to click on the page which then will get me a response to those keys' use.
As well, could either of these problems be related to my keyboard settings?
Thanks.
What was the Microsoft keyboard someone was talking about the other day

Try Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard
Hi, try Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. I don't know about the wireless ergo keyboard but I do know they are expensive than the wired ones. You could contact your local Microsoft hardware dealer.
microsoft 4000 keyboard
I have this awsome keyboard too. But i can't figure out when the cap lock is on until I go to type. I can't find anything in the tiny book that came with it. Did anyone get a booklet with theirs explaining the functions on the keyboard? Thank you so much!
Microsoft 4000 keyboard
I wanted to share a neat trick I recently figured out that I can do with my Microsoft USB Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (IntelliType Pro). I recently posted a query asking if there was a way to turn numbering off and on without using the mouse (which I hate), and I've discovered that there is with this particular keyboard. To turn the numbering feature on (for a list of current meds, for example), you hold down the Shift key, Ctrl key, and the key to the left of the Ctrl key that is the lower right of your keyboard (the key that looks like it has a picture of a page with an arrow on it). This brings up a drop-down menu and you can select numbering or bullets from there. the first time I did this, I discovered it made funky changes to my font, so I had to go in and set the font (by selecting the customize button in the lower right corner on the numbering option), and once I had it all tweaked to the way I wanted it, it appeared to have reset my default to the way to my preference. I apologize if this is confusing, but if you have this keyboard, and you have any questions about my instructions, feel free to ask, and I'd be glad to try to help!
Microsoft 4000 keyboard
Hey, I've realized you don't even have to do the key combination. Just pushing the one key with the picture on it brings up the numbering menu option.
Microsoft 4000 keyboard
You're right! I didn't realize that either. I suppose that button functions the same way on other keyboards as well. I just learned this 'trick,' and I was really excited. Too bad I hadn't realized this all along!
Kinesis Keyboard or Microsoft
I have been working on Kinesis Keyboards for 10 years and mine finally started to die. Has anybody went from Kinesis to the Microsoft Ergonomatic keyboard? I am trying to save cash but I am not sure if it would be worth the trade. Does anybody have any experience with this?
The New Microsoft 4000 Keyboard
Yes, I have a suggestion, TAKE THE BLAMED THING BACK AND GET THE OTHER TYPE OF KEYBOARD. I beta tested this thing for Microsoft and gave it an entire week to try to position my left hand differently and it just wouldn't happen. The sad part of it is that once I returned it and got one like I have used for years, I couldn't use it successfully for several days either because my fingers had tried very hard to retrain themselves. This keyboard is for an Internet junky and NOT for someone who uses a keyboard to earn a living transcribing. That is the conclusion I drew. I don't really know why Microsoft thought they needed to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. I was hoping that no one else would have the experience I had with this but looks like there may be several. Have a nice day!!!
I use the microsoft wave keyboard
I'm sorry I didn't go to that link but it sounds like my MS keyboard. I went to a wireless one a few months back b/c it was on sale and had bonus wireless mouse so I thought I would try it. I do like it; I tend to prefer a clacky keyboard (showin' my age!) and it clicks and clacks just enough to keep me happy without being too "hard." The positioning of the keys works for me. It's not as split as my old ergo keyboard, but those are hard to find in the stores anymore so I "made do."
Microsoft 4000 keyboard
Does anyone ever experience problems with their Microsoft 4000 keyboard where it will suddenly appear as if the Caps lock has been pushed, and your punctuation marks come out wrong and words are suddenly filling in with all caps and no matter what you do, it continues to happen?
I’ve worked in ChartScript and DocQScribe (currently working in the latter program) and had this happen. It’s as if my keyboard and the software are having compatibility issues or something totally out of the blue. Oftentimes, it will remedy itself, but if I do not want to wait that indeterminate amount of time, my experience has been that the only way to fix it is to totally shut down the computer and reboot, but that doesn’t always fix it. It doesn’t only happen in ChartScript and DocQscribe. I can open Word and type in there, and it does the same sort of squirrelly thing!
It’s so frustrating and wreaks havoc on productivity!!!
Microsoft 4000 v1.0 Keyboard
Is there any way to program my Microsoft 4000 v1.0 keyboard without the CD? I can't find it, and none of my extra buttons are working
Yes - if you have a mouse with a roller wheel you can hold down the control key on your keyboard the
or roll the mouse wheel backwards to decrease print size. This will also work on some web pages. Really great.
Can a wireless keyboard be used with a KVM set up? Thx. nm

wireless keyboard
Just to report a very odd experience I had. Wireless keyboard was periodically duplicating characters up to 5 to 7 times. Nuts-making! It never occurred to my computer guru that the keyboard batteries might be at fault, because whenever his own batteries went dead, his wireless keyboard simply stopped working completely. I replaced my batteries (rechargeable, low, but not "dead") with regular non-recharge fresh batteries and the duplication problem went away. This is prob unrelated to your difficulty, but at least weird things can happen.
Wireless keyboard
Wireless simply means that you don't have a wire connecting the keyboard to the computer tower. There is a unit that plugs into the tower that controls the signal for the mouse and the keyboard, both of which have batteries in them.
As for ergonomic keyboards, opinions on those vary. I tried the "standard" ergo keyboard from Microsoft and HATED it. It actually slowed me down. My sister and a former co-worker love them. I have seen some interesting keyboards that have the sides of the keypad standing up, so your wrist is in a handshake position (much more neutral for your arms). They're expensive, though, so I haven't tried them yet.
http://www.safetype.com/ I saw several people on here talk about the Safetype keyboard and loved it.
http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/ I also then read a review on this keyboard that spoke highly of it.
I think at some point I'm going to try the Kinesis Freestyle. That gives a lot more options in terms of wrist position, plus Kinesis also has the ergo mouse as well.
Microsoft 4000 split keyboard.
Does anyone use this keyboard? I just got one thinking it would help my hands from hurting, but I am having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the keyboard. Did anyone else have this problem? If so, did you catch on, or did you have to return it? I went from the plain keyboard to this, but It has slowed me down tremendously. I wonder if I should get an ergonomic keyboard without the split? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite
My Elite died on me (don't try to take them apart for cleaning). I tried the 4000 and hated it. I bought it in a pinch because stores don't sell the Elite anymore. You really had the hit the space bar pretty hard and I just did not care for the touch of it. I returned it. I finally found a store that sold the Elite and bought 2 of them, otherwise you have to buy them online.
