Do you feel that you have done the best job you can in raising your son? He sounds like he is doing really well in school? Why should it matter so much to you that he does not want to play that sport any longer? Remember this is his life. People do change all the time. Look on the good side....at least he wants to concentrate more on his academics....How Wonderful!!! More parents should be as lucky as you!
I have a nephew, now age 33, 6' 5" tall and left handed; was the BEST pitcher in baseball. He had many offers from the major leagues to sign up right out of high school to go into training. He could have had a full scholarship to FSU. But NO, he didn't want to do that.....he wanted to stay in our little town and marry his high school sweetheart, the only girl he had ever date in his life. So.....that is exactly what he did.....of course they waited until they were 23 to tie the knot. They have three beautiful girls, a brand new 5 bedroom, 3 bath home that they designed and he is already bringing in $260,000.00/year. May not be a lot to some but it sounds pretty good to me.
All I'm saying is have some trust and faith. Even though you may not show your heartbreak to your son, he knows how you feel, I'm sure he can sense it. Let him know you have confidence in him in making the right decision for himself.
