I just gave notice at my job and all I gave them was when my last day would be. SM
I don't think they even cared why I was quitting. I called the supervisor to tell her in person and she simple said "I need it in writing and when will your last day be". Personally, I like things quick and painless.
No one ever gave me 2 weeks notice when I was let go
so why do we owe anyone this courtesy?
But you gave tthem notice at 11 cents - sm
so if they want you to stay, you have to ask yourself, 'What's in it for ME?' And then as them for 12 cents.
I gave two weeks notice... but stopped doing their work FIRST
Since they refused to give me a raise after 7 years of loyal service to 3 doctors full-time, i gave me 2 weeks but didn't do their work in my 24-hour TAT window because I was SO p*ssed. I got it done "on my time" at that point. I have a hot head i can't help it... plus it was a huge slap in the face when not only they weren't giving me a raise, they expected my paychecks to decrease because they were mad they were paying for templates! we seriously were like a little family... that was three months ago and im STILL hurt about it...
You're so right - I gave my notice - 5 more days & Im back home!!
I worked at home 9 years - back in an office for a year -cannot WAIT to be back home again. Office politics and BS, silly little rules that make no sense, traffic, hours less in each day because you spend that time commuting, people who care if you have a $200 purse or not...when you work at home you can still have friends, but you get to choose who you spend your time with!
Early in my career I worked for a service in the office. I gave my notice after almost two years...
with them because I got a job with a hospital that paid better and had better benefits. I gave my notice and the office manager made my life heck for my remaining two weeks. He gave away my desk, my chair, my transcriber (we were still transcribing cassettes back then). I spent the next two weeks shuffled between workstations and using the crappiest equipment they had. He also refused to give me any help on my account. It was a huge family practice from which I would get at least seven 90 minute tapes a day from them. Before I gave my notice, I was the lead on the account and had three other people helping. When I gave my notice, he couldn't spare anyone to help me and I got several tapes behind. I kept telling him I was behind and he would just say do what you can.
Long story short, he tried to stiff me on my last paycheck because he said my account was way out of turnaround time and I had cost them money. He had told the owner of the service that I had never asked for help and that I purposefully held tapes back to screw them. I ended up taking them to small claims court to get my money.
Some people are just ugly people that take EVERYTHING personally. You can't win with people like that. They are unprofessional. I wouldn't worry about your boss' attitude. In a couple of weeks, he'll just be a memory.
Accepted a job with a new company, gave two weeks notice to my old company..
Old company, let me go before two weeks was up. New company, said they were having trouble getting me set up and my equipment ready, but they would pay me while I waited. It's been a month, still no check from new company even though I was told it was "in the mail." I have no income and am at a loss.
I have a signed offer letter from the new company, contracts, etc. I applied for unemployment, but old company is saying I quit and technically I am currently employed with the new company! New company is not returning calls or answering email.
What should I do!?!?!?!
I started sending my resume out today, but the process of getting a new job will take at least two weeks and I need money now to catch up on what I'm behind!
for what god gave her in beauty, the devil gave her in insanity.
she is one scary chick to be raising kids.
Knowing what I know now, NO, I would not become an MT. nm

It is just knowing what you
are typing as you go along, reading as you type. If you are using abbreviation expanders, make SURE that you have not typed a WRONG expansion. Good Luck!
Comes sometimes with just knowing the right people. sm
Many of these positions are not advertised, just referred.
Knowing English as well
In your post you said "I am knew" to the transcription world. It should be new. This is just what would keep you from passing a transcription test.
I would be interested in knowing this as well....
Not knowing your husband, so I'm
not sure if this will work. Place the clothes in the basket but DON'T wash them anymore. Clean the dishes but DON'T cook for him anymore (this also eliminates the need for paper plates). See if he notices....LOL.
Knowing what my mortgage is....sm
truly keeps me motivated....the mortgage is HUGE....*bites nails*
*lol*
I has been my experience in knowing other ICs--sm
that they usually try to find someone who will cover for their work load while they are gone. It is not fair to overload the other ICs who work there too and that would keep you from being overloaded yourself when you return. It may make your employer a little more amenable to you being gone, if they knew that there would still be someone there to do the work. just a thought.
Knowing what I have heard from others
including nurses, the field is wide open for the pay scale. If I had the chance to go either MTing or nursing, definitely choose nursing. The situation in transcription has been going down in pay and I doubt it will improve. I have met nurses who have their house notes paid, their vehicles paid, $$$$ because of physicians wanting someone in their office. To me this is a no-brainer. I do not think the 2 compare when it comes to the bottom line, money that is. The working at home is ok but my pay, for example, has fell in the 80s from the high $50,000 to maybe the medium 20s now. If younger and had the chance, I would say nursing is a wonderful opportunity.
I'm interested in knowing how much
one should make after 19 years? I ALWAYS short-change myself and would love to know how to know when it is okay to push for more and when it doesn't matter because they won't go any higher. A couple of weeks ago, for example, somebody said Diskriter offered them nearly 10 cpl, but I had 18 years of experience when I interviewed with them last year, and they said 8 cpl was as high as they would go. If I had said, no thanks, I have to have more per line, would they have gone higher? Somebody explain to me how to negotiate... I would hate for my paycheck to be 20% less because I'm not savvy enough in this regard.
Knowing the truth....
Anyone who has been in this industry doing MT for more than 30 years and has survived knows the score. We feel grateful for our skills and we are humbled by the years of dedication it took to crack any nut thrown our way. People in the industry know who we are and most of us just prefer to do straight transcription because we know what we are doing and feel comfortable.
Also, we love the challenge of being able to decipher a really difficult report and make that doctor happy especially the ESL.
From my point of view, there are just to many MTs who go to QA hoping to learn something but the learning is in the transcribing. Just reading the reports is not going to give you that edge. You need to develop the "ear" and a knowledge of the specialties that only true dedication brings to the forefront.
We're living in a time when people want to make easy money without really having any experience or real knowledge. They just feel if they go to that good school, they will be all set and ready to make big bucks. It's that mentality of entitlement minus the years of hard work and dedication that is ruining this country. Sadly, it seems the more you know and the harder you work, the less you make.
Call it moral degredation.
thanks...just knowing there are others, same age bracket, skills, etc...does help...
like you, I LOVE this job, and actually chose it - not the other way around. Fortunately, it has not cost me anything, really, like the other poster mentioned; but I too am scared.
It is always upsetting when you life changes because of things out of your control...at our age, we are from the times when people had one job until they retired. I know that is history, but man, this way is ridiculous. Flying from job to job, no continuity, no structure. What good can come of this anyway.
like the other poster mentioned, who cares about us anyway, really. the rich only care about getting richer, and that crap about giving the tax cuts to the rich and they will 'share it' - what a bunch of fools we have been.
thanks for sharing!
ROFLMAO - you're better off not knowing!

I am interested in knowing more about wireless
I am in the very same situation as the first poster, although I do have a reliable ISP and connect at 50+ Kbps all the time.
I know nothing about wireless and am wondering if it would be advantageous for me. Please keep in mind, I not the most computer literate person. :D Could you explain it to me in further detail? If you would like, please feel free to send me an E-mail.
Thanks so very much.
Sandi
kids have no business even knowing about this!!
nm
You're right, it doesn't, but it does help already knowing
the basics of medical terminology and such.
Hard to say without knowing your interests.
Try to find a site that helps you determine a good fit for your likes and skills. You may also want to consider some community college course(s) in subjects of interest to you to help determine where you want to go. Look at this as an opportunity to try something completely different if you're so inclined.
I'm interested in knowing the brand - I'm looking a new chair. Thanks! nm

Without knowing the details of your finanacial situation . . .
it's impossible to know. If you have good credit 18 points shouldn't be hard to do. Didn't he have any other suggestions? One thing you can do is, if you have a good banking relationship, get a small signature loan from that bank and pay it back in 30 days. That will raise your score, but ONLY if the bank doesn't pull a credit report, since that takes off a few points. Get a $500 or $1000 loan, let it sit in your account, and then pay it back. It will only cost a month's interest and should raise your score enough.
I would be interested in knowing if they have young children too?
x
They might not, but I would still get satisfaction knowing I didn't keep quiet about it. sm
And you know AHDI probably has the attitude of "well nobody has ever come to us telling us we're not working for them," or some such thing.
Sort of like passing your driving test and knowing. . .
That you'll never have to take it again!
Well, at least until you're 80.
someone gave me a tip...
to make it larger, maybe it will help make it smaller: Ctrl and scroll on mouse to adjust - any help?
you gave me an idea about E-bay...sm
I'll go check it out, but is it easy to sign up to sell something? What kind of account(s) do you have to have (Pay Pal, or will they send you a check?). Let us broke MTs know.
Congrats on the saved backside! We've all been there; in fact, I'm right there with ya!
Thanks for the E-bay suggestion!
MedQuist gave what they can
I also am in agreement with what Medquist did was great!
It doesn't matter what we think or feel, it is what the people receiving that money feel, and they are grateful! That is a lot of money in anyones eyes. Common sense should tell you that you only give what you can and if 20,000 is what MedQuist could give then that is not worth picking apart.
The points being brought up about how MedQuist just spent millions on legal fees should say something right there, they still gave didn't they? YES SIR!
No gripes here for the amount that MedQuist gave:)
VR would be better if they gave MTs the machine and
So the machine only has to get used to our sweet little voices instead of these speed demons and speech impedimentalists.
I gave up proofreading...
when it became clear that I had to move fast to produce reports in bulk in order to make my production requirement as well as a decent hourly wage ($20 to $25 which I feel is fair for this type of work). My feeling is that if that MTSOs wanted error free reports they would pay by the hour and not by production. Most places which say they want 98% accuracy get this figure from a random sample of reports sent to QA. If you were falling below this consistently, and I am talking gross mistakes in the reports, hopefully the service would hear it from the dictator, who has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring his/her work is accurate.
I don't believe that. God also gave us free will. nm

It all hangs on what you DO with what God gave you.
I gave the tip about using control+K
for command entries.
I purchased ShortHand and it is in the instruction manual that came with it.
Thanks to all that gave info:)
j
I gave them about 6 weeks.....
I kept thinking it would get better and after about 6 weeks when it was getting worse I just quit.
I really like the ideas you gave here
I, for one, am about to freeze my tush off this morning but I just came into my room to check email and such before any work today. The one I like the most, I think, is about the lap throw. I have seen the electric blankets but am not really sure about this. Is this a Wal-Mart item also? As I want to see any outside activity, sit in front of a really big window with the shutters open so that let in some of the cold, keep space heater going at my feet because like you, want to keep costs down in the rest of the home. Only 1 here most days and do not need to heat up this great big place. Thanks for the hints.
I just gave up IC for employee sm
My kids grew up, I paid off my house and I don't have enough expenses personally to itemize. What happened? I got screwed! Last year my taxes were $11000. I am expecting about the same this year.
What happened is that that is such a significant part of what I make that I was financially strapped. I have literally been saving for my taxes FOREVER to mount this kind of money up to pay them and it is the same every year. No expenses much, can't make less income because I can't eat, can't make more because well, I type enough!
I made excellent money last year. All my friends made 1/3 to 1/2 of my income for 2007. They all got newer cars. They all had some sort of a vacation. They all could go out to dinner once in a while. My vehicle is 15+ years old, but runs. I have not had a vacation in 10 yrs and I can't afford to eat in, let alone eat out. I buy my clothes off the Walmart $3 rack because that is the only way I can afford it.
For having no mortgage or rent, being VERY frugal and careful...I have no money and no life. I will never be an IC again.
Gave me the giggles!!! LOL!!!
LOL...wicked giggles...kinda makes me wonder if the above MT can bring themselves to type the terms for private parts...or are they offensive also? One could wonder...hmmm...Please forgive me, I truly mean no offense, I just could not resist. I have a nice set of horns to counter your halo.
On a professional note, I too believe that if it is stated, it should be type. Those types of direct quotes help indicate a patient's character and/or state of mind. They are a very important part of the medical record and should never be left out unless specifically asked by the client!
People...please do not take offense, I have a truly wicked sense of humor is all!!! LOL.
Probably. I am an IC and my MTSO gave
me a copy since that is what they use. I used to use the counter in MS Word before that.
I don’t think she gave the impression
of working for a MTSO. I personally thought the amount she was saying was that she did have her own accts. The question was how much you make, not whether you were your own boss or working for others.
I dont know what gave you such a bad attitude, but i am sorry for
you. Maybe you could talk to someone about it. You seem very angry. :(
I can't believe James just gave up and walked off.
Doesn't it make you wonder what he's thinking???
Still rooting for Kaysar. He just got back, he must figure he needs HOH.
OMG. You just gave me an awesome idea!! (sm)
My schedule/routine is EXACTLY like your husband's, or it was until my son's girlfriend started "living" here. Long story, but it's ending soon as she is returning to college in a week.
It totally threw me off because she sleeps on the couch (they are both over 21, but "house rules") which is where I used to sleep, so now I have to sleep in my office/bedroom (but I hate to blank where I eat LOL). Also, much more activity because they roam about the house during the day (he works evening shifts) and I am constantly hearing doors close.
Which brings me to the brilliant idea I have thanks to your post!! I am going to get EAR PLUGS or something similar. Even though she'll only be here for another week or so, I'm sure she'll visit on occasion... but I definitely need SOMETHING to get me through the next week!
thank you thank you thank you!
Hmmm, you signed nothing. Maybe they gave you this one
:)
DOG...yes, he gave about 1-1/2 hr presentation. Interesting.
nm
Whoops! DH gave DD the car (sorry for the confusion)!
What happened was that I thought a second hand car was fine and she should pay for it like I did in high school but he said, "Are you kidding? You bought your own car in high school in 1975 when it cost a couple hundred bucks. If she bought her own car now she'd need a loan for the friggin' thing. It's just not possible anymore for kids to buy anything like that from a minimum wage job at the Dairy Queen, plus if by some act of God she was able to it would be a piece of junk and unsafe."
