to get a job. Most employers, other than the big nationals, probably have no idea what MT certification means. Also, AAMT requires 2 years of acute-care experience before you can take the test. It's not something you take right out of school. They are beta testing a "registered MT" "credential" right now, but it's essentially meaningless.
Don't worry about certification until you've been working for awhile. If you get a job with an employer that actually pays a premium for having the CMT (very few do), then you can think about doing it because there would be an actual incentive to do it. For the present, it won't really be of any benefit to you.
