Sadly, nothing gets cig smell out of anything. It
always sneaks back. I have been burned 3 times out of 4 on E-Bay with MT stuff. I am a huge buyer and seller, and its the only area I've not been happy with, so I'd rather buy new now than risk it. Hopefully it will work. One thing I have tried is sealing whatever it is up in a bag for as long as possible, or as frequently as possible, with a Outdoor Fresh Scent Bounce or two in the sealed bag with the item. Over time the Bounces absorb some of the cig smell. But it would be a hassle undoing a C-phone every day and bagging it. Sorry - that smell makes me sick, too, and I used to smoke! Good luck.

No matter what is posted, if it's positive in nature, at least one poster has to come along and try to rain all over that person's parade. This site could be so wonderful and a great tool IF everyone just showed one iota of respect for one another, some common decency, without resorting to name calling, personal insults, etc. I'm a positive person as well and am very content with my career and my personal life. I never let this site bring me down, but I do find myself feeling very sorry for the posters on here who obviously go out of there way to antagonize and insult other posters. It's clear that something vital is missing from their lives if snarking at other posters makes them feel validated.

and went totally electronic. I can find surgical stuff so much faster online rather than going through the books. I'm more confident and faster doing OPS now than ever before since I don't leaf through the books, just search online, and of course I double check everything. I have the electronic drug reference but rarely use it since my internet is open all day long.

Believe me, I felt the SAME exact way as you back when I was fooled by D&L. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for over a month, and actually believed payment would be sent to me. I didn't talk badly about them, well not until PA Dept of Labor decided there was nothing they could do for me as an IC. Here it is, 1 year later, and I still haven't been paid...either have 20+ others who were all just suddenly *let go.*
The only loyalty you should ever have in this business is to yourself, your pocket and to a fellow struggling MT. Don't be scared to let others know the name of a company to avoid.
Good luck dealing with PA courts/magistrates/Dept of Labor, etc. I hope you get your pay.

"Freedom of Speech" guarantees that on public property you, as an individual, may speak out against the government without fear of retaliation for it.
It doesn't mean you can say anything you want about any person or entity and be covered.

I was responding to the person who wrote *I just started with a company, and I honestly don't think I will EVER be able to make the line count .... 11,000.* That's what I meant by the line count being required.
As problematic as the company is, though, I don't think they offshore.

I can't speak for all of them, but my experience was that while they help in terms of lowering interest, you are still going to be stuck for years and years because that is the name of the game with credit card sharks...
The politicians have made it even easier for the cc companies to "enslave"
people by making is really really hard to declare bankruptcy - and there are many legitimate reasons for filing bankrupt. NOtice how minimum payments went up right after that law passed? It's no accident.
You can usually tell which companies are professional and which aren't... but pay close attention to the fees you are paying them to cut your interest... They get a kickback from the credit card companies on top of that fee - make sure it's not out of bounds. Good luck (free advise: cut up all cards except for one!).
I have mixed feelings.
My knee-jerk reaction is to boycott any company offshoring. It feels like a personal insult at times, toward American workers. This is a reaction, though.
My response (using the brain, not the heart) tells me that globalization of this and every other industry is here. It is not going away. I want the U.S. to be able to trade with other companies; I don't think it is in this country's best interest to be withdrawn from the world. While I would like to take it personally, from an intellectual perspective this was going to happen one way or another. The MT job as it is today would eventually be outdated by advancements in technology. So it is not like offshoring alone has caused these changes. All industries evolve. It is what allows us to have better products, cheaper prices, and more affordable living choices. This field is no different. This is a response.
I do not plan to martyr myself in vain for something that is following its natural path of progression. Taking such an obstinant position against change would be the greatest catalyst to my financial demise -- the world will go on changing, so I had better learn to change, adapt, and evolve with it!

Hey ladies, I am a midwife and an MT. However, the money comes from MT sadly. sm
I do midwifery on the side as i love it but i have to keep my 2 MT jobs to keep the bills flowing. I am an LM, CPM so i do not do hospital deliveries. I do homebirth/ birth center deliveries so the pay is less than CNMs would make but a lot of the CNMs these days do all the crap work from the MDs. Best thing with MT is it works around my MW schedule. Love it!! I average about 20-30K on midwifery delivering about 15-20 babies a year. I personally know one that delivers 3-4 a month and averages about 75K but i choose not to be that busy with midwifery til my kids get older as i still need family time. I don't see where to put email in here but if anyone wants info from me, would be happy to share.

Mixed on the female dictators
I have some I like and some I don't. I have noticed that I have trouble hearing certain female voice tones even if they are speaking relatively plainly.
I have one who will totally leave words out and replace them with a grunting noise or no word at all. She does this consistently, and I can't help wonder what she is thinking. It almost seems like a habit type of thing. I wonder if she does it during normal conversations. Lol :)

The above poster is right. Sadly, I've been on Escription for four years and my line counts
were going down. Apparently, the hospital decided we were being overpaid so they manipulated the way were paid i.e. footers, headers etc. They could change it to whatever they wanted and the MTSO did nothing as they wanted to keep the contract. So we had to suck up and take the reduction, along with the fact that all of our work was/is being sent to India so it's slim pickens most days unless you want the crappy accounts. I would ask a lot of questions, but as a whole, Escription accounts and the companies who have it rarely like to pay a decent livable cpl. JMO

My 21-YO daughter has type 2 DM, but it is very well controlled by diet alone. She just had some lab tests done (blood and urine), and they called to let us know her urine microalbumin was slightly elevated. However, she was on her period when they did the urine test, and she said there was definitely blood mixed in with her urine because of this. Does anyone know if this would affect the microalbumin result? They want her to start taking a small dose of lisinopril, but she doesn't want to and wants to wait 6 months for the next test. Her hemoglobin A1c and other values were "perfect" according to the nurse who called, but we are waiting for the actual results to come via mail.

Bonuses are not guaranteed. They are supposed to be based on certain criteria, example, if the company makes money, if your performance meets the criteria, etc. It is the deafening silence that speaks so loudly.

Last year we got 50.00 gift cards to Target or Amazon and I sent a group gift to the office staff from Hershey's - it was a computer monitor made out of chocolate which I personalized.
X-Mas Bonuses
We're having a luncheon next week at the office. They have secret santas and we're getting $300 bonuses. This is the first time in 3 years that I've gotten anything. When I was an IC I didn't get a card or a Merry Christmas.
Bonuses at MDI Florida?
I have read that MDI Florida gives bonuses for employees that go the extra mile. I have been there over two years and work hard but have not seen a bonus yet. Do they given them out often or at all? They forgot us for transcription week and do not so anything for birthdays so it would be nice to get something out of it all.

I will be canned, I suppose, for not meeting quota. From what I gather on this board, everyone with MQ has a different contract. I am new...you have probably been with them for awhile. I HAVE NO BONUSES WHATSOEVER FOR ANYTHING, NO MATTER IF MY QA SCORE IS 100% (IT WAS 98%). You probably have an older, better contract. Most of us are not whining, we are AFRAID. I actually ENJOY working for MQ (look out, I am ducking as I speak), and would like very much to stay, improve my skills and speed AND make more money. And what the heck is this about not more than a certain percentage of reports going to QA? How ridiculous is THAT? (Sorry for being out of the loop, but I do not receive any communication from MQ whatsoever and only hear these things on this board.) If they make a requirement of only a certain percentage of reports going to QA then the MTs are going to be forced to GUESS what the doctor said when he is coughing, slamming the door, phone ringing, TAPE SKIPPING, cut himself off, unintelligible foreign dictator, obviously said the wrong word by mistake, etc. These things I always send to QA. They are the experts and they should decide whether to leave a blank or risk filling it in, not me. If I was so experienced as to be sure what to do in all of these scenarios, I would be QA!!!!!!!!

MQ Bonuses ... How it works for me
As long as I have produced a total of 1600 lines on weekend days (however I choose to do it) and have 98% QA or better, I qualify for bonuses once I reach 6001 lines in a payperiod. Bonuses go up to an extra 2 cents per line. They are paid on the bi-monthly check!

No, I won't be happy about it if the bonuses are cut out. It's not the only thing keeping me with MQ though.
I do more work for MQ than for Spheris because MQ pays me more. Spheris doesn't pay quarterly bonuses and their incentive is limited to 1.5 cpl while I can get 2 cpl at MQ.
Losing the qrtly bonuses will not be enough for me to quit MQ.

You're very lucky. Do it while it lasts. Once worked for a company that always did that and out of the blue they changed and went on a hiring spree and then not enough work. Would rather work for one like yours.

Those production bonuses
have always seemed pie in the sky, to me. They're offered so you bust your butt trying to get there, but why would a company want you to earn that consistently? Stands to reason it would be cheaper for a company to pay two part-time, no-benefit people for 175 lines per hour each than one person for 350 lines per hour plus bonus. Or am I just way too suspicious?
