You could try something like this...

First, put together all your "goods" in sections and price them out based on a per-piece basis. Secondly, don't just take in the templates (on any format or paper copy) and leave it with them. Third, make it a big deal that you have to turn this stuff over--make a formal appointment with someone (manager?) to block some time out so you can "go through it" with them, but let them know ahead of time that you're going to bill it out as though you were transcribing, at your hour rate of I think $30 is fair. I wouldn't try to go for a whopper lump sum of $1,000. You might get laughed at and wind up with nothing. You can only get the price on the "templates" themselves, pricing them for each setup as the product you created. Truthfully, I don't think you can do better in this case than to kind of get your money for the time, maybe a couple three hours or so, because that's just the way this industry works. Your time spent on the templates did benefit the doctors, but ultimately they were your tools to use for speeding up the work. After that, especially if you haven't given them their "final" invoice, just make this one like a "supplementary" invoice and get paid for your time. Just my few thoughts. Best of luck to you. I'm not sure anymore if things happen for a reason, probably just a time for you to expand your thinking and go look for something else. This will be one of those that you'll probably not have it so good againk, but who knows. And.... don't be so sure that they will be okay with their new hot system. You may still get a phone call because it's just not working like they thought it would. Bob Dylan was right, "The Times They Are A-Changin..." Hope this post makes sense, didn't exactly proof it. Peace.
