You can still use WP 5.1 on Win XP computers. Just go to the command prompt and install it. nm

Can Ii install the CD on both of my computers? nm
n
Yes, you just need to get to the true DOS prompt
x
Thank you very much for prompt reply.
The stress is enormous. This job is kicking my butt.
Thank you for your prompt answer sm
I am looking this up now. Unfortunately, these don't work when they are red or green. Oh dear, I am such an IT dunce!
Never had this happen either. Email the SH people. They're very prompt with help. Good
s
The SH people have always been helpful and prompt with instructions. Ask them if your copy is legit.

What is the key command to
I saw it awhile back but can't find it now.
TY here, too. Would I be able to disable that w/ just a key command?

the command to slow down
.
In Extext, is there a keyboard command
to slow down or speed up dictation? I'm trying to retrain myself to keep hands on keyboard, but I keep having to slow down and speed up different dictators. I have the little control open on my desktop, but it seems to require the mouse to change the speed. Is that right?
You have to create it with the bold command

Any1 know how to run the spellcheck command in WP 5.1?
TIA :-)
I would contact your highest in command. A medical
record is a legal document and could potentially contain info that would contribute to a life/death situation. If I were in a position of authority she would be gone yesterday.
Goodness, if you didn't know about the command feature, you really need to
spend some time on the Productivity Talk board for tons of ideas.
You need to use the command feature of IT when you make your entry sm
Copy and insert your text into a new IT entry. Now go back thru the entry and each time you want a field to be placed, you have to hit the "command" button on the bottom left of the window. Then hit CTRL+F9 to create a world field (this will make the little bracket thingies when it spits out in Word). When you're all done, hit OK and there you go!
I agree we should have a command of the English language...sm
I do. This is from the American Heritage Book of English usage in regard to collective nouns. You see, I also have a degree in English and also taught. I do know the rules for collective nouns.
"Some nouns refer to a group but are singular in form. These nouns are called collective nouns. In American usage, a collective noun takes a singular verb when it refers to the collection considered as a whole."
Volume Setting Command for Transnet/ExText
Anyone there who knows how to "permanently" set the volume for Transnet/ExText speech? I know to double-click on the volume icon to raise the volume for "Each Report", but not how to do it "permanently". I did it once by accident, but with recent upgrades, it wiped it out again. Anyone? Thanks!
Last time I checked, even MTs use the English language and we should have a command
of that language and that includes all the rules and regs taught from gradeschool on up. Now, it's totally up to you if you choose to be an AHDI robot. I acknowledge that a lot of MTSOs use the BOS as their guideline and if you work for those MTSOs, then you are obligated to follow "their" rules if you want your paycheck, but that does not mean that the rule book is correct. Quite simply, it is not. A group of retired MTs got together, had a meeting, and decided to make up a set of rules. Then they had a really fantastic marketing team that set out to market those rules as the end-all, be-all of medical transcription. They definitely found a willing audience for the crap they were peddling and they capitalized on it. I guess that's the American dream -- making a bundle of money of a bunch of suckers willing to pay, no questions asked.
I, however, choose to buck the system. I'm a noncomformist, I guess. I earned my bachelor's in English before I decided to become an MT. I believe it's important to be able to express oneself articulately and intelligently using the written word. I dislike what texting, email, and chat rooms have done to the English language (witness above post "wannbe MT ur opinions..."!!!!!).
Oh well, that's just me. I work for a hospital that could care less about the AHDI and its BOS. In my spare time, I wage my anti-BOS and anti-AHDI campaign in the hopes that MTs will wise up and MTSOs will too.
Set up your tabs first - then use the hanging indent command Ctrl+T
xx
Just create a command entry and use a short form that's fast to type. sm
This will bypass the Extext command. Make sure you put the trailing underscore at the end of your entry so you won't get an extra space from your marker key. Your entry will look like this:
{command}{Alt.}_
Any Stedman SmartType users? Pros & Cons? Will it retain bold formatting without using DOS command
DOS commands like ShortHand does?
won't install
Keeps looking for something on a CD (which it didn't come on). Also, a file called scan.msi (installation file), which is not on the system.
Help?
Have any of you been able to install
nm
Yes, usually you can install on up to 3
computers. Even if someone else has registered you should be able to install it, just probably will not get support. I never register any of my software in case I want to sell it/give it away. So far I've never needed support that their website didn't provide.
you should be able to install it...
it opens as an Adobe Acrobat file. Do you have Adobe on your computer? If not, you can download it, for free, at their site.
When you put the CD into your drive, you should see the BOS folder and one of the files says "Adobe Acrobat Installer". Click on that and it will start the install for you.
BOS install
I installed mine under Program Files and made a shortcut to my desktop but it may be easier for you to just install it on your desktop since that is probably where you will be using it from most often. You can always change it later if you want (when you are not so worn out ).
For me the book takes sooo much time to try to find anything but with the CD installed, you can search the whole BOS and it will find all the instances of what you are looking for.
I don't remember anything about it asking for a language. Why not choose English?
Good luck! Email or post if you have ?s.
Yes, it is possible to install...
do a search for * install * on this board - right above your message - and you will see instructions as this has been posted before.
Did you install
the software on the laptop, or did the company your work for install it on your laptop? Thank you.
Thank you. Did not want to install
and then have their computer jam.
Bytescribe 3x install
We've been using Bytescribe for years and are happy with the product. We recently added a new customer, so I purchased a DocShuttle Dictator and also found out, upon receiving it, that there was a 3-times install license. I suppose they have been experiencing, or think they have experienced piracy.
What I did not read in this thread is that you can, for about 10 or 20 dollars more, purchase a version of all this software that has a dongle (thing you plug into the USB port) so that you can install it as many times as you want. The software checks for this device and does not run unless it is there.
I think that Bytescribe could have made this clear to their customers and on the web site. Even though I am technical, this passed me by about why there was a dongle and no-dongle version. It didn't clearly state what the dongle did and why one would purchase it...until I called and asked after my purchase.
I would also suggest to everyone that the 3x install may not be part of prior licenses of the software, so I would guess that a new policy by Bytescribe does not affect software that came out before this policy and licensing arrangement. I've never bothered to check it out.
Overall, I think that Bytescribe is a great company. It is likely a small company like many of ours and cannot handle large numbers of inquiries with many variations that exist all the time. They've been very friendly to us and very responsive on all support requests. The only thing I wish they would do is add more features for more complex business interactions with multiple customers and multiple contract transcribers. The transcription business is getting more complex, especially with HIPAA and large distributed medical offices.
Really have no clue, but did you install the new RAM - sm
in the first slot? The larger memory strip has to go in the first slot, and the smaller RAM/DIMM whatever you have goes in the next slot. Is that possibly the problem?
Usually only one install per OS. Call
p
Either. Run will install it on your computer,
Save will put the program on your hard drive and you will have to find it and install the program from there.
Once installed, use the Load button to get the files to play in Express Scribe.
Do you need to BUY Word and install it?? nm

cannot install Winscribe
Has anyone else had trouble installing Winscribe?
When I try to install I get the install prompt and then a progress bar, but no progress is made...I can get it installed on other PCs, but not the one I need to work on. MTSO is no help and I am out of suggestions...I have rebooted, changed web browsers, checked popups, checked security settings, checked firewall settings...I'm at a loss.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!!
How to install a program:
Download it and save it to the desktop.
Click on icon on the desktop (setup) to install it.
Follow instructions.
I can't install mine...??? I have to keep the CD in the drive
and click on My Computer and then click on the CD drive and then click on BOS2 to open. Then I just keep it minimized. I also like it much better than the book because of the search feature!
Stedman's spellchecker. Can I install this on....
two different computers? I have a desktop and a laptop and I would like it on both but am unsure if I would be able to download it on both. May be a silly question but I am computer challenged :) . Thanks
I agree. It was very easy to install.
Mine even has pictures on it to show where to plug everything in. :)
They are very easy to install, but, speaking SM
as a fellow illiterate, is there anyone who can help you? I mean, they don't even have to know a lot about computers either, but maybe you would feel better, but, honestly, it is quite easy.
You can buy them online and I imagine they are in stores too. Some even have three ports.
Can you install Stedman's Spellcheck on both
I have never used Stedman's Spellchecker before (just Dorland's) and am wondering if it is possible to buy it and install it on both MS Word and Word Perfect.
Thanks!!!!
What brand? Does it have software you need to install?
Does it have special keys you need to program? Wireless? You may not have done a complete setup.
Can I install Windows XP on PC with Vista??
Using the old backup disks from my crashed computer?
I need to get this new laptop able to function so I can get a PT job and all seem to want XP...
Install Shorthand on the other computer, then ... sm
find the ShortHand folder in Windows Explorer on the first computer and copy your dictionaries ending with .spf and paste them in the Shorthand folder on the second computer.
You need to watch how many times you install the software
If you are just unplugging your foot pedal, you will have no problem...or did you mean something else?
We didn't install ours, came with the house, but I learned...
something today... If it's bitter cold outside and your woodstove is keeping your house warm, the water in your pipes (if you have steam heat) can freeze anyway because the thermostat never calls for heat and the water sits and can freeze in the pipes that are close to outside walls. Other than that danger, it's great. It never got over 15 today and our house was a gorgeous 75 degrees. You have to keep an iron kettle full of water on top so it will boil and put some moisture back into the air. Some people are bothered by wood stoves, but fortunately we are not. Also, I would get a stove with a blower on it (we do) to help push the hot air out into the room.
I'll bite. You did install on your new computer,
right? Because that alone is a monster problem....
Usually one desktop install and one laptop per license. nm
x
Install Instant Text on the new computer, sm
then simply copy your glossaries (glo files) from the Instant Text Glossary folder on the old computer to the same place on the new computer. You could even e-mail them to yourself and transfer that way.
You must install from the CD. Call IT tech support
and they can send you a new CD. The only files you can transfer are your glossaries.
I just found out you can only install Bytescribe Docshuttle 3 times!
I had no idea of this and apparently this is in the fine print of the license agreement (shame on me for not reading it!) So I have DocShuttle Client at $99 and DocShuttle Admin at $299. I have to reformat my hard drive this weekend so I will be on my third and last install. I really do not want to have to purchase this all over again because that is a huge chunk of change.
Does anyone know of any other software that I might be able to use when the time comes? I want to start my research early because I can't get myself into a bind if you know what I mean.
Thanks!
