at Wal-Mart for 99 cents. They worked great for me. I got them on a lark just to see how the quality was and was very pleasantly suprised.

ear buds
I wouldn't use anything other than ear buds. I have a big pair of noist-canceling earphones, but I use them only in an emergency - or when I am practicing the electric piano at 2 a.m. and don't want to disturb everybody. I can't stand anything heavy hanging in my ears, and I really don't like anything up over my head, either. I think the ear buds are great. I used to pay a fortune for them from Lanier years ago; now I buy cheap ones wherever I can get them. I also have an extension in case the ones I buy have a short cord.
Ear buds for me! nm

You are screwing up my ear buds...
because when I read these very profound posts of yours, I smile too broadly, makes my external auditory canals expand or something because my ear buds fall out in my lap.
GASP! I read MTStars while working! Gotta do something to break the monotony.
Hey, put the booby cam on the pig's boobies. Boobs are boobs and guys don't care what they are attached to, at least those guys that look at booby cams.
I have been using $10 ear buds from Target for 8 years. sm
I know a lot of people think I'm nuts, but they have worked absolutely fine for me for all these years. They don't last forever, probably 4 months per pair, but a lot of times I'll find them for 2 pair/$10. I'm not even loyal to one brand, but my current pair are Koss.
Maxell Tapes
Just thought you would find this of interest. I know we don't use tapes too much, but all these years of trying to fix broken tapes - I contacted Maxell about a tape that blew off the spool on side B. They guarantee their tapes, just mail back to them at a N.J. address - link below - via regular mail from NV to N.J., and it was returned within 3 days - not only do they fix it for free - but send it back via Federal Express, at their expense + give you a free tape. Wow! Joyce

Maxell tapes
Just FYI - if they break, Maxell will repair, send back via FedEx and give you a new tape - beats Dr. having to redictate, if you are still working with tapes. Joyce
Maxell tapes
I did a quick Google search yesterday and came up with a review on Amazon for this particular brand of tapes, where someone wrote that the tapes becamed detached from the spool and wound up inside the casing and were unusable. It must be the brand. I guess we will try another brand for now, and hopefully this will be a push in the digital direction.
I use Maxell NC-II , cost about $30 - sm
Just bought myself 2 pair at buy.com for $30 each --retail is $50. The description is "Maxell HP-NCII Full-size Noise Canceling Headphones". Very comfortable and fit totally over the ear, not tight but fit nicely so you don't feel like your brain will come out of your ears, noise-canceling if you want that (I don't use it). I bought them at Wal-Mart a couple years ago; checked their website though and it does not look like they carry them anymore. Mine are starting to act up (right speaker cutting out sometimes) so I did a search on google, found them at a good price and bought 2 of them, so I should be set for another 5 or 6 years with any luck.
I use Maxell NC-II, about $36 - great for shutting out - sm
the noise around me when everyone is home as they cover the whole ear. Much better than my previous $135 pair of noise-cancelling ones I had (forget the brand) that only lasted a year before they shorted out.
Maxell noise cancelling on sale
at Walgreens this week for $20. I grabbed some this morning when I was there for a completely unrelated errand. I hear they don't last forever, but at $15 off of the regular price I figured I would try them. They squish my ears but are working out OK so far.
Thanks for the heads up on the cellulitis. The koss plug phones are made of earplug material and seem to me that they could harbor nastiness that could lead to an infection.
Thanks for the answers, everyone! I got a cheapie Maxell pair. I had
