You are right - it's not what it used to be

but it is certainly easier to work from your home now than it was say 10 years ago.  Digital transcription and computers have come a long, long way.  I am loving MT and if anyone asks, I say go for it!  Most people don't even know what transcribing means.  They have no idea what we do.  It is a learned skill.  I always suggest working on-site if possible though before venturing out on your own at home.  My SIL spent 4 years at a community college thinking she was gonna "make it big" in this industry, and now she hates it, works on-site just importing/exporting reports for a local hospital.  It's a shame that money was wasted.  I tried to forewarn her, but also encouraged her.  I guess she found out pretty quickly that it's not all that it's cracked up to be unless you've done it for years and years.
