well wake up and smell the coffee...
Ever since managed care came into being here, the doctors have been moaning and groaning...and less and less folks are actually entering the medical field today.....becauise nobody is earning the money they were 15-20 plus years ago.....There is a huge shortage of nurses also in this country - it's not profitable enough for anyone today...not like it used to be prior to managed care.....
I have been treated overseas and it IS better.....and I recently read an article that folks here, the elderly, are now relocating to India for long-term care at home....it's nearly free over there....if I ever find that article, I will repost here.....the couple the article was about are in their 80s and they get all their rxs, aides in the home (home health care), and treatment for a miniscule amount compared to here......the article showed pictures too.....all nice and clean and very efficient looking. Plus, an added benefit is they are just more respectful of the elderly overseas.....in general and everywhere.....whether it be Europe or Asia.....while here, all they seem to be interested in in this country is YOUTH - a youth-oriented society it has been for a couple of generations now.
You *think* we have the best......but it might not always be as it seems and think of *down the road* - while less folks are entering the field(s) here - you'll find there will be less and less *the best*.....
Open your eyes, wake up and smell the coffee

Wake up and smell the roses and not
alcohol breath - ewwww
Okay..... what KIND of coffee??
I think Duncan Donuts is the BEST!! :o) Although I buy their ground coffee and brew it myself...... Much cheaper that way.
Coffee just always smells so darn good, doesn't it? I drink 3 cups of coffee... sm
in the morning (used to be 4) w/Nutrasweet, a little regular powdered creamer and a little liquid French Vanilla creamer (yes, I do like it sweet!) If I'm really sleepy and need the boost, I'll have another cup or two.
Then I immediately start drinking diet Dr. Pepper, and not the caffeine-free kind. Love it. I drink diet Dr. Pepper throughout the day and night, about 6 cans a day (it used to be diet Coke). I've joked with my friends and family that it might be time for them to hold an intervention for me with the Dr. P.
I do sometimes worry about the mass quantity of Nutrasweet I consume each day. Anybody else?
POTS of coffee? Wow...I have 2-3 cups of half-caff coffee with just milk each day. Any more and I
s
The great southern coffee... Community Coffee...
People who grew up with it and have moved have it sent to them now or stock up when they visit Louisiana.
WOW! I'd tell my DH, but I'd have to go wake him up
Every day that I wake up...
and he's not here is ultimately a good day. I have decided this is all about prospective. I cried a bit last night, but couldn't define exactly why. I've been going about the house taking down reminders. My children now after what three days are only mentioning him in casual conversation. My 4-year-old says to me in private that he was mean and he is not coming back. I don't know how much of that she actually registers. I'm just noticing small things. I can type faster. I haven't had to yell. I smile at myself in the mirror. I'm remembering who I was intended to be. We're listening to music again. The TV was only on yesterday for about an hour total, not 14 hours. That alone is stunning. I am starting to believe that I can actually do this. I have my mom coming up this morning to help me look for a place to live. I have a self-imposed 30 days to find a place. My only significant problem is that he made a 1-year committment to the phone company/satellite provider. If anyone has a suggestion for how I can get out of that without paying an enormous fee, please offer. It is so cathardic speaking to you all. I'm already healing. Keep praying for me. Thank you, Jodi
She may want to go to the wake afterwards, if you have one.

Me too. Thank HIM before bed and when I wake up! nm

Does anyone ever wake up one day
Just not wanting to deal with the constant worry of feast or famine. Companies which treat the MT as a big zero if he/she does their job well, although when needed extra, the MT is made to feel guilty if they do not do 10,000 percent in spite of the fact they are previously treated like zero. Sometimes the paycheck although small, does not seem worth it compared to the quality or lack of quality of life.
No, I am not depressed. I think this MT has finally wished for some time off to go outside, see the clouds, smell the fresh air, and consider the life passing by. As well, this MT would like to remember what it was like to have the security of a job which paid halfway decently, actually a boss who showed just a tiny bit of appreciation once in a while for doing a difficult job well, and the days when a person did not flinch when looking at the computer wondering what the day would bring. Silence, more silence, or an even smaller paycheck.
I tell you, if I were to take 2 weeks off, nobody in my household would even notice the difference in budget, the pay has gotten so low from lack of work. Used to be a person could make a difference with this job. Wondering if it is time for a change.
Do you ever feel that way?
wake me up!!!
I am sitting here about to fall asleep -- not because there is no work, but just ready to fall asleep on my keyboard!! I keep telling myself- GIRL- WAKE UP!!! I know there are several families out there that have no work or their significant other is laid off, which mine is off for two weeks, so I have to be THANKFUL for my job and make myself wake my booty up-- oh, along with my fingers!! Hope you all had a wonderful X-Mas! Santa was good to our family and friends- hope he was to you all also! Now, I have to get back to work!!!!
Wake me when it's over
I can hardly stand getting up every day and looking for a job in this industry. Now GM wants to make its cars in China and then sell them back here. HELLO?! What in heavens name is going on?
I think if our grandparents and their grandparents were faced with what we are now, they never would have immigrated here. We are going backwards.
I am tired, getting older by the minute. Somebody wake me when it's over.
Wake up.
As long as there is a profit motive in health care there will be lots of people trying to get rich off the sick. It's amoral.
I have never heard of anybody in Canada or Europe seriously demanding an end to their single-payer health care system in favor of a for-profit system. They know better.
You appear to be full of right-wing propaganda.
Wake up people.....
Exactly how long does it take for Americans to realize the only benefit in outsourcing is the benefit the fellow in India (or elsewhere) receives when he/she snatches your job!!
Thanks for the wake up call
Guess I forgot to mention that I'm pretty naive, too. Maybe I should just go back to reading and stop "talking" unless I know exactly what I'm saying. I was pretty sure ESL was straightforward for English second language, and I absolutely did NOT mean anything else by it. I apologize if anyone took what I said any other way.
btw MissIndigo -- where is your little rural Georgia office? We could be neighbors!
WAKE UP, PEOPLE
Of course there are factions in our government that want to keep us ignorant and keep us suffering from chronic disease. For one, the pharmaceutical industry has a lot of clout in government, especially with regards to financially supporting medical schools, politicians, etc.
Thank about it. For instance, why do you think they keep telling diabetics that it's okay to keep eating a little sugar? Because diabetes is a big industry!! They need for the diabetics to keep taking SOME medication; what would the industry do if the diabetics no longer needed medication, glucometers, test strips, nutritional counseling, blood tests, etc., etc.??? THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE...
I don't trust myself. I set the clock or I know I'd wake up 4 hrs later.

Don't tell me to wake up when you're the one who isn't seeing the big picture.
You don't even have a clue how much Canada buys from the U.S. I live right on the Canadian border. In fact, I even lived in Canada for several years. Canadians are far better for our economy than third world nations. They don't expect handouts and steal our work. They buy grain, beef, vegetables, commodities, health care, goods and services here. Canadians are good for our economy. Try taking a basic economics course before spouting off your invalid opinions.
And they can't "steal" our work anyways because their wages are the same as ours are.
4:30 a.m. and wake up before the sunrise. Weird. sm
I can't sleep in if I know I can, but wish I could when I can't. I set my alarm (which I never have to do) for 8:30 this morning and got up at 5:20. If I hadn't set it, I might have slept until 7:00, but I highly doubt it.
Funny thing is it never matters what time I go to bed, whether it's 8:00 p.m. or 1:00 a.m
Hubby was born around midnight and has worked the graveyard shift for nearly a decade, as he could never get out of bed in the morning for work. He goes to bed between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. and sleeps until dinner.
Two sons, both born at night who would sleep until 4:00 p.m. if they could.
Two daughters, both born in the a.m. that "sleep in" when they can, but never past 9:00 a.m.
This is too weird. Now I'm thinking I should have been born around 9:30 a.m. Then I could sleep until 7:30.
I can, however, nap on demand. I say to myself, "Okay, time to sleep for an hour now" and I'm zonked out for an hour, never longer, no alarm clock. Weird.
Obviously these people don't have to wake up and go to work EVER

But you WILL have to smell their pot. :) nm

I think the smell would be better in New Orleans

I smell a huge rat
Is your husband up to no-good with this loser? First of all any "my baby's daddy" situation has scumbag written all over it. Second of all, if your husband doesn't mind being used by this lazy bum for a free place to live, he has to be getting something out of the bargain. I'd be doing some serious checking around if I were you.
Meanwhile, you're right to keep this piece of crap away from your kids. If your husband likes him so much let him live with this waste of oxygen alone.
Good luck.
Sadly, nothing gets cig smell out of anything. It
always sneaks back. I have been burned 3 times out of 4 on E-Bay with MT stuff. I am a huge buyer and seller, and its the only area I've not been happy with, so I'd rather buy new now than risk it. Hopefully it will work. One thing I have tried is sealing whatever it is up in a bag for as long as possible, or as frequently as possible, with a Outdoor Fresh Scent Bounce or two in the sealed bag with the item. Over time the Bounces absorb some of the cig smell. But it would be a hassle undoing a C-phone every day and bagging it. Sorry - that smell makes me sick, too, and I used to smoke! Good luck.
If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep, I work a few hours sm
then I go back to sleep and when I wake up do more hours. A "regular day" no way.
I used to wake up in the morning and realize my pedal foot had been "transcribing" whatever
my dream had been about.
do I smell a newbie/cherrypicker?
You go over seas, learn medicine in conjunction with a new language fluently, then tell us how easy it is? These ESLs at least make an effort to slow down and be understood, more than I can say for the Americans. Besides, it is our job, being transcriptionists, to decipher these accents, research, and come up with the correct terminology for the report. Would you like mister rogers to dictate all of them? Come on, you can handle it!
Me too, how funny! It does smell good!

I smell a rat. If it were me, I would consider this the first red flag and be on the lookout
I smell a dead cat on the line.... so to say.
Such as in "another woman."
trolls smell rooty

Vinegar also takes smell out. sm
I always use vinegar when I need to get a smell out.
Whenever I burn popcorn in the microwave, I fill a coffee cup full of vinegar and set it in the microwave. It always takes the smell out.
I've steam cleaned pet soil out of my carpet using vinegar and baking soda, and the odor always goes away.
I smell a rat - I mean bully. Same thing.:)
OP,
I agree with Katz. No need to use profanity however. Don't risk your dignity and self-respect by stooping to her level. Yet, I agree with everything else, like telling her to shut up in a nice way -- let her know you are working and you suggest she does the same. She feels threatened obviously, so don't make it easy for her by quitting which is probably what she wants. I don't think the boss wants you to quit, however. It sounds like she just wants to skip out on the pay increase and manipulate the situation to her benefit (according to what you have said so far).
As for Ms. Obnoxious, sounds like she has figured out the only one she needs to get along with is the boss. And if she can get you to leave, then more work and job security for her. It's an awful mess of a situation you are in. I don't tolerate bullies and neither should you, and that is exactly what she sounds like -- a bully. You will have to give her the silent treatment instead of her giving you the silent treatment and even if she does give you the silent treatment, good. It doesn't sound like she has anything worthy to say anyway. In the meantime, if you want to be there for any reason -- to pay off a debt, to go back to school, to gain more experience before leaving, etc. -- then stay as long as you want. When you are ready, find the new job, test it out, then make the switch at your own pace. With your typing speed, I don't doubt you will be able to find something better. Just don't make it easy for anyone by quitting.
You are all that matters, especially on a job. Workers are not your friend. You have to find that outside of the workplace. I don't think talking to either one of them is worth anything. They already know they are in the wrong.
Best of luck to you.

moldy smell in carpet
I had the same thing and ended up finally tearing up the whole carpet and pad, then installing a wood laminate floor. It was expensive, but I had tried EVERYTHING, to no avail. Baking soda and vinegar are excellent remedies, IF the mold hasn't seeped into the pad. If it has, there is virtually nothing that will remove the smell altogether. We hadn't noticed the mold smell when we looked at the house. (The carpet had just been freshly shampooed to show the house.) It was after we bought it and moved in that we noticed it. Before my husband installed the wood laminate floor, we bleached the entire concrete slab, as the mold had also seeped in to the concrete. Bleach did the job on that. Good luck. :)
yikes
Stouffer's frozen chicken enchiladas and a pint of Ben and Jerry's New York Fudge Chunk!

I, and I know I am one of very few, actuall enjoy MQ, and like reading all the topics (probable because I work for them). Maybe there should be a board for MQers only??
Yikes!!!

I have such claustrophobia that it gives me a fright just looking at it!!!
Yikes, but I'm okay.
That really was rotten. I feel better. Throat actually was closing off this time. Wow, I guess I've learned my lesson there. Gotta be more careful. My Daddy carries an Epi-Pen. I guess it runs in the family. This reaction was far worse than the last one. I did take a Benadryl, thanks for asking. I haven't had a chance to sleep it off, but MUST KEEP TYPING...I will be sending those puppies back. Take care everybody!
yikes
As an SE, the company should have been taking out taxes for you and you would have to fill out a Schedule C. Delay the visit and talk to a CPA, not a tax preparer and take 2002, 2003 and 2004 to see if they need amending.
Yikes!
The $250 million lean medical transcription (MT) industry in India is racing ahead to grab a major slice of the global $12 billion pie. Industry experts told Business Standard that as the industry is maturing, players are adopting productivity enhancing tools, stringent quality control measures and training programmes and top this with highly improved communication facilities. With an acute shortage of required skill sets in the US, the industry is set to become a top foreign exchange earner in the coming years. The industry, which collapsed due to the low quality of the MT business adhering to a view that the only skill required by employees in MT was to listen and type, has in the last two-three years witnessed a comeback with a strong consolidation. As per a Nasscom report, MT will become the fourth largest foreign exchange earner in the next five years. Shedding light over the industry's potential, Rajiv Shetye, vice-president (Indian operations), Spryance India says, "The Healthcare BPO is a $200 billion business worldwide and medical transcription alone is worth more than $12 billion. The $110 million Indian MT industry will grow to become a $ 5-6 billion one in the next three years." With six to seven strong contenders and 200 serious players in all, the employment potential of the industry is huge. "The MT service in India has generated over 20,000 jobs and will add atleast 25 per cent more jobs per year," said Suresh Nair, CEO and Managing Director, Spheris India and President, Indian Medical Transcription Industry Association (IMTIA). As for Spheris, he said, "the company is growing at 50 per cent per annum and expects to increase its employee strength from 2,300 currently to 3,000 in the coming year." Spryance has also deployed over 1200 MTs including home-based medical transcriptionists and editors. "In five years time we plan to ramp up our employee base to almost 10,000," says Shetye. Noting that the Indian industry has come a long way from just employing English speaking graduates to employing doctors and students of medical science, Pankaj Bendigiri, an MBBS by qualification and manager of Spryance's Quality Assurance (QA) centre in Pune says, "MT as a profession is attracting doctors as it offers them lucrative remunerations and career options besides keeping them updated with the latest developments taking place in the field." Spryance has 20 doctors in its 100 people team in Pune and has started a six month QA course for doctors. "Currently the second batch of 13 doctors is undergoing training," said Bendigiri, adding that in the first batch they had trained seven doctors mostly from the disciplines of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery (BHMS). With highly improved communication facilities, "The trend of home-based Medical Transcriptionists (HMT) is also on the rise," says Nair, who has 10 per cent of his 2,300 people team working from home and credits the industry average to be higher at 25 per cent with few companies recruiting over 90 per cent HMTs.
yikes!!
I thought she was aging gracefully, now she looks like -------- The Joker...you are absolutely right.....
Yikes!
How you get the paint off depends on the type of paint it was. Best bet is to get the can and determine whether it was oil based or acrylic and then contact the paint department of a paint store for assistance.
