doggie love
I may be waaay out there, but the thought of reincarnation crossed my mind. They may be have been connected in another life. I'm pretty sure my cat was with me in another lifetime.
Why in the world is this crazy board so addicting?
Anybody know? I am spending more time on here than I am working! What is wrong with me?
I have been give 300 minutes of dictation...
I am an IC and have been given 300 minutes of dictation (digital) due by Wednesday. Is this possible? I am not the fastest MT either, which has me very concerned. Is this something most of you can do? I may have to give up this job if it is not something I can accomplish. ');> I am just so stressed out and want to cry.
TIA
Why in the world did you give them the templates?
That was pretty ballsy of them to even ask you to do this.
How much income would it take to give up the MT world? sm
I have been an at-home MT for 13 years but due to declining of this field and pay as we know it today, I am ready to bail and get another career. I have an interview tomorrow as an AFLAC benefits coordinator. How much income would it take for you to jump to another career and go back to the office setting?
Anyone know anything about being an AFLAC benefits coordinator or pay or know anyone in that field? I do believe it will somewhat be based on sales, not positive, but benefits look awesome all company paid. It does bother me to think of it being sales based somewhat in this economy though. I guess I won't know until my interview and will decide from there. I am currently an IC at 8 cpl, not even earning half of what I did a year ago.
How much income would it take you to jump bail and go for it?
Thank you so much... I love shorthand, but that always drove me crazy - sm
I have gone in and changed mine. Just proves you can learn something new each day, or you can teach an old dog new tricks, not sure which... lol
I love IT. Give yourself some time and
use the marker keys. You'll need to just slow down a bit at first, but the reward is awesome. I went from 45ish% productivity gain to low 60s. You really need to give it a good month with so many new things - marker keys, moving eyes, etc. I truly believe it's worth the money in the end. So slow down just a bit, the reward will be more lines for you. Also, visit the productivity talk forum. You'll find many great tips to help with shortcuts and commands, and the people there are wonderful when it comes to answering questions.
I'd love to give you some leads (sm)
since I was recently applying to find a second source of work. Send me an email, Jackie, and tell me what you're looking for in a service.
I love my children and willingly give up a lot for them- however
I do not expect them to "do the same" for me in my old age. First of all, it is not the same. I get a great deal of fulfillment and satisfaction from raising my children. The only really hard work is in the first six weeks and then they are so darn adorable you can't throw them out the window anyway. I have never thought of raising my children as a burden - in fact, after 6 years of infertility, two miscarriages and two ectopic pregancies, I am grateful each and every day that I have two children. Now if you feel the same way about your parents - you are grateful to still have them, it's not a burden it's a joy to care for them - by all means you may choose to spend your time caring for them. Parents have had time to plan for their elder years and think of what arrangements may be satisfactory to them. I might add that no one in America loses all their money and ends up out on the street, starving for rice. But I think the attitude towards elder care is changing. I think many people are now willing to put their parents in the nursing home though there is still much angst amongst the Boomers for their "cruelty." A lot of "how could you after all your mother did for you"- that sounds suspiciously like a guilt inducer not a fair assessment of the situation. I owe my children nothing. Everything I have done/will do for them is done freely out of love. Therefore my children owe me nothing.
i give credit to all who love ops cuz i cant stand them. i like cardiology

Doggie down
I used to babysit an English Cocker who totally lost control of her back legs due to a bad disc problem. It was so bad, the owners thought she would have to be put down. I suggested they try accupuncture and it was like a miracle. Within a couple of months, you would never have known this dog had had a problem. Luckily, the large city near us had a pet accupuncturist. Hopefully, you won't have to go to this extreme, but just wanted to let you know there are options out there.
Doggie
My dog is 14 1/2 years old and have been throught this a couple of times. I thought that I lost her once but it did not happen. She began with seizures after a course of prednisone (will not touch that medication ever again) and she would be paralyzed in her back legs. That was at age 5 to 6. Since then she has been weak in her back legs, also has his dysplasia, but she has continued to go for 1 to 2 miles walks 3 to 4 times a day. But last year she had a minor stroke (we think) and could not move out of her bed. I let her stay in bed, gave her a couple of aspirin and she came around again. But again she was weak in the back legs. But yours is probably more of the anesthetic as that works on the central nervous system as we all know and that affects her legs. So just give her some time. The older they get, the longer it takes. But watch what she is walking on, mine hates my kitchen floor. I also use the Petco glucosamine for her and it really helps. I also used to work for a Vet. They wanted to put my dog under to clean her teeth and I said "NO". She is not having any problems and will not put her through that. She is my child now and hopefully will have her through this winter and count my blessings everytime we make that mile walk. Good luck, my prayers are with you.
Patti
Your doggie
I bet you gave her a good home and loved her to pieces.
They know when they are crossing over just like we do when it's our time. She was so blessed to have you and you were to have her.
May time bring you peace and comfort.
Bless my doggie, Lady, who passed away tonight.
Lady, I'll love you forever. Mama
Doggie down situation update to the very kind posters below
Well, she is trying her best to put weight on her hind legs. I have been beside myself with worry and can actually tell she is scared as well.
Will let her rest. The procedure was stressful for her and I wish I had not had it done now. She held firm when they came for her; they had to pick her up and carry her - that in itself should have made me think that she was not up to it.
I just want her to be with me for a few more years if possible. The lipoma had grown so fast I was afraid it would continue to grow (it was size of egg, on her chest, by breast.)
Thank you very much for your posts. I thought you guys would think I was ridiculous to try to preserve my old girl. Was sure I'd come on today with people telling me to put her down. Thank you so much. She is my family.
Dogs dying from 'miracle drug'. Heads up, doggie owners
Marketed as a miracle drug for man's best friend, Rimadyl is one of the most popular painkillers available for dogs. And it's killing dogs by the thousands.
Vince Sharkey was faced with the decision every pet owner dreads, whether to euthanize his beloved dog King Billy.
Arthritis and deteriorating bones made it too painful for the 8-year-old golden retriever to walk.
His veterinarian recommended putting the dog down.
"He had so much life in him. I said, 'I just can't do that'."
Then Sharkey discovered Rimadyl, a prescription anti-inflammatory drug heavily marketed to owners of older dogs. Sharkey says Rimadyl saved his dog's life.
"Before I had him on the Rimadyl he was not even able to walk. He would drag his back half of his body. The moment we got him on Rimadyl, he was back to being his normal self again.
But Lynne Bradburn tells a very different story.
Her Saint Bernard, Honor, was just 22 months old when he died after taking Rimadyl for a sprained knee.
"He'd been sitting in my lap. And he looked up at me, and he died," Bradburn said.
Honor died after taking just four doses of the drug.
"They tell you it's as safe as aspirin. But it's not. And yes, I'm angry. And I will always be angry," Bradburn said.
The FDA reports some 12,516 complaints about Rimadyl dating back to 1997, including more than 2,300 cases where the dog died or had to be euthanized. The largest number of cases involve liver or kidney failure or internal bleeding.
Rimadyl's manufacturer, Pfizer, maintains the drug is safe, saying some 10 million dogs have taken over a billion doses of the drug, with less than 1 percent of them experiencing any negative side effects.
"There are side effects just as there are benefits with all medicines, with all medical procedures and certainly with Rimadyl. The good news about Rimadyl is that for the overwhelming majority of those 10 million dogs, plus, it has provided safe and effective pain relief," said Pfizer spokesman Robert Fauteux.
But the FDA approved Rimadyl after it was tested on just 549 dogs, raising the question, were the rest of the dogs that took the drug acting as guinea pigs?
Retired veterinarian turned attorney Paul Mabrey says a drug for humans would never be allowed on the market with such a small sample.
In response to continued concerns about the drug, Pfizer sent a letter to veterinarians across the country warning them that some side effects may "occur without warning" and, in rare situations may result in "hospitalization or even death."
Still, veterinarians continue prescribing Rimadyl more than any other drug in its class. But they're careful to warn dog owners looking for a miracle cure.
"There's a lot of people that want the medication not fully aware of everything that's entailed with that but we make sure to do everything we can to educate before they go on the medication," said Dr. Deborah Feltz, a the Elliott Bay Animal Hospital.
It's a warning echoed by those who know first hand what happens when a miracle drug proves imperfect.
I used to say he nursed for 30 minutes every 30 minutes. I was trying to figure
out a way to strap him across my chest so he could help himself while I went about whatever it was I had to do. I really miss those days too.
If they treat everyone that way

Treat others like you
There has been a lot of discussion on this board lately about how rude and impolite some of the posters are. What we are seeing here is also what is going on in our society. It is not something that is happening only in the MT world. This is something that has been taking place in our society for years, slowly and gradually taking hold of a large number of people who find it more convenient to let their frustrations out on others than fix their own lives. Have you ever tried approaching a cashier with a smile on your face and another with a grouchy look on your face? Then you know that the one you approached with a smile on your face was friendly and polite whereas the other one wasn't. Whenever you approach others with a smile on your face you will receive that smile back, even on a message board. I ask myself if those who lash out at others on a message board do so to their family members. If so, what kind of life are you living? Or are you the one on the receiving end and come here to pass that on to the posters on the boards? What kind of life are you living? Don't you all think that living in peace and harmony will contribute to your overall well-being?
What do those who are rude and impolite to others gain? Do you really feel better afterward? Do you want others to treat you the same way? It is like a contagious disease, and it seems to be more common to lash out than to be nice as if it hurts to be nice. You should be grateful that we live in a country in which we still can practice freedom of speech, at least to a certain extent.
Hiding behind anonymity while being rude and impolite is a cowardly thing to do. Take responsibility for your actions. Better yet, think next time before you lash out at someone seeking advice and remember when you started your first job. Did you seek and receive advice? Did someone give you a tip or spend time with you to help you understand the ins and outs of a job? Or have you never received help from anyone in your whole life? We all have received some type of support, help, and/or advice that helped us get back on track or be successful. Why not pass that positive experience tenfold or thousandfold back to others?
It is really very simple - treat others like you want others to treat you! Do this in all areas of your life not just in the MT world, and you will not only be a happier person but you will also make others happy. Give it a try - I promise it will not even hurt!!
Trick or treat
Since we have a Doberman, I doubt it will be a problem.
You have to treat us like humans
Im a breathing, walking, transcribing and talking human. may it be $20 or $200 per hour, you dont talk to us that way. I would declare war with you and your offer whatever it is.
That's how I would decide also. Treat others the way you
would want to be treated.
Does DTS America treat their people well?
I was thinking of testing with DTS America in Nashville and just wondering what anyone knew about them.
Thanks
We teach people how to treat us - I would not put up with this.
It seems this arrangement no longer works with your schedule. If they say they need the work now and you cannot do that any longer then you need to let them know why. Best of luck to you.
if doctors would only treat MTs like machines !!
this kills me, from the MT news board, a neurologist speaking:
What are the pitfalls? “Mumbling,” says Dr. Block, “that’s the main problem. Doctors are used to dictating in a low, monotone mumble, as fast as they can. A person might be able to handle it by going back and listening to the recording again and again. But for voice recognition, doctors need to speak in a normal, conversational tone of voice, just like we are doing right now. Speak normally, and Dragon has no problem, it works very well. It’s really quite simple.”
yes PLEASE, go ahead and treat me like a machine -- and that TAT would be a whole lot better!!!! and yes doc, you would save money too.....
You show people how to treat you. We don't
do gifts at my house. There isn't a single thing I need that I don't already have. I got breakfast in bed (omelet, bacon, and French toast). Lunch and dinner was cooked for me and the dishes done, laundry was done, the den picked up. My car was detailed by my children and my children also spread a pile of mulch for me. They would have had to spread the mulch anyway, but it would have taken days, they did it in about 1/2 day. I also received cards. The kids didn't fight, I didn't get anything that I wouldn't use anyway, and it was just a very nice day.
I always make a big deal out of birthdays and holidays for my family and they know what I want from them.
do your present laundry first and then treat yourself--sm
for a job *well done* by buying new clothes. That way you get both. just a suggestion.
well i am glad that they treat you that posted better
Odd it must have just been me cause I was with them two different times two years apart and both times the same crap! I am glad to see that they are treating some people nicer than myself! I really don't know what the deal is there, but I know I didn't get much positive feedback or help when I asked for help! Yes, the pay was not so hot either I agree with the other poster on that part. I have two years of transcription experience, but this gal did expect perfection from me on day one I can see maybe day 3 but not day one. As I said I am just speaking my experience and if anyone else has had similar to myself please don't hesitate to speak up! Thanks! Have a great weekend all!
That's used to treat fungus. Chickenpox is a virus, but thank you anyway!
I wouldnt go get him. Just treat him tonight even if he doesnt have it
That may keep him from getting it. Head lice is a nuisance but not hard to get rid of. I wouldnt sweat it. You should change their sheets, etc...
Thanks for this post. Glad that you are doing well, and hopefully the next year will treat you even
better. Blessings!
How could they NOT treat her? I mean, how on earth could the docs not 'touch her'?
Doesn't the physician on duty have an obligation to treat the patient? It'd be a greater lawsuit potential if they refused to treat her and she worsened or died. That doesn't make sense that they could chose not to treat her. It probably is stated as a complication but those can't really hold up in court. The possible complications list practically anything that could happen, including death, but that doesn't mean that if a person is injured or dies from surgery that the physician is absolved of any wrongdoing if they messed it up. I hope and pray she recovers fully.
This young person deserves a treat.
Great story. Thanks for sharing.
And you're willing to just accept that? Ever had your identity stolen? I have. It's no treat.
the police have made a report but whoopee, that's not getting my credit back on track. Talk about stress and grief. No one ever cares until it happens to them. What a shame.
If you treat when they are not there, they dont get resistent becuase they are not there to get resi
I think someone has told you some old wives tale about this. I went through this with my kids' school in the city. It was horrible. There are sprays out there and the doctor told us that they die within being off the body in 12 to 24 hours.
Since moving to the county, my kids have not had to deal with it.
If you treat when they are not there, they dont get resistent becuase they are not there to get resistent to it.
Your job is to type what the doc says, not diagnose the patient and decide how to treat them.
Kind of arrogant to put your 9 months to one year education (estimated length of an MT program) up against a doctors 10 years of education, dontcha think?
He may be an incompetent boob, but that's not for you or me to decide. It's up to the patient or their family members to decide to get a second opinion.
"Sorry, Mrs. Pheebles, but we can't treat your heart attack..."
"It seems the Conficker worm just ate your medical records."
I hate when companies treat us like we're working for pin money
Am I supposed to be happy when a company only gives me 200 or 300 lines a day when they promise you a certain amount (that is higher than that)? How would the company employees (not us lowly transcriptionists) feel if the company told them that they were only getting paid 100 dollars this pay period, that there wasn't enough work. Not enough to pay bills and keep food on the table, just pin money.
Sheesh.
ATT- I was paying $320 for 7000 minutes, I am now paying $175 for 5000 minutes in CA. nm

I, and I know I am one of very few, actuall enjoy MQ, and like reading all the topics (probable because I work for them). Maybe there should be a board for MQers only??
Yikes!!!

I have such claustrophobia that it gives me a fright just looking at it!!!
Yikes, but I'm okay.
That really was rotten. I feel better. Throat actually was closing off this time. Wow, I guess I've learned my lesson there. Gotta be more careful. My Daddy carries an Epi-Pen. I guess it runs in the family. This reaction was far worse than the last one. I did take a Benadryl, thanks for asking. I haven't had a chance to sleep it off, but MUST KEEP TYPING...I will be sending those puppies back. Take care everybody!
yikes
As an SE, the company should have been taking out taxes for you and you would have to fill out a Schedule C. Delay the visit and talk to a CPA, not a tax preparer and take 2002, 2003 and 2004 to see if they need amending.
Yikes!
The $250 million lean medical transcription (MT) industry in India is racing ahead to grab a major slice of the global $12 billion pie. Industry experts told Business Standard that as the industry is maturing, players are adopting productivity enhancing tools, stringent quality control measures and training programmes and top this with highly improved communication facilities. With an acute shortage of required skill sets in the US, the industry is set to become a top foreign exchange earner in the coming years. The industry, which collapsed due to the low quality of the MT business adhering to a view that the only skill required by employees in MT was to listen and type, has in the last two-three years witnessed a comeback with a strong consolidation. As per a Nasscom report, MT will become the fourth largest foreign exchange earner in the next five years. Shedding light over the industry's potential, Rajiv Shetye, vice-president (Indian operations), Spryance India says, "The Healthcare BPO is a $200 billion business worldwide and medical transcription alone is worth more than $12 billion. The $110 million Indian MT industry will grow to become a $ 5-6 billion one in the next three years." With six to seven strong contenders and 200 serious players in all, the employment potential of the industry is huge. "The MT service in India has generated over 20,000 jobs and will add atleast 25 per cent more jobs per year," said Suresh Nair, CEO and Managing Director, Spheris India and President, Indian Medical Transcription Industry Association (IMTIA). As for Spheris, he said, "the company is growing at 50 per cent per annum and expects to increase its employee strength from 2,300 currently to 3,000 in the coming year." Spryance has also deployed over 1200 MTs including home-based medical transcriptionists and editors. "In five years time we plan to ramp up our employee base to almost 10,000," says Shetye. Noting that the Indian industry has come a long way from just employing English speaking graduates to employing doctors and students of medical science, Pankaj Bendigiri, an MBBS by qualification and manager of Spryance's Quality Assurance (QA) centre in Pune says, "MT as a profession is attracting doctors as it offers them lucrative remunerations and career options besides keeping them updated with the latest developments taking place in the field." Spryance has 20 doctors in its 100 people team in Pune and has started a six month QA course for doctors. "Currently the second batch of 13 doctors is undergoing training," said Bendigiri, adding that in the first batch they had trained seven doctors mostly from the disciplines of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery (BHMS). With highly improved communication facilities, "The trend of home-based Medical Transcriptionists (HMT) is also on the rise," says Nair, who has 10 per cent of his 2,300 people team working from home and credits the industry average to be higher at 25 per cent with few companies recruiting over 90 per cent HMTs.
yikes!!
I thought she was aging gracefully, now she looks like -------- The Joker...you are absolutely right.....
Yikes!
How you get the paint off depends on the type of paint it was. Best bet is to get the can and determine whether it was oil based or acrylic and then contact the paint department of a paint store for assistance.
yikes!!

Yikes.
They need to address the quality issue with each MT, not just a general blanket thing for everyone.
