Have you tried the tech support for Instant Text? sm
They may be able to send you a patch to fix the problem.
Instant Text tech support probably already asked you this...
You're running the latest version, right? And you click on the link options button when you check to see if your word processor is linked? There's an option in there to automatically follow applications. I switch back and forth between Word and WP every day and never had this happen to me. You probably have something else running in the background that's messing you up.
Also, tech support for Shorthand is unbeatable. I have had it 10 years and I get instant feedback f

Instant Text expander..Does anyone know if it works with Bayscribe? sm
and how expensive it is? I currently use ShortHand but reading some of the posts below feel I might be interested in trying Instant Text. Do you know if I would be able to transfer my Shorthand abbreviations into Instant Text? Thanks for your help!
Instant Text is the only expander that can compile glossaries
from previously saved reports and automatically create your short forms so you don't have to memorize anything. Have you been to their site to see the overview of how the program works?
ABCZ expander shortcuts for Instant Text
I am in search of abcz Expander shortcuts already made into a list or glossary for Instant Text or Smartype. Does anyone know where to find them?
Thanks
Bayscribe expander entries/Instant Text question ...
Has anyone here had success in converting their Bayscribe Expander entries to Instant Text? If so, how did you go about it.
Thanks in advance.
Tech support will help you set up a
shortcut on your desktop to access your ACO (shortcut) file if you ask them.
Re: tech support
I don't know if it gets back to our supervisors, but I wish it would get back to theirs! What I do now is tell the "real winner" support person that I have to hang up suddenly. Then, I call right back. I suddenly get a different one who is a whiz and very helpful. It's worth the hang-up and call back unless you have to wait 45 minutes for the next "helpful tech." ;-)
Tech Support
I had a problem back in January. I have AT&T. I finally ended up calling the help desk for AT&T (They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.) He told me to do the following (and it worked). What I was trying to do was put in an application on line, and the message kept coming up that I was not able to do that.)
Turn off or unplug moden., Turn off computer. Wait about 3 minutes. Turn on modem and wait until at least 3 lights are on solidly (cannot be flashing). The lights on the modem are Power, Ethernet, DIFFUSE SLOWING, Internet and Activity. I hope this helps. But the person i spoke to at the help desk was very helpful.
Tech Support
Correction to my previous message. The one light on the modem is UDSL. It is not diffuse slowing. Sorry.

For Tech Support (or anyone else that knows!) sm
I want to save my autocorrect entries so that when "tech support" starts monkeying around with the platform they don't delete them all like they did. How do I do that? I can't get them to save in Extext. Thanks!

You seem to help a lot of people on here and that's commendable. We are all in the same lifeboat. I think they upgraded the SP2 and it took at least a half hour but think it's okay now as it allowed me to add the Norton as it would not before I updated. Anyway, I have such a stiff neck just from the stress that I will only be using my laptop today but I think it's pretty well fixed and connected. Thanks again, keep on being positive and helpful. After all, that's why I come on the board, not to "fight" and argue. You are very helpful..Most are.

Have you asked Tech support
if there is a way to export your Expanders from SmartType to DQS? Maybe if not a direct way there is an indirect way, such as pasting to Notepad and then into DQS? That would at least help you in the meantime.
tech support and state of IT in USA
... yes, very interesting. I just had a computer repair guy here in my office on Saturday to do some work on my computers. He was quite educated. Told me that MORE THAN HAVE THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY JOBS in this country are outsourced and there is no end in sight. He said he got out when he saw it was hopeless with corporates continuing the trend. He started his own business repairing computers. He said most of the Indians's idea of "repair" over the phone is "JUST REFORMAT YOUR HARD DRIVE!"
Can't you ask your tech support people?

I have never had any problems with it. Have you tried your tech support?
They might be able to assist you.
It's a shame that you have no tech support
when you need it. Situations like this take away from your line count because it takes time to explore and find out the problem.
Did you contact IT tech support?
They are wonderful with helping when something like this happens.
SpeedType and ShortHand are the same program. SpeedType will cost you double. They both have the exact same converter file for converting from other Expanders unless you want to pay additional money to have it done by SpeedType.
I believe you need to contact tech support sm
for the no cap thing with all of your software issues. I think they have a patch to fix it. Their address is support@textware.com.
Dell Tech Support
I was actually on the phone with them for about 2 hours today trying to get my internet going. I could barely understand the first lady who was "trying" to help me, and she ended up messing me up. I ended up calling back to see if I could get someone who knew what they were doing. This time a got a really nice guy, very helpful, straightened everything out for me. I guess it depends on who you get.
Tech support for Dictaphone
Does anyone know where I go to get tech support for Dictaphone foot pedal 148519, the one that you use with adapter? I can't get my computer to pick it up. So I don't know what to do.
Tech support at Emdat
The absolute best thing to do, if you are having problems, is to call tech support at Emdat. (630)743-0500, extension 1. They are very helpful and patient. I don't know what version you have, but it sounds like it may be corrupted or possibly missing an update. I have never had the problems you are having. If you need actual tips on how to do specific things (maneuver around, find something), you can e-mail me anytime.

I was told sometimes they forget to "allow" that when setting you up.

I called tech support
I called tech support for my software and we got them going. The key is to have no other programs running when you install them. Guess I didn't realize that.
interesting tech support
This is good to know. My currrent employer need XP professional, I have Home Edition. They offered to send me their PC with that on it. I found where I can purchase Professional version online and think it would be a simplier thing (after I get it installed) because i would have access to all my reference material, word Expander and not have to keep switching cables back and forth. A question to them (the company) if I got the CD how would it work, does it go over the top of Home Edition, could they install it remotely? What would be a fair price to offer them to do this. They did not ask, but I feel it is only fair.
Okay, talked to a tech support guy at my office and
Medquist switched the Imail system to web-based, partly to help cut down on virus transfer, and now it is a mess and thousands of employees are trying to access their mail at once on the same system (I still haven't been able to get on). He wasn't too happy about it and hopes that either they will figure out a solution to this or change it back to the old Imail.
Definitely why they have tech support! Something's wrong with your equipment. Been on
DocQScribe for years and never had 1 single hesitation or anything as you describe! Get it fixed! Well worth it, as the system is seamless when working properly! Good luck!
I have no idea who my tech support people
are, but I suppose I could ask my supervisor. I just didn't know if there was a program that was generally used, etc. I will send her an email and see what she says.
back again after my 7th call to the tech support
Thanks for the warranty/technician advice...
Our initial impression too was that it was so great having this satellite internet (compared to our only other option dial-up). We first had the DW6000, and decided to upgrade because of our extreme satisfaction with the system (especially my husband who has been trying to convert to Linux and has been downloading big software files for that purpose).
I just talked to the Advanced Support personnel (that was after 25 minutes of talking to the lower support), and all he could say was that they were still trying to resolve the issue and could not give me a timeframe, that if I wanted to use the net I would just have to check from time to time.
I hate being able to work for 5-20 minutes, only to get no connection again and make the 30-minute call again, and have the internet working again for several minutes (the longest it was probably continuously working was three hours last night, when DH dl'ed 100 MB of software). I decided to just have the day off (again).
I hope that this issue would resolve very soon. I pay their service using my MT income. Now I am losing income yet I still have to pay them monthly.
I wonder if I could try to use the DW6000 (we still have the modem) and see if it will have the same issues...I will ask DH about it when he comes home...
Meantime, I will do some chores. I have lost the gumption to work today...
Tech support told me not to load 7.0...
they have seen numerous problems with it already causing issues with programs, particularly Outlook Express
Give a call to their tech support.
Maybe if you delete them from one computer, they'll give you an unlock code for another upload.
It works!! Thank goodness for tech support. sm
They had to call the developer and he got into my pc and fixed it. Now I am up and running.
CAll IT tech support direct and they will help you out.

Never mind. I sent an email to IT tech support. Thx. nm

Unfortunately, that's one of the common problems with tech support. sm
Granted, there are exceptions and there are IT departments that give stellar support, but I've found that all too often there is an automatic assumption that any problem reported is due to user error and it may take a number of users reporting the same problem before that finger of blame gets turned around and they start looking at the system itself. :-
I would strongly suggest mentioning the problem to your IT folks, as your report may be the one that tips the scales and finally gets some action.

Stedman's has free tech support
I had problems getting their spellcheck on my computer, too. The company I worked for had a tech dept. and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working properly and had me call Stedman's (got the number on their web page where I ordered the spellchecker.) Turns out I had to load it differently than the directions they included. No biggie. Call them and they will fix you up in no time for free on the spot.
You must install from the CD. Call IT tech support
and they can send you a new CD. The only files you can transfer are your glossaries.
I am running on Windows 98. Tech does not support it. I am doing fine.
Ideally they say DQS should run on XP. Ideally MQ should pay me enough so I could afford to replace my computer. Maybe when Frank MQ gets around to raising statuatory employees line count after 5-6 years service to MQ, I can afford XP.
Best to call tech support but be ready to take your brain
One person will tell you you have to have WindowsXP and don't try loading Windows XP on Windows 98. Then somebody else will tell you that you can load WindowsXP on top of your Windows 98. Good luck.
interesting perspective on outsourcing tech support
My husband was in a networking class last night and the teacher, who he says really knows his stuff, polled the class to see how everyone felt about tech support being outsourced. Well, the general concensus was pretty negative.
The teacher also voiced his opinion. He had absolutely nothing good to say about them. They don't know what they're doing. They read from a script and so forth.
He pretty much said, "The damn Indians don't know squat about computers."
The teacher ... is from India.
Interesting, huh?
