i think it is incredibly gross. personal hygiene commercials are just gross anyway.
this one is stupid and gross.
A gross line IS a gross line regardless if it's 90 characters long or 1 character long... SM
I'm very sorry that your lines are 90 characters line and you get paid by gross lines. You are cheating yourself - that's not my fault. You cannot change the definition of a gross line. So I gues I'm not understanding what you are trying to say. Now if you are trying to say that your line equals 90 characters and that's how you figure your lines, than you are not using gross lines. You have defined a line to be 90 characters, whereas most MTSOs define a line as 65 characters. If that is the case, then I must say again, you are cheating yourself.
So which is it, do you get paid by gross lines or by a 90 character line?
65-gross line vs.65-gross character line
Can someone explain the difference between these two? I am assuming that the gross line is better than the gross character line. How much better is being paid by the gross character line than just by the standard 65-character line? Does anyone know how much difference it would make in dollars and cents?
Thanks.
How do you know she is gross?
Do you personally know her? I dont' think so. Everybody has skeletons in their closet, hers are just magnified because she is in the public eye. Don't judge people you don't even know.
What was gross?
Perhaps you happened to look in a mirror instead.

She is gross, but
I do like her Sierra Mist commercial
gross
Gross lines are anything on a line counted as a line, even if it is only a couple characters. I think 9 c/gross line is usually equal to about 12-13/65 cpl.
Gross!

that is so gross!
who would even come up with such a strange combination??

I'd go with gross.
You'll spend more time doing the math unless you use a line counting program. JMO. Stick with the 12 cpl and don't short yourself. You may have some horrible dictators as well unless you already know how they dictate. The 12 cpl gross will make for that.
that's gross!
I had one of those once and what was also nasty was that he passed gas...a long trail...while urinating. He too stopped to talk to people. Maybe this is why doctor's are taught to wash their hands before each patient.
gross vs 65
Gross much better - anything typed on a line.
Gross or 65 cpl
I charge 12 to 12.5 gross lines but I pick up and deliver, print, etc.
this might be gross but...
i like to do a Google image search for many of the diseases from dictations i do. i find all of this terribly fascinating and it's kind of cool to be able to not only tell somebody what a particular condition is should they ask, but to be able to describe it to them in a visual sense as well.
i also enjoy working with my medical terminology flashcards when i have any downtime. sometimes my pool would be empty (especially toward the end of the month when all the people who slacked off during the first three weeks were scrambling to get their lines in) so i'd take advantage of that extra time to pay a bill online or throw some laundry in.
Per Gross Line Pay?
Being relatively new to MT, I'm not quite sure what being paid by the gross line is as opposed to being paid by a 65 character line. Can someone clear me up on this. Thanks much.
gross line
I am paid by the gross line whether one word is on it or 10 or 12, the same amount.
If you are paid by 65 character line, you take the characters and divide by 65 or use Sylcount whereas you are can then paid for each keystroke, i.e. capitalization, underline is two characters, etc. YOu have to define what a line is or what a character is.
gross line
Thanks Patti!!
No....only if you are doing gross lines- nm

gross commercials lol
This actually was a comedy routine about them, remember Balki anyone? Forgot the show but he was here in the US living with his cousin?
He did a comedy stint about his first nice, sit down dinner in America. He was having his boss & family over and wanted to do it just right, so he went to the grocery.
"Can you believe what you can find in America, they already sanitize your napkins, so all you have to do is put silverware on them and your table is set"..But he was having trouble with the spoon rolling off the "Sanitary Napkins". OMG thought I'd lose it. Then he added the gourmet jelly...KY jelly "it is what the state of Kentucky is famous for so it must be good"..that was a good but gross stint.

6 is a good gross line rate when you figure it is equal to at least 8.5 if it were counted at 65 characters, most companies don't want to pay more than 7-8
gross lines
One can do far better in a day when counting gross lines rather than character counted -- especially if very familiar with the accounts (of course, that helps either way :).
11 cpl gross equals what on a 65?
nm
is it scary though? or just gross?

Sorry, but gross generalization.
I am married to a very well-educated, white collar guy and he does everything for me that you described your blue collar guy does for you and more. While DH is clean and well-groomed, he is far from vain and not at all the stereotype you described. Also, I've seen blue collar men who are disgusting pigs who just want to drink beer and watch TV.
Conclusion: There are both blue and white collar princes and both blue and white collar toads, so please do not generalize. :-)
Gross line
What is a gross line and how is it figured? The contract states 6 cpl for 68 characters. Although, after just speaking with the company, every space, keystroke is counted. Still confused.
Gross line
What is a gross line, and how is it figured?
Gross!! Maybe in the 70s-now the Stones are just 70!

I do gross lines
I go into file, properties, statistics and that gives me my gross count. Very simple and easy as long as you are using Word, no program to buy. I am surprised that the company you are working for did not show this to you. Also gives you characters if you are paid for characters divided by whatever your line is and not gross lines.

Gross line
I do gross lines and if they want a smaller font, I change it back to Courier or Arial 12 and count that way. I have been lucky as just raised my rates 0.005 to 11.0 but have not raised in the past 4 years. I do do pick up and delivery as they are still on tapes and told them that with the gas I had to do it. They had no problem as I am still one of the lowest here in the Portland area. And, they have been with me from 6 to 18 years my accounts. But I still go on what I can do in an hour and since I have been doing these docs so long I can make anywhere from 30 to 50 dollars an hour and I think that is a fair rate for me. I still believe the only ones getting rich in this medical mess is the insurance companies and that was in the news this last week. Their big profits. Anyway go with gross line, I still quote it as 65 characters per line which it is but I count by gross and 12 font. Patti
Gross line
I bill for gross line which means each line counts whether there are 10 words or one word each line counts. So when I type in a smaller font, there are less lines than in Courier. I do not take the characters and divide by 65. Hope that makes sense. So the smaller font, the less lines. So when I contract with a client I tell them that my price per cpl it is a 65 character line in Courier font. If they chose to use Ariel 10, I will type in that for them but the line count is done in Courier or at least Ariel 10.
a GROSS error???????
come on. I do not think I would want to work for you!!!!!! **said jokingly**
To me a gross error is something that changes the meaning of something. You didn't get that the MT was from California when he/she put "Ca" instead of CA????? Sheesh......give 'em a break.
This is a style error not a GROSS ERROR. Maybe you should put this in your advertisement "Please use AAMT BOS guidelines when filling out application and submitting employment letter". ROFLOL!!!!!!
Seriously though, I think if the MT has a good resume and performs well on the exam that he/she should be given a chance. Be clear that you expect proper style guidelines utilized. If they still want to do things their way (from the 1950s, LOL) then put them in your delete box :-)
Just a thought.
Have a good day!

gross line
Hi, a gross line is a line that is counted if there is even only one character in it, as opposed to the usual line count of having to have 65 characters in it. so, for instance if you have a line that says *1.* and that is all, it is ocunted as a whole line.
sounded gross at first to me, but
This doesn't sound very appetizing to me, but I do love the McDonald's McGriddles. It's like having the bacon or sausage between your pancakes. So very good!
Gross line - What does this mean?
What is the difference between regular cents per line and gross line pay? For instance, if a company pays 8 cents per line, what would this be for gross line pay?? Thanks for any information.
yep, it was more like 55K gross, 20K taxable.

Anybody charge 12 cpl gross?
12 cpl gross based on Courier 12? Is that too high these days? I just sent my first bill to a customer at this rate and they freaked. They offered nothing but praise about my service up until this point. I was upfront about the rate when we negotiated the agreement and they signed a contract, but now they are balking, and I'm worried. :(
gross line here
One account that I inherited told me to count from top to bottom, gross lines and just use microsoft word lines. Their margins are 1" for chart notes and -- I did not do this they requested, letters/consults 1.45 as it lines up with their letter head. Count blank lines, etc., was told to do it this way. But then again I charge .115 per line and type in Times Roman 12. Again, I figure out how much per hour I make and try to keep my cpl in line with that. Another account wants chart notes in Arial 10 and I told them when I bid my cpl is for Courier 12 and so I change the file back to Courier 12 when I do my line count for them. But I do all in gross lines, one word or 10 words all the same price for the line. I do print and supply all paper except for letter head, pick up and deliver which is all included in my price. But I make good money and again look at my hourly rate and my monthly receivables to see if it works for me.

gross lines
Hey everybody, gross lines are TOTALLY different than a 65-character line. I used to have a gross lines account doing operative reports and I did at least 2000 a day in about 5 hours. Now I am on a 65 character line and I struggle to get 2000 in 8 hours. If I had my old account and worked 12 hours, I would be getting AT LEAST 4200 lines a day. You gotta compare apples to apples. :)
Which is better, 10 cpl 65 ccl, or 7.5 cpl gross line? sm
Gross line is courier new 12, 1-inch margins. I tried to figure out some kind of formula, but not really sure where to start.
Any input is appreciated.
gross/straight
what is the difference between the two when charging a physician. thank you for your help!
Raw gross lines will pay the most sm
If you type in word. You simply highlight the entire document and do a word count using the tools. Once you have your line count, you would times that by cents per line you charge. 65 character with or without spaces will be doing your own math for each document and takes more time. Go mid range in this instance if you use raw line count. Be sure to have a contract agreement or at least a Memorandum of Understanding and provide them with good turnaround as stated in your contract. This makes you look very professional and worth the going rate. Congratulations! NOTE: And to think there have been statements made like "everything is going to voice recognition". Your "new account" says NOT!!! Have fun!
I charge gross
I have always charged gross line. I think, at least my docs, look at the price per cpl and don't think about what constitutes a line. They like the lower rate. I did explain to one doctor when they did say about being sometimes one to two words per line vs 8 to 9. Compare it to their office visit charge. One patient they may spend 22 minutes with and the other 44 but they are both charged the same and that is the same for my lines. Same as surgical procedures. They are billed out in increments of 15 minutes, if they spend 31 minutes it is the same charge as 44 but if they go to 46 they can charge out the full 60 minutes.
Is this for gross lines or sm
65 character lines?
I think that would make a big difference.
gross line
Unless your margins are teeny-tiny, that sounds like a really good rate for gross lines.
Gross Line is actually better. sm
Any line with characters is considered a gross line. You should be fine at 8-8.5. Some work for 8-8.5 for 65 character line for a company. However, if this is your own account, you may want to go to 10 cpl.
More than me with gross lines
That is more than me with a gross line count, checked a couple of documents. Except for when I do a lot of consults/letters and I am about to count from date to signature for gross lines. But if you do mostly chart notes, it is good. Just check a couple of your documents and see what it is versus 65cpl at 12 to 13 cpl and then gross line at 12 to 13 cpl and see where you stand. Again, I used to be paid 1 cent per word and did well until it comes to letters. Also, only you know what you make per hour and if it is good for you.
Patti
Definitely gross line or cpl
I never bid per page anymore but by the line. On a full page you can get anywhere from 50 to60 depending on the font and if you times that by 0.12 it is better pay. It also depends if you are putting the chart notes consinuously and counting just full pages and not per each patient. To me $3 per full page is WAY low, I used to charge when first starting out back in --- wow am I old -- 1988 $1.00 -- 10 lines or less, $2.50 half page and $4.00 full page. Now I am lucky that my accounts all started out with me doing gross lines when it was still acceptable and I continue with gross lines, put patient after patient on sticky paper and just do line counts per Microsoft word. That is what they are used to and that is one reason my rates are a little lower. All averages out. But per page - to me - does go in your favor.
Good luck and congrats.
