I had a friend whose cat disappeared for about - sm
2 weeks (he was sick already) but ended up coming home to die. I am glad for my friend that the cat returned because she was feeling pretty bad about letting the cat out. The cat was an indoor/outdoor cat. As for it getting sick from the toilet, I highly doubt it. If your cat was old then maybe he did go off to die in the woods, or wherever. If he was young and he is not back yet then I would fear the worst unfortunately. We have a cat but choose to keep it in as we live 3/10 of a mile from a very busy road, too many neighbors pets have gotten killed up there (dogs, which I don't understand, we keep our dogs in a big fenced in back yard and the one dog is well-trained in terms of being called back if she ever gets loose). Our cat is actually afraid of the outside. I took her out once on a harness and leash when she was about 6 months old, she was terrified and ended up squirming out of the harness. Luckily I was able to "catch" her and bring her in. Now she "hunts" from the window squirrels and birds and seems to enjoy herself just watching out the windows. She is 3 now and quite happy.

Help please - all my documents disappeared. sm
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? Everything that I had stored in my documents folder disappeared. Any settings that I had specific to my computer are gone like including my favorites on IE, my normal.dot with all my macros, autocorrect entries, etc. for word, all music files, all pictures, and any and all word and excel based documents I had saved. Interestingly my daughters user ID is fine and none of her documents disappeared. I have ran virus scanners to know avail so I don't know if it was some sort of virus or hardware failure. Any ideas? It is a pain to start all over. Also, what does everyone use for backup? This is about the third time this year I have had computer issues and lost everything and I am so TIRED of starting over and kicking my production time in half until I get myself built back up. I am ready for some type of really awesome backup to assure this does not happen to me again.

Menu bar in Word disappeared!! Is there a toggle on
There must be a keyboard combination that I inadvertantly hit to make my Menu Bar (File/View/Tools, etc.) go away. Does anyone know what I need to do to toggle it back on? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word and several other fix-its, but have realized it's probably something as dumb as this. Please help!

My Stedmans spellcheck disappeared with SP 2 for Office 2003!
An update from Microsoft of SP 2 for Office 2003, a reboot and now when I open Word my Stedmans spellcheck doesn't work. I tried to reload it and that doesn't work, either. Anyone else have this happen? I looked and it's in "Proof" for dictionaries as LEXB4SP, but it's not loading up and replacing the Word spellcheck. Now what do I do?

I read that this story is so unique which is why it is getting so much coverage, and her parentes are talking to the media which a lot of grieving familes won't/don't do. Think about Jessica Lunsford's dad and how much you saw him on the news talking all the time to try to help his case. Which is what Beth Holloway Twitty is doing.
I truly think that if this Holloway gal was black and her parents were willing to talk to the media and give interviews all the time, I'm sure there would be coverage.
It's not about a rich white thing. Get over that. I am Hispanic and I don't even believe that. If you had a family member disappear and you were willing to talk to the media and had a good "story" you would get coverage. Trust me.

Sorry if I offended anyone when I saw it I had a good laugh with everyone else but still thought there was good advice in the post but I guess not -- my apologies if I offended and will watch my ShortHand lol.
The easy part is making the decision to leave, the hard part is
actually doing it. Been in your shoes and it took me a year and a half to leave after I had made the decision to do so. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself and my girls. I had family and friends and a counselor telling me what needed to be done and I knew what needed to be done but until I had the courage on my own to do it I stayed. One day, we had an argument and he spit in my face and that was the last straw for me. Even though it is something that I will NEVER forget, that day is also a day I will never forget because it is the day that I took my kids and left. I am a single mom of 2 and have been single and supporting us for 5 years now. I have been healing ever since and still am to this day. You can do this. I know that if I hadn't have left and I would have stayed one of us would be dead by now or both.

I too am sick of the hospital staff/administration cowardly standing in the corner, afraid to say anything to them, as if they are gods or something. I'll never forget one cardiologist who everybody dreaded but because he was a BIG admitter, meaning BIG BUCKS for the hospital, everybody just preached to the MT and kept their mouth shut to the problem.....the doctor!!
He had the gall to come through MR one morning and brought in a report, asking why a blank. Well, since the other MT (who he walked up to) sat there shaking in her boots, I turned around and let loose. It just all came out. I told him that we are human, we are not able to compute mumbling, chewing while dictating, four people in the room talking to you while you are dictating, laughing at a joke, yawning while continuing to talk, or other bodily functions which interfere with what we hear on the other end. I also told him that considering all this, he was lucky to have only one blank. Well, after he stood there a second and started at me, he sort of grinned in his cocky smirky way and said, "Well, anyone should be able to KNOW what I was saying", to which I replied to him that I was not psychic and it is not my job to guess at what he is saying; that guessing is not fair to the patient, now is it, since that is the MOST IMPORTANT thing we are here for.....the patient. Well, I guess he had nothing to reply to that, reminding him he was not the reason we were there but the patient was. He just shrugged and walked out. Never heard another word about blanks from that day on.

if you have used Alt Q to make your blank, when you are at the end of the report, you should be able to use Alt Y to jump to your blank. Put your cursor at the top of the report, use Alt. Y to jump to your blanks. Saves a lot of time.
One correction in that...
in your second to last paragraph you said "How should BE pay for our food" and I think you meant "we".
Just might want to change that before sending it out to anyone else! But other than that very, very well written!!!
Yep...had an old doc who would always say, when making a correction (sm)
"Ummm, STENOGRAPHER, please change..." etc. Yeah, like I'm sitting here doing Gregg shorthand!!! Drove me nuts!
Also used to have one who loved to editorialize as he dictated...had a great sense of humor, tho', & I really enjoyed him. He'd always start off with "Hello Transcription!!!"
Sometimes I wish I had a tape of all the docs' bloopers to listen to on the days when I wonder why I do this for a living

Ugh! Correction Reports!
Does your heart ever sink into your stomach when you look at your correction reports? I really don't make many mistakes, but just made 5 out of 31 reports on a particular account that I really want so badly to do perfectly! And 4 of them were doggone header things (how did I miss them?) GACK!!! I feel so dumb!!

Where I work, there's a new group of QAs, some of whom correct the reports without going according to the client specs. UGH!! It can make you sick if you let it. I finally gave up the frustration and suggested to my manager that I would not take those correction reports so seriously, as it's the monthly performance report that really matters. That's the one that I will check very closely.

When I worked in Meditech and did a correction,
the revision date and initial date of my correction following those of the first transcriptionist.
It is a Joint Commission requirement that a visible trail be placed on any corrections. There are rules if it is handwritten versus type printed. But which ever way you slice it, if the trail is not there, the facility can lose their accreditation. I was asked to do several files at a time by using a macro to search/replace. This request was by the VP of the company. I told her she knew what needed doing, obviously, picked up my coat and told her I was late for an appointment. If anything was changed, I was not going to participate it in. There is also a way to whistle blow on those who do the less than honest practices.

Editing questions- which Keystrokes actually corrects the documents in the Correction Client, therefore, correcting the terms to the future to that dictator. Does Ctrl D and transcribing the correction cause Correction Client to sit up and take notice. Can you block the text with Ctrl K, Ctrl J, Ctrl-Shift K, and Ctrl-Shift J and start transcribing the correction (will Correction Client see that). Thank you.

Sad, but true, and sooooooooooooooooooooo depressing for those of us who QA. There is no nice way to point out errors - believe me, I've tried it all. Smiley faces - trying to be kind, humorous, self deprecating - nothing works if they are one of "those" MTs who just do not take correction at all. MTs either own their mistakes, or they freak.
