In Reply to: any encouraging words for a newbie with crappy line counts? - feeling discouraged

First of all, rough start going for acute care first.  I didn't have the choice, luckily it was made for me.  Second of all, macros, macros, macros. Get ideas on how to make up macros from others, but don't feel like their way is the only way.  Make macros that make sense to you, then you will be more apt to use them.  Acute care PEs and ROS' are just as "normal" as clinic.  Get samples, get the hook up with someone else on that account who maybe even works your shift so you can email and asked for help if they don't mind.

Now, about line counts: Once I got my routine down, reference materials, familiarity with the dictators, rules and regulations of my first account, proofreading (still type teh instead of the a lot, I look through my reports especially for that, made a macro to fix it), I was at 150 lph in about 6 weeks.  About 6 weeks later, I hit the big 200 (drank a wine cooler, then one more).

Before long, you will be doing 150 an hour.  If you can manage the acute care, clinic will seem like a walk in the park.  If you continue to struggle on the acute care, especially ops, ask your sup to take you off ops for a while and let you do Discharges, H&Ps, and Consults; or better yet ER (whooohoooo).  That way you can get your confidence up, make some money.  Send things to QA, use their corrections as samples.  Don't get discouraged by the differences in QA calls, we all go through that. The key is not to make the same mistake twice.

The main thing is don't give up, and don't get discouraged by some MTs who don't remember their first few weeks, the crying, the cursing, the not eating, the worry about finances. Don't get discouraged if there seems to be very little help, because there is always one of us out there in the middle of the night who would be more than happy to help.  I would.  And, you'll know you got it goin' on when you can watch CSI and know what Grissom is gonna say before he says it.
