You know you've lost it when while typing...
you mess with their voices just to entertain yourself. I like to make them sound like elves. Anyone else? I could use a good laugh.

Cost $275, how long (years) to break even
This is such a waste. It is about MONEY for that AAMT or whatever name they decided on now. They just won 1.5 million from Medquist and the MTs got zip. They helped devise how line counts calculated. Google AAMT + line counts + Medquist. MQ doctored the line counts on hospitals and MT on line count. They are not about the MT AT ALL. Save your money will never break even on the $275.
Remembering those lost 4 years ago
I just wanted to take a moment to remember those lost in the planes, the WTC, and the Pentagon 4 years ago including Laurie Neira, one of our own, who MT'd for YOG.
I lost my brother 17 years ago and still cry every day.
I know it wasn't my father, but the loss is still great! I understand. The pain will never go away, it will just dull. You need to remember that you must go on and live with his memory and love in your heart! It really does get a little easier as time does heal a bit, but it will never go away.
There are times now that I can get through the day without a tear, but one song on the radio or one look into his daughter's eyes and the wells start overflowing.
I, by no means, am depressed. Actually I am a very happy person; however, that does not mean you take a minute to think about someone you have lost and shed a tear or two, wipe them away, and go on with your day and life.
Just know, he is with you and it will get better. One day you will wake up and smile just knowing he is looking down on you! Then, you will be able to start to heal and the pain won't be as great.
Estimation was the wrong word...it is rounding the cost up.
The total is the correct amount but the cost shown per document is rounded up to the nearest whole dollar amount.
I was hit by all 3 that summer, I lost power, I lost work, I lost savings...but..sm
NEVER did my employer in any way imply or threaten or dare even mention that my job was in jeopardy because I could not work immediately following a trifecta of natural disasters! My jaw agape is not at your concern about working, but at your concern that you would lose your job because of it. Companies have to have a heart in some situations. You're one MT, your company won't go under without you working for a week or 2 or 3.
I couldn't agree more. Lost my mom 13 years ago sm
this coming August. I miss her the most on Mother's Day.
You have been going 5 times a week for 2 years and have not lost weight? So..
it's basically more than $300/year for social hour? I've been going for 2 months faithfully and didn't lose an ounce until I went back on Atkins this week. It's nowhere near enough of a workout.
As someone who lost their husband almost 2 years ago, I can tell you that no amount of money could
ever replace my best friend and husband. Yes, I have tried the dating thing, but to tell the truth here, it's not the same and I don't think anyone could ever replace the father my children lost at such an early age.
By the way. he had just turned 34 when he died, so I suppose you might want to give your hubby a big hug tonight for thinking of your future without him, especially when we truly do not see ourselves leaving this world so soon.
Hugs to you and yours!!!
Key word here is VIOLENT. He lost his right to be "committed"
When you get a person (man or woman) who starts exhibiting violent actions, that is not a sign of committment.............it is a sign you need to get away from that person.
It will not get any better. Trust me on this.
Those are usually narsassistic, psychopaths who generally escalate in their violence or erratic behavior. They want their way. They will get their way. And the longer you stay around the more their acting out will become DANGEROUS.
It is usually all about them, they will turn around a situation so it is your fault. You are standing there thinking - This dude just didn't do what he said he would and how did it become my fault? They are past masters at it.
So, remember when he is acting "committed" and stating he WANTS YOU, NEEDS YOU, NEEDS THE KIDS......it isn't them or you he needs or wants, he only wants his WAY. In their lives, that is the goal - not seeing that kids live in a warm and loving home and them giving up some of their creature comforts so the kids or you can have it better --- it will alwAYS be about him. He WANTS, he HAS TO HAVE, ...watch, he will not want to discomfort himself to move out when it comes down to the act of moving. Of course it will be better on the kids, but it will come down to his personal situation. I knew a man for many years, he said he loved me, he bought me wonderful things, the reason we never married --- he didn't want to leave his FIRST EDITION BOOKS. I finally realized he was a sociopath of the first order .....lies rolled of his tongue like water --- I didn't know this until his sister and I began to talk and realized he was telling lots of different stories to different people. He had quelled his violent streak - although I found out later he had been very violent in his earlier years. He suppressed that - but then turned to drinking. If you can get away from these types of people, you are better off. They are a losing proposition.
I've lost a local account today that I have had for five years......
I cannot believe that this happened to me today. I went into one of my doctor's offices this afternoon to pick up his tape for today. I was given a tape and told that his wife, who is the office manager, wanted to see me in her office. I thought nothing of it because she sometimes has extra things that she wants me to type up for her and we talk quite often also.
She tells me that she just has not gotten around to talking with me yet, but "tomorrow we will start dictating through a company over the internet". I was blown away! She said she wanted to give me a break and that if it does not work out she will let me know. The whole time she was tell me this she was writing me a check as I had just turned in an invoice.
My first inclination was to throw that #@%$ tape at her and say "do it yourself", but I knew that wasn't the "professional thing" to do. I was thinking how could she do this to me, not even a 24 hour notice. She handed the check to me, I snatched it and walked out.
I have had this account for five years exactly (began August 1, 2000). I have never took a day off, never raised my rates, never asked anything of them, and my work has always been the best possible quality. I have been the most dependable person they have could had. I have passed up other accounts because of them, and I always put them first. Thank goodness I have other accounts to fall back on. In our town, there is only one other transcriptionist besides myself, and we both have more work than we can handle most of the time.
Just thought I'd remind all those other MTs out there that no matter how good we are and no matter how much we try to please everyone we are still not appreciated. I will never be fooled again. No one will ever receive the attention from me that I gave them.
Help please...typing in Word, hooked up my
C-phone and plugged in my foot pedal. Got the message from computer that foot pedal was detected, but it doesn't control the dictation at all. I haven't used a C-phone in years, and I've never actually set one up. Dictation will work using commands on the C-phone but my foot pedal doesn't work. Is there something I need to do to hook it up to the C-phone? I've been searching for an answer, and I'll keep looking, but I was really hoping someone on here would know. I'd appreciate any and all help please:-)
Lost account of 28 years to Dictaphone because hospital believes it will eliminate all transcription
Curious if any of you are working for Dictaphone or Infomatics and doing an account out of Miami with mainly ESL dictators? I was convinced I would not lose the account after a few days with VR. However Dictaphone is not using VR right away and will transcribe reports the regular way until they have a database. I am certain this hospital will never be done by VR. I posted a job on here about a year ago offering 18 cents per line to help with this account and not one person accepted after hearing the ESL doctors we have. They are that bad. Anyone else have this happen to them? Losing to Dictaphone And we have had to do most of the work for over a month since they supposedly took over because their system is not working.
After years of typing, you can no longer read your own handwriting. nm

Stedmans has it with NO hyphen; that's how I've been typing for years. NM
If you are typing in Word or WP, every character will be counted.
If you are being paid by keystroke, that would be different, like the other poster said.
I once worked for a company that paid per 1,000 characters.
My beginning rate was $1.25/1,000 characters (0.00125/character) which was the same as 0.08/line.
I was gradually raised to $1.85/1,000 characters(0.00185/character)which was the same as 0.12/line.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
I wouldn't like that either. So, you're not typing in Word? sm
If not typing in Word, I wonder if you could copy/paste your work into a Word document to keep track of your line count.
If you can do that, make sure you have your line count set up to do it the same way they do....including lines, spaces, etc.
I recently lost 20 pounds. That means I lost 80 sticks of butter.
Stedmans Med & Surgical Equip words and Tessiers Surgical Word Book (3rd Ed). I'd be lost

Help..I lost my word file. How can I retreive a file that has been changed? sm
I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank. When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you
I doubt your brother has won more than he's lost. To win that much he's probably lost 3 times
So he probably has more bills than money. Otherwise the casinos would go broke.
I switched from WP51 to Word a couple years ago
I chose InstantText as my Expander because it would import my PRD list and that was important to me to make me feel comfortable out the gate. Several of my co-workers didn't really like IT but at the time, it was the one that had the easiest import function and I *had* to have my PRD to type! IT's not cheap, but I think it's well worth the investment.
Also, I highly recommend Laura Bryan's book on Word. There is another lady who is a Word guru, Cheryl something (I'm sorry I can't remember her name at the moment) who is also very good. Basically these are MTs who know you have to keep your hands off that mouse to make money, so they show you the keyboard ways to do things, in contrast to other Word how-to books for the general user which focus on the mouse.
It's a moderately painful switch, in my opinion, but once made, definitely makes one feel more 21st century. :)
Asking you to spell a word correctly after 10 years is being nitpicky? Shame on them..

Alot of time the hospitals have their own at home people. I don't think they would have a list as i worked at one and the girls that actually worked at the hospital picked up the docs on the side.
sorry for your troubles but...every VA Hosp..s/m
every VA hospital and every veteran here in the USA will tell you the same, 6 months to get seen, to get a CAT scan, et al......in THIS country, they treat our vets TERRIBLY!! Not just the vets either - the people who helped during 9/11 and down at Ground Zero are being refused treatment in this country.........
Again, see SICKO........by Michael Moore...whether you like him, his movies, or not.........this one is important!

Transcription includes typing, but so much more.

Millinium RadNet? My Hosp is switching...any help? SM
We currently transcribe in Word from Lanier VoiceWrite and send via VPN. I've been informed we're switching to Cerner Millinium RadNet the first of January. The people inside don't seem too worried and don't know much about this system. Does anyone have a clue for me? I need to know what I'm getting into here. Any and all help will be appreciated ! !
Hosp perdiem interview tomorrow! SM
I'm hoping someone will be able to advise me about some good questions to ask of the HR person of a hospital in my hometown; it's really hard for me to be objective about this decision because I want so much to leave the city where I'm living right now. I go back and forth trying to decide if I should even try this. First of all, this job was advertised as "per diem" -- forgive my ignorance, but would that be the same as a contract position? I had trouble once before making a living doing at-home MTing as an IC and paying my own health and life insurance, as I'm 100% supporting myself. It was certainly a shock after employee status--but I was so burned out at that inhouse job--transcription force cut in half, pay reduced, phasing out dictation in favor of computer templates! I took a chance even though I had an unrealistic belief in my own abilities, I'm afraid, and tried IC for a national company. I'm not working at all right now and am currently living on my savings.
I feel like something, anything would be better than nothing. Some foot/ankle problems also, related to standing at the last clerical job I tried, so a lot of even part-time jobs are out of the question at the present.
I do have some family at home and this hospital has a very good reputation as a good place to work, good (happy) employees...but, of course, don't want to move and still risk getting in an impossible position again! Please let me know of some good questions to ask during the "assessment" and interview Friday AM (tomorrow)! Sorry; realize this is rambling--many thanks--
Same hosp since 1987; changed MTSOs and I followed. nm

Ours do - hosp. is considering having our x-rays done here, but READ in India! (nm)

hosp acute care dictations..please sm
Are hospital dictations difficult to type? I have always typed various specialities for clinics. The company I just started working for lost the account I was hired for. They did offer me a position to type for the hospital dictations. Do you think it will be a rough transition for me? Any advice please! Thanks.
Also, I work a set schedule w/the hosp but the online co
hours are more flexible (because I'm IC status). I took out my own health insurance, so I'm not bound to any company, just in case.
Hosp not right but bottom line was with CIGNA.

Many local hosp and agencies are starting to pay attention
The hospital I work at has started classes and counseling and support groups for adult children who are primary caregivers for elderly adults. If you can find some local social service agencies who have these kinds of programs, many of them can put your mom on some kind of state aid for her health care, help you with paperwork, and provide an occasional "atta girl" and some smiling, supportive faces. Sounds like your sibs aren't there for you. You mom could even qualify for some adult day care, which opens up SO much communication about resources and help. Please think about searching this out. I'm sure your husband and child need you terribly, and you should not bear this financial burden alone. Check with a social services department at a local hospital, and KEEP PUSHING IF YOU DON'T GET IMMEDIATE RESPONSE> Some of these places are so busy. But find and knock and push to find some answers to take the strain off you, and your mom. There are resources out there for you! You aren't alone, but it doesn't get better for you, till you FIND them.
You'll just have to ignore your siblings. They don't sound like they're worth much.
I use ASS for Assessment, and wimp for Impression for one hosp that starts with a "w".
