Yes, if you do it right

Don't let anyone tell you that you CAN'T do anything. It certainly is possible. I started my schooling for MT when I was pregnant, and got my first FT with a national by the time my daughter was 3 months old. It was actually easier to work then than it is now, and that's something you have to consider.
In their early days, they are a little more cooperative, because they sleep a lot, and they spend a lot of time checking out their surroundings and such. The first year is generally pretty easy with them at home, but it depends on their temperament, of course. If your baby needs constant coddling and holding, then it may not be the right timing for you. If, like my daughter, he can lay in a bassinet next to you, or play in a excersaucer thing and stay entertained (when older), then it is perfect.
My problem is that now my daughter is 2, and into everything. My work production is really suffering because she is in the cupboards and refrigerator and everything she can get her hands on. She needs CONSTANT supervision, because she is so feisty. My son was never like that, so now I'm in the predicament of figuring out what to do. My production now is less than it was when I started, and it's due to the distraction.
There are certainly valid arguments on both sides of the fence, but many, many, many people do this job (career!) with their children at home. You have to be organized and disciplined, and you'll have to invest time, money, and energy into the tools to help the child entertain himself, but it is possible...
Just my 2 cents...
