First highlight the text too add, then hit Ctrl+insert+insert..sm
All you need to do then is assign the shortcut name and hit alt+O or click on OK.

Make sure cntr I is enabled in the program
and that you can verify your line count and how many reports you have done. Ask this right up front. If its not enabled and you have to go to the Dictaphone Ichart website then RUN! It always lags a couple of hours behind, sometimes longer. There is no reason for this to be disabled. I worked for a company that disabled this feature, my line counts were more than extremely low. When I asked to verify reports versus lines they made excuses that the headers and footers were not counted and got very nasty with me. I am now working on the Extext program for another company, the headers and footers are not counted here either but I can verify my lines within the program any time I want and # of reports, by simply doing "cntr I" Love the program and the fact that you can pull previously typed reports to use as samples or even copy - like the PE portions into your current report. Make sure this feature is enabled or you are just setting yourself up for huge disappointment.
I checked in Internet Options and it shows enabled.

The way to figure is how many lines an hour do you do. There are 13 lines characters in a line (65 line length)
So say you TRY to average 4 pages an hour say 34 lines a page equal 139 lines, times your line rate.
139 X 4 cents a line = $5.56 an hour
and what if you don't do 4 pages even less.
MTing hourly hourly output is not very predictablel, so ya never know and predict what you can put out each hour.

How do I disable Shorthand for more than
I know Esc stops one entry at a time, but sometimes (and I can't think where at the moment), ShortHand in general works but hitting Esc causes problems and throws me out of my document..
And for instance, if I'm typing here on MT Stars and I don't want Shorthand to work at all, do I have to pull up the Shorthand box and uncheck AutoReplace, or is there a quick keystroke that acts as a toggle?

you also need to open ShortCut BEFORE you open your platform (Word or whatever you are using).

You should disable call-waiting because if you are....
doing a low-speaking doc and have the volume up high, you'll blow your ear drums out. On the other hand, if that is your only line, what if someone from work needs to get in touch with you? As far as losing the job you're working on, it would depend on how the system is set up and whether or not the work is assigned to you or in a pool. I'm not sure if the phone has a "hold" button or not. It's been a while since I used one but I had 2 lines so it wasn't a problem. Good luck.
It is best to disable the call waiting
so you have less interruptions as it can be annoying but I don't think it will mess up the dictation. Also, may want to look into getting voice mail through phone company rather than your own answering machine if you don't already have that so you don't miss any important calls. My set up is such that all unanswered calls go to voice mail.

i thought i remembered seeing on these boards that to hook up a peripheral keyboard to a laptop, you have to disable the laptop one? i cannot find info when i try to search...if so, how do you do it?

Have to disable Norton Internet Sec & Del all Temp files every time, why???
I cannot get the links to stay but I know it has to be due to something in Norton because if I disable Norton Internet Security and then go to Tools, Internet Options, choose General tab, then Temporary Files, Delete Files, Delete all off line content, and hit okay, then I get them back, but they don't stay consistently. :(
Can anyone tell me what needs to be changed/added in Norton's Internet Security to keep the links/forums available in the blue/on the left side??? I have tried everything I can think of. I sure would appreciate your help.

I accidentally hit that from time to time myself. The remedy is just to hit it again to turn it off.
Insert Key
I sometimes end up hitting the insert key when I go for the Backspace key and this causes the text to overwrite. If I just hit it again, it stops overwriting.

Not sure what you mean. If you use the F10 and insert the word, use the Alt, (I think it's T or X) whatever has the little underline in it, then esc. Mouse doesn't have to be used at all. Try it.
My problem is the insert key sm
I use it ALL the time and cannot live without it. Can't figure out how to remap the board right so I can use it. So, it is collecting dust until I have time to play with it more.

You can go to Insert, Break and choose Next page.
I would usually keep a template with the different settings, use the correct one then save it to another file.

Go into Tools, Customize, then click the Keyboard button. Scroll down and click on All Commands in the left window. Scroll down the right window and click on the Overtype command. Click on the command in the current keys box, then click Remove.

You can insert entire paragraphs by easliy using the macro sm
feature.
Tools - macro- record new macro. name the macro box appears ( name it whatever you need to, i.e. Dr. Smith's appendecomy) and then a little box will appear to begining recording it. Type as much or as long of a paragraph as you need. This can be very very long! even pages if you want!!!) then hit the st (telling the macro to stop recording.) Next time you need to pull up that paragraph go into tools again and since you named it you should be able to find it easiy. The macros get stored in alphabetical order.
The macro that you make this way does not record mouse movements, only keyboard movements, but you can have long paragraphs easily inserted right into your document using this.
This is a great place (in macros) to store MDs names and adresses too. Then assign a shortcut key to open the macro box faster and voila! everyone will wonder how you got your work done so fast.

Doctors will not insert whole sentences, what is called 'free type', they do not have time for this.
The easiest way for this one is to insert blank fields with Ctrl + F9. You jump to
each field with F11. You use Shift+F11 if you skip a field and need to go back. If you don't see your fields in the doc, hit Alt+F9 to show or hide fields.
Bookmarks and cross-reference fields are used when you have static information you need to pull into a field. That isn't the case when you are dealing with variable info.
It's something in Word, not ExText. Check your Format/Insert/Tools headings. nm

It's really not a great idea to disable Windows updates. Just because updates are scheduled to be
installed, does not mean 7.0 will be automatically installed on your pc. You will always receive a notification when installing anything other than critical updates, which 7.0 is not.
*70 will disable call waiting unless you are expecting a call and want it on (nm)
