Yes, been through the ovarian cystectomy multiple times. sm
Finally had a hysterectomy last year. If you are having laparoscopy, you will feel good the next day; however, I must tell you, air will get trapped in your diaphragm and you may experience excruciating pain between your shoulder blades for about a day. That has happened to me each time with laparoscopy. The CO2 gets trapped and eventually works its way out. That pain was worse than the surgery itself.

Good luck!
I would suggest setting a date and posting it on here multiple times
before jumping the gun and telling your employer you are not working today. If you really want this to be successful, you will need to rally and get everyone prepared and ready for it. Give us all a little time to get our finances in order so that we can go a month without pay while on strike, know when it is coming, prepare everyone else we know, etc. That will take a couple of months. If you really want success, you have to plan, not just fly by the crotch of your seat.
My tips again -- do a search talked about many times

Just like any other business you have to solicitate to get the accounts, put out flyers, brochures, call on offices or whatever.  Be prepared to pick up and deliery, do tapes or digital.  If they want a call in system, either invest in one or use one of the companies that provide you with an 800 number and charge you by the minute.  -- Very expensive.  All in all you will need to provide what the service you are working for right now provides.  Be prepared to take any and all accounts, no matter how small to get your foot in the door.  Be prepared the first year not to take any time off to prove yourself.  It is not easy but it is worth it to me.  Good luck, again as I have emphasized before you will need to do a lot of mailings, callings, etc. to get that first account.  Heavy traffic is the answer, multiple mailings to the same offices to get them to remember your name, networking with other MTSO's in your area.  But it takes time, energy and perseverance  to get there.   Good luck.

I've had multiple platforms.

Once you land the 2nd job, the tech person should be able to help.

I used "normal" multiple times only because the post I responded to used "normal" as the

By normal I meant NOT sexually perverted, NOT socially inept, NOT desperate, etc.

I also posted later that maybe I misunderstood what the original poster was talking about. I originally thought she meant internet dating in general, but now it seems more like she means married men looking for "friends" online, which is totally different and not at all anything I have any knowledge of.

I have no idea, though, what your comment about "DC" is regarding. I didn't say anything at all about a "DC."

I've done this many times (sm)

My hubby used to travel around the country a lot for his employer and we used to stay in places from anywhere from a few weeks to as long as a year.  We used to just make sure that we stayed at one of the business-friendly hotels, i.e. the ones with high speed internet and a separate work area.  If it's going to be long term, try to get one of the suites if you can, because you'll be surprised at how quickly cabin fever can start to creep in when you're working out of a hotel room.

As far as the C-phone, other than being a pain to lug around with you, just plug it into the hotel's line, but do NOT call out directly.  Most hotels will charge their guests an arm and a leg to make anything but local phone calls.

What I did was to get an account set up with onesuite dot com (very reasonable low cost prepaid minutes), and I would use that to call out with.  Just make sure that your hotel doesn't charge for making 800 number calls, because an 800 number is what onesuite uses.

Many hotels do not charge for outgoing calls to 800 numbers, but be aware that some of them do.  In which case, neither onesuite dot com or a prepaid calling card will work.

All in all, the only real inconvenience of it all was having to dial all of the numbers, PIN numbers, etc., that were associated with using onesuite or a calling card each time I called out to connect up.

If you have any other questions, you can email me if you'd like.

I've done it, many times...sm

I know after 3 days if the job will not work out.  Let's face it hon...we need to make MONEY and if I see the platform is ridiculous, NOT MT friendly and is a waste of my time, poor training, training done by someone who is NOT a MT and has NEVER worked as a MT....HUGE RED FLAG!!!...That means that the company probably just wants "fingers" to type and type and type.....One company who is always hiring on the boards....I gave it a while, and today I was offered a nice position with someone I used to work for!!!!! it is awesome!!! and I quit that other hot mess today.  Good luck!!! Don't feel bad if you quit...hey, we gots to make a living here. with the economy and everything being so bad...you have to look out for number 1 and your family.

I just don't want to subject people here to the information ... again!
I've heard this a few times- maybe you have too

Do you think anyone would ever be on their death bed, surrounded by loved ones and say, "I wish I had spent more time working."  Doubt it.  My kids are grown now, and the good memories for them are the ones I didn't think were so great.  Like the time we lived in an apartment building in the Northeast, had all our Christmas decorations in the storage room in the basement, and someone stole them.  We made all our own that year with aluminum foil covered cardboard and strung popcorn.  Not even any lights, couldn't afford them.  They to this day call that tree their Charlie Brown tree.  That's just one of many "little memories" that may not seem like much when they are happening, but it's the things they remember.

I've used them several times w/o any probs at all. nm

I've had it a couple of times.
Doctor gave me a sheet of exercises to do on my own which just amounted to moving my head and/or eyes around in different positions.  It can be just a horrible thing to have.  Yours is probably worse than mine if you have to "have therapy."
Any job I've been on has used Times New Roman at 12. nm

Yes, I've called many times and they
tell me the same thing, that it is being reviewed. I havent'sent any money because they want the entire amount, and the mtg payment is more than I can afford. I figure I'd best try and save half of that to go toward deposits on apartment and moving truck and such.
What is a TROLL! I've asked many times, no ans.

RE: What is a TROLL! I've asked many times, no ans.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
In internet terminology, a troll is a person who posts inflammatory messages on the internet, such as on online discussion forums, to disrupt the discussion or to upset its participants. The word, or its variant, "trolling", is also used to describe such messages or the act of posting them.

Yes, several times. I've learned to listen to them. (s/m)
A very long time ago, I once had a dream that my dog got hit by a car - the exact time, place, etc. And exactly one week later, to the day, place and hour, she got hit & killed by a car.

Another time I was driving on the freeway, and suddenly in my mind got a very clear picture of a pickup truck on fire. Yet there was no truck on fire where I was, and no smoke or anything. About 10 miles up there road, I came around a bend and there was a truck exactly like the one I'd seen in my "mind-flash", and it was on fire.

Go figure, but yes, I definitely DO go with my hunches and premonitions.

To try to answer your questions.. Whether your foot pedal will work in your laptop depends on the laptop that you buy. When you're looking to buy one, try to find one with the correct kind of port for your pedal.  The one I recently bought doesn't have a serial port, so I bought an adapter at Circuit City that plugs into my USB port, and then I can plug my ergo keyboard and mouse into that.  In any case, your laptop will definitely come with at least a couple USB ports, so you could always buy a USB pedal to use with it if you have to.   As far as the headphones, every laptop I've ever used has had a place to plug in a pair of headphones so that should be no problem. The thing is...if you're going to buy a laptop specifically for this, then look at the ports on the laptops and make sure it has what you need.  I would say if you don't mind buying a USB foot pedal, though, you're not going to have problems because every new laptop will have USB ports, and I'm sure a place for your headphones.

If you're staying in hotels, try to stay in places that have free high speed internet which so many of them have now.  You can plug right into that and work.  If not, I know Verizon has a wireless broadband service now for around $60 a month you could check into.

I hope this helps some.

Hey, I've had them stumble over their OWN name (3 times in 1 report). nm

I've heard people have to try a new food 10 times before they know for sure they won't like it
I heard that somewhere.

I had a SIL who actually SAT on her young children and force-fed them new foods if they refused them at the table. We were appalled, but weirdly, the kids often got up from the floor and happily ate the food they were just force-fed!
I've tried to quit 6 times in the past 6 years but

always went back to it. The longest I've quit was 3 weeks. My mom died from COPD and she had smoked from age 16. She really enjoyed smoking and although we kept trying, couldn't get her to quit until she was on 24 hour oxygen.  She told me if she couldn't enjoy anything in life (smoking), why live. She died 3 months later.

I started smoking at 13...you know, the "try it, you'll like it" phase. We both tried to quit when I was 19 but we only lasted a day. There was only cold turkey then.

I've tried the patch (3 weeks off cigarettes), cold turkey, herbal meds, hynosis (only lasted 5 hours), you name it. I've used all the suggestions possible to no avail.

With a cigarette dangling from my mouth, I told my boys never to start smoking because they'd never be able to quit easily. Two took my advice, one didn't. He also tried to quit smoking but failed. He was on Wellbutrin for it.

My husband started smoking at 8 while working in a coal mine. He quit cold turkey 19 years ago. He was smoking almost 4 packs a day and one day he got so disgusted with it, he  just threw them out the window of the car. Never touched one since and smoke from other people doesn't bother him.

He told me you really have to have the willpower and just get disgusted enough to quit. There's no other way. I guess I just don't have that willpower.

I've tried to go back to the office a number of times and

I never can make the transition.  One consideration is your wardrobe.  You have to start dressing in office attire which is something I don't miss and found irritating when I went back into the office.  I also found that after working at home for as long as I have done it, it's kind of stressful to get out there and try to be social and friendly.  Office politics is another negative.  Offices are very much like high school, very cliquey and filled with gossip.  There is more to working in an office than just doing your job.  At home, it's just me and my PC.  I do the work and I get paid.  In the office, there's you, your PC, the person who shares the desk with you, the person who sits across from you, the person who sits next to you, your supervisor right across the hall, the doctors knowing you by name and seeking you out to complain about their dictation, the constant ringing of phones, chattering of voices.  The people you share office space with, one will always be hot, one will always be cold, one thinks it's too bright and there's a glare on her screen, and one thinks it's too dark.  You can't wear perfume because the girl next to you is allergic...

I could go on...

Amen, and I will add one more thing. If I had a penny for all the times I've heard, "just a ty

Other MTs with multiple sclerosis

Hi,

I am wondering if there are other MTs out there with multiple sclerosis and how they are doing dealing with a chronic illness and working in the MT field.  Also, are you working full-time, part-time, IC?  I have only one year experience but am considering returning to the field.

Thanks,

The key to multiple accounts sm
Most people are intimidated by multiple accounts but think about it, an H&P is an H&P, an OP is an OP and an ESL is an ESL, doesn't matter where it comes from.  You CAN program account specs in your mind for those you get regularly so that the specs come right up along with the dictation.  The exception would be an account that you get maybe once in a blue moon and then anyone would probably have to give their memory a little boost.  With the way work is assigned these days, it is an absolute necessity that anyone who wants to make any money needs to be able to switch from one account to another without missing a beat and it CAN be done.
Does anybody else out there take multiple antidepressants?nm

Any other MTs with multiple sclerosis?

Wondered if there were any other MTs out there with multiple sclerosis.  I am not presently working but considering going back to MT.  Before tried to work for a company that wanted set hours and with the fatigue associated with my MS that was very difficult.

Thank You.

ports for extra printers, etc., and you can switch back and forth from one to the other??  I had several for multiple printers on all computers years ago.  I think that's what they were called.  I can elaborate if on the right track here, if you want.
even with her multiple personalities
you can just tell it is her. She is pretty pathetic. Makes you almost feel sorry for her........NAW!!! She has stepped on too many toes around here to be getting any sympathy.
multiple companies
you mean companies, not accounts, right? I work part time for one, one full day on Monday, a few hours most other mornings and sometimes on Sunday evenings. I work full time for another Tuesday-Saturday afternoon-midnight. Working out for me. I need the extra money.
Multiple Accounts
For those who work for transcription companies, how many different accounts (facilities) do you transcribe?
multiple accounts
So far, 7 but not all dictate heavily or daily.
multiple jobs
I actually have three... All of them are independent contractor positions, one is strictly weekends and overflow.. One i work when there is no work for the other two, and one is full time IC
Can be one specialty or multiple ......

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

This is not true if you have multiple cards. sm
While it's true you need to have lines of credit to show history, NO ONE will tell you to keep open many accounts, because many open accounts represents POTENTIAL debt.
I think OP meant one IC job with multiple clients...
If you are working as an IC at more than one place, you only have one job as an IC but you have more than one client. Tis true.

Same here. Very low on work with multiple accts. nm

multiple personalities (or names)
Yes, it seems she likes to change her name to make it seem like everyone is ganging up on you.......No, you are not losing it, but I sure wish she'd get lost. If we could all just not read or respond to any of her posts, maybe the she'll find it is no longer fun. That is what I try to teach my son. When someone tries to pick on you they are looking for a reaction. If they get it, it intensifies. If they don't, they lose interest. Hard I know, but maybe we can try?
Wow - I think she's wrong. It is an impression whether there are multiple
I didn't find it in my BOS-2E...I don't think you will.

Sounds like you need to get another 1-2 QA opinions and then to the QA manager.
Shorthand on multiple computers
If I buy a copy of Shorthand, how many computers can I put it on?
working for multiple companies
I was wondering if any of you work for multiple accounts, and if so how you manage your time between the two of them.  I have been trying to work on one during the day, and one at night, but its not working very well for me at this point.
I am working for multiple companies
I was working 1 job full time split shift afternoon and back in the evening to 1 a.m. The second job I work around it, either in the morning or third shift. They are pretty flexible.
But now I am in a similar situation. I just took one job split afternoon and overnigt and the other job early afternoon split to evening. I sleep during the mornings and after dinner time when my husband watch the kids. I will manage to get 2 full days off when I go to 2 F/T instead of 1 set and 1 flexible job. It should be interesting. I wish you luck. For me, at least the bill collectors are happy now.
Multiple accounts/templates
I now use InstantText. You can give each account and each doctor in that account their own glossary. You can use includes too for drugs and surgical, for instance. In a glossary you can either "call in" a template or you can put it in there and save the formatting, depends on how you want to do it. The template can include margins, tabs, letterhead, headers, footers, pagination, or whatever you want. Right now I only do about 7 different ones, so I just lumped them up in one (using includes) because I have done them so long that I now remember what is in there.

If you use WordPerfect (5.2 or a newer one, but I like 5.2) it is a snap. You just use PRD (which utilizes function keys) and you store your documents and templates as usual and then you can "open them up" on the fly. I love this. You just put in the path to that document or template once and it is there forever or until you delete it or change it. With PRD you can have multiple glossaries too if your computer can hold them. The key for me with both Expanders was to be consistent with the way I save things. For instance, all the addresses used for an account (which can be many) I store under ad. So, if I want Dr. Harold Smith I type in adsmith and down underneath all the smiths come up and I choose the one I want to use and their I have it - I do two for each -one in standard form and the other like this: SMITH, HAROLD MD, 1111 FIRST AVENUE, ANYPLACE, ANYSTATE 11111. The other in the form for letters and envelopes. I have a drugs glossary, a surgical equipment glossary, and one for each specialty, sometimes a separate one for a specific doctor. I then use the "include" feature and group them up or mostly I now just use them altogether and I think that glossary (my everyday glossary) has about 8,200 entries or something like that. InstantText is wonderful. Try it if you haven't or, if you have, try to learn more of its features.
Having multiple windows open

I mostly use online resources (rather than books) but find that it takes time to (alt+tab) through all the windows when I have a lot of open. ... When I have a lot open, I often accidentally tab right past the one I want (as I am trying to hurry) and go round and round a couple times.

Does anyone know of any other way to utilize the Internet in a more efficient way while working?

Also, I often end up with my sound freezing, etc. which I think is because I don't have enough RAM for everything I am trying to do.  Any info on this?

Thanks so much!!

Question regarding multiple accounts

I work for an MTSO and have multiple accounts with endless dictators.  One of the most frustrating things is the account specifics and all the changes that continually come up.

We have online manuals, but on top of that we get tons of emails with changes for this or that account.  It is almost impossible to keep it all straight.  I will go through spells where I don't get one of two of the accounts for a few weeks, and then when I do I can't remember things or some of the new changes are not ingrained in my head yet.  Even with email search, it is so time consuming to try to find the information while I am working.  Not good for the line count!

Do many of you have this issue too?  How do you handle it?  It drives me totally crazy!!

question regarding multiple accounts
I know exactly what you mean.  I have multiple accounts, but one account specifically constantly changes things.  My line count drops lower every day trying to keep and then, of course, QA has to jump in with their comments. I worked at one business where each client had to use the same account specifics.  Alot easier!!!  It is very frustrating, but the ones who are making the money from us do not seem to care
