In Reply to: Anyone else working today? Am I the only lowly sole with nothing to do until dinner time? - Turkey Day
So just got done with dinner at 5 pm!! But just thankful to have a job at home where I got to spend the day with my daughter, rather than if I would have had to go out to work today, like some people did! Maybe someday I will get the holiday off, but this is second best!

What would you be doing today if you didn't have to work?
I'd be sitting outside in the sunshine reading a book and watching the kids play in the kiddie pool. Hmm, sounds good to me. I wonder how fast I can get this work done. oi!
Just got it today. Just stopped pacing to try to calm down. Didn't work. See inside---
The cover story should be posted on their online site within a month or so for those who do not receive the printed version as well.
Anyone else working today? Am I the only lowly sole with nothing to do until dinner time?
I feel like I am the only on working today, as the Boscov's parade is on TV, my two teens are sleeping, my husband is working OT and here I am working also. Gotta cover my account today, at least until this afternoon, when I have to cook for my little family.
Just wanted to see if anyone else is out there today!
School started here today.....sm
I kissed and hugged my daughter and wished her well as the bus drove off!
HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm
my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away! I checked and the Type It button is grayed out! I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies. Can anyone please help me ASAP? I am lost without it! TIA
Hired by new company and started training today.
Should have trained yesterday, but no one contacted me. So of course, I contacted them. During training today, their foot pedal did not work. When their tech put their software into my computer last week, he said he "fixed it" so that their software would work with my firewall turned on and that my autocorrect would work with their software and I wouldn't have to re-enter 3000 shortcuts. Well, you know the rest. No autocorrect and I cannot access their system with my firewall turned on. Plus I can't work because the foot pedal doesn't function. With all that the MTSOs demand of us, you would think that they should have at least some of their act together, no?
Oh I forgot to mention what actually started our argument today...sm
What started our argument today is his mom and dad have been living in this house, if that is what you can call it, for about 20 years...they never cleaned it or anything (his mom said because "why bother when it is hopeless). Well I don't care how small of a house it is it can still be clean. Well, they come into some money, a few hundred thousand dollars, and they go out and buy this 150k house. They say since we are having a hard time with our payment, being 2 payments behind, then we can "have" their old house. The house is on lease land and the floors are rotted. Well I felt like it would take a load of our shoulders and actually I felt like that was the only way we were going to get out of this mess.. We go down there, begin to clean one day....over 3 HUGE Flex bags by Glad of trash just from their bathroom - filled to the rim!!!! Flexed to the max....
I get back thinking of how bad it would hurt to walk out my door at my house for the last time and go live there. So I said, "NO, I will fight for my house. I will work what hours needs to be worked, etc. I am saving my house." He gets mad, because his parents say we are going to lose it anyhow. But hey - they had all of that money...we only needed $1,000.00 - could they not have lent it to us????? But he thought I was wrong for asking after I told him I WOULD WORK TO GET US CAUGHT UP....I said, "well, if my son EVER needs anything like that, especially something to save his home, I will do what it takes to help him...And surely if I had came into hundreds of thousands of dollars, I think I could spare or lend 1,000.
Sorry...I am hurt.
Didn't see him today..
I noticed on Friday he was really upset. Geraldo showed up on Friday and was immediately losing it. Imagine if he had been there all week like Shep had.
I proof as I go. I didn't when I first started umpteen years ago. nm

Okay, call me weird, when I started I didn't feel...sm
that way. I read about becoming in an MT and I read all 3 books then available on the subject. I found the names of only 2 schools, HPI and At-Home Professions. I found out all I could about them both before making a decision. I didn't go in ill-informed. HPI said right up front that at least 60% of the people who take their course can't do the job, or find it too difficult. My thoughts? It wasn't the program because the advice from those books about a training course was what HPI offered. I felt that what I put into my training would pay off in my successful career. I over studied. I didn't fudge on anything. I wrote out every term 3 times to memorize the spelling (I was a horrid speller then, top notch today). I WORKED for it.
I think that is why I had a good career going pretty fast and by 3 yrs I could make full time money on full time hours. I did a fair amount of job switching and not always for more money, but rather for the experience of the work. I had a plan. I had a goal. That goal was to transcribe OP notes full time. It took about 7 or 8 yrs, but I ACHIEVED IT!
So, after the way I approached this, I make it very clear that it is hard work, that the pay on the face of it isn't great, but hard work and continuous learning will get you there in time.
1:30 pm to 3:00 pm = 980. Didn't start til later today. nm

I didn't assume since that post was on there before I started my shift at noon
...........and this post for help was posted only a couple of hours ago. I couldn't imagine leaving a note up for that long.
But, you are right, ya never know. :)
I went to Subway today and didn't get my stamps. sm
I could not believe it. I asked if I could have my Subway stamps and the clerk said they no longer give them out.
Why? Because somebody sold a whole roll of the stamps on ebay.
Former employee? Gee ya think?
I didn't go into labor until 2.5 weeks later, so it didn't work. Sorry!...nm

the hospital I work for already has started to implement this and lessen our work
I see it every single day... they are going to EMR... meaning the doctors simply use a template already in the computer and check boxes or something... The doctor's office i GO TO actually does this too. This is why it creates tech jobs to create those templates and takes AWAY MT jobs because the doctor is no longer dictating, they are just pushing little buttons or checking boxes straight into the computer.
Personally I still think that is more time than the doc wants to take but whatever, i dont see how generic charts are good, what happened to detailed information...
But this is definitely how i see it going along. Maybe not everywhere, but plenty of places are going to go to this, it's all about saving money now isn't it???
All I know is it caused the company I work for to be unable to do all work due today and the rest
:+
I tried Relacor, it didn't work because I wanted it to work without
my trying to really lose weight, i.e., dieting.
My true belief is that any product will not work unless you TRY yourself. I had 20+ lb loss with Metabolife (sp?) and really felt more energy.
BUT, I truly believe if I don't really try, nothing will work to make me lose weight. Please know, I'm right there with you and wish there were a magic pill that could make the lbs just shed away.
Tell you what the place I work for started
I work for a national doing a hospital here in my town. The hospital told the dictators no more cell phone calls just because of what you are talking about. I remember when they were allowed to use and all the cutting out so big gaps left. It will work if someone in charge puts that in force.
I started work for 1 company this past
year that was really out in the sticks. They had dial-up because they were not close to anything and that was a company!! What I dislike so much about having my DSL is here in Atlanta with Bellsouth you have to have a land phone if you have the DSL. I am hoping with the take over of Bellsouth with AT&T maybe they will give you the fast access without the land. I spend sooo much on something I rarely use but went with another provider here in town and not satisfied with the service so back to MA Bell. I have to have the fastest. I really don’t want to try any others as that switch was sorta nighmarish!!
OUT OF WORK TODAY ALSO
I don't think it matters which office you are out of (below posts) so much as which accounts. I am out of the Denver office and usually have work, but occasionally run out, mostly on weekends, holidays, AND AT THE END OF THE PAY PERIOD. Darn! I knew I would "pay" for taking that 3 hour swimming break in the outdoor pool up at the lake yesterday. Sure was nice though...getting our last "licks" in for the summer!!
I'm sorry, but I can't work today.
Mercury's in retrograde, you know.
Did it work for you today? nm

Who should I work for today? DQS or other?
I'm skeptical about DQS today. I have the option of working for one employer running the DQS platform, or my second job with another company, which is not on DQS.
Any work today?
Since there are no updates from the supervisors, I don't want to log in unless there's a reason. I'm in the south region.
I think the idea of the time for posting re this stuff is a good idea. It's 1:00 PM CST here.
Thanks.
I started MT to gain skills to eventually work....sm
outside my home. I was working another small business from home too and had been home for 13 years total. My MT skills got me a job as a secretary for the Army. My first position didn't pay a lot, but it was still about $3.50 more an hour than I could find anywhere else locally. In August 2006, with promotions etc., I will have had total increases in salary of 45% in two years. My next move is to start taking some college courses (which my employer will pay for) and applying for positions with a more defined career field. Having a hard time figuring out which field, as I have a lot of options/opportunity.
Working from home served a huge purpose, but since DH is also self-employed, my current job adds a lot of security to our family in terms of health/life insurance, retirement, paid vacations, etc. I added up the cost of all my paid benefits vs. paying out of pocket as an independent contractor, and they were worth another 35 - 40% of my salary, which will increase once I start taking college classes.
If you are not looking in the medical field, gear your resume towards your other skills. MTs have a myriad of skills (research, computer, organizational, listening, following instructions, bookkeeping). If you are an independent contractor, you are more than an MT, you are a small business owner, which puts a host of additional skills on your plate. Get creative and look at some on-line resumes in different fields, you will probably be surprised how many skills you have.
When I decided to look for a job, I researched all the highest paying companies/opportunities within the distance I was willing to travel and only applied to those companies. It took about a year and a few interviews, but I eventually got exactly what I was looking for. I still get calls from some of the places I interviewed/applied offering jobs.
would you mind sharing how to get started with this type of work
typing insurance claims? Thanks
I started on Acute care, then went to clinic work, - sm
and then back again. I found clinic work to be more challenging, plus it often included radiology. I think it's more a matter of just getting familiar with each institution's way of doing things, along with new doctors, and getting familiar with a few new terms (which don't we all do every single day, anyway?) than it is one being easier or harder than the other.
I started with 310 minutes of work on Friday night- sm
talk about being tied to the computer all weekend. Have 131 minutes for Monday's work, fun, so have a busy day ahead! I was basically off the last week in December so it is nice to make up for lost wages.
Any other MQers out of work today?
I have been staring at a 'no jobs' screen all day (about 5 1/2 hours so far). I even called the office (Denver). Anyone else out of work? I am going out to check the mail and see if I have a check!! (See below posts.)
anyone running low on work at MQ today
How's work flow going today?
No work with MQ and just checking to see how others are doing with January work flow.
Is Hurricane Dennis affecting anyone's work today?
nm
Here's a funny typo for you. I saw this at work today on a chart.
BUT, you are brilliant. Keep up the good work! You are my hero for today! nm

I wasn't talking about stopping work today. Before we do
how many of us there are. We need to be locating and contacting MTs who don't use MT Stars or other MT boards, and start networking with them. Five or six of us from this board deciding to stop work today isn't going to change anything. We have to get our numbers up, and get all of our collective antennae pointed in the same direction.
Been at home for over a year now and I switched to night shift. I work for a national. Started out
working the night shift and sleeping in shifts during the day. My kids are way older but that doesn't mean they don't interrupt me. Besides, there the phone issue, more interruptions, the dogs bothered me a lot, too. Love them dearly but, oh so spoiled. It was taking me 10 hours to do what I can do in 8 on nights, plus I manage to get more sleep, if you can believe that. I still get supper on the table, vacuum, laundry, etc. So far it is working pretty good, so I think I will put in for permanent night hours for awhile. No sense in working 10 when I can work 8.
Today is different and you cannot fight companies who LEGALLY can offshore work.
So all Americans refuse to buy goods, shop at stores, or work for companies who offshore. That leaves a mess. Do you realize a lot of American companies are actually owned by foreigners? Get real and move into 2005. You are going to spend a lot of time boycotting once you do the research. I doubt you will be able to shop or work at all.
No, not me. I tried it at first, but it didn't work out.
I was in a corner of the living room for a long time. Now I have my own office.
Didn't work for them ... but ....
They were the main caregivers for my dad in his last days. They were wonderful, not only for him, but also for us. They helped him let go, and he died so peacefully. Watching how sweetly they treated him, and explained things to us and answered ANY question we had was above and beyond. We can NEVER thank those folks for all they did.
Good for you, you'll be helping someone who will need you more than you know.
Thanks - tried that one too - didn't work.
That didn't work, either.
I was hoping that would work, but it didn't for me.
???what didn't work.

Sorry. Don't know why it didn't work, (sm)
but I pasted the URLs here. Wish the link boxes worked for me.

Tried that, didn't work...
I'll try again, maybe it's just the site that I'm downloading from.
Didn't work .......
Thanks for responding to my question. Apparently I must be using an old version of Meditech b/c it doesn't have that RTF option
Oh well, it didn't work...
I typed a short report in Word and tried to copy and paste into Meditech document, but it did not work
Didn't work but .. you
are so sweet! Researching it for me?? I should be doing that.
Actually I tried the help area but that didn't seem to help me either, although i'm certainly no whiz at Word!
Thanks so much!
didn't work for me
I tried doing it this way but found that I WAS working later every day and that just didn't fly with the hubby/kids. Now I do it just as if I had to go to work "outside"...get up at a specific time, shower/dress/coffee, then make sure I'm sitting at my desk by a specific time, scheduled lunch and 15 minutes breaks every 2 hours. That's the only way I get anything done but I also have a 4yo at home with me so I make sure that he has plenty of activities to do sitting at his "desk" next to me.
I did and it didn't work out well for me
but I want to say right away that I wouldn't want to deter anyone else from trying it. I tried to keep a full time job as well as a part time IC job and still homeschool my daughter. She had been in public school and we took her out for 2nd grade last year to homeschool. I used the Calvert curriculum which laid everything out for me each day, but I still found it difficult. I was worried about her having time with kids and getting out of the house sometimes, and the homeschool group we joined was just not very active. I had her in Brownies, dance, and swimming, and between trying to work full time plus, get her to and from all of her activities, and get the schooling in, it was just difficult for me. DH didn't really contribute too much other than sort of grilling me on what we got accomplished each day, so that didn't help. Also, while my daughter and I have a very close relationship (She was born when my older two kids were 16 and 13), we ended up clashing so much. She wouldn't read for me. She'd mumble the words under her breath as she read. It got to be a standoff each and every day. We just got so frustrated with each other. Plus, I would get behind on work and then have to start pushing back getting some of the schoolwork done, and then we'd get behind, and honestly it just got to be a mess.
Well, I could go on and on. I do want to say I loved having her with me each day in spite of the problems we had sometimes. We had a terrible winter in Wisconsin and it was so nice not to have to go out each day. I think it just wasn't a good fit for our family.
So, this year she is back in school but in a private, very small parochial school just 2 blocks from home. There are only 6 kids (all girls!) in her class, but they also do some things combined with the 2nd grade, which has 7 kids. She is having a great year so far, really thriving in that environment, and I kind of like that it's got a homeschool/co-op type feel with the small amount of kids and individualized attention that is possible with that.
Also, after school started, I started a run/walk program and in the last 2 months have worked up to being able to run 3 miles a few times a week. I'm not really a "me" time type of person either, but it's been nice to take a few hours a week and get out of the house and just do something by myself. I couldn't do that at all last year, partly because of homeschooling and partly because my DH is gone so much doing his own thing.
So in the end, I give so much credit to those that can work and homeschool... or heck, even those that homeschool and don't do other work besides everything we do as wives/moms. It's takes a stronger, better organized person than me to do it, that's for sure.
I did at first but it didn't work out that way...
I actually had gone to nursing school but that wasn't for me but I wanted to stay in the medical field...I just so happened to be pregnant with my first child when I was going through MT school so naturally I wanted to stay home...but I got a job in an office and worked there for almost 5 years before working at home...been at home for almost 5 years now...and my daughter, who is 2-1/2, is home with me now during the day until she starts preschool in the fall...and of course my son, who is 10, is in school...it is hard at times but it works for my family.
Didn't work nm
