Yeah beware..Chronicle Transcripts pays by this method.

I worked there briefly and the platform was awful, and what was worse is that you'd do a whole page of dictation and it came to like 30 lines. Totally felt ripped off.

I agree with checking out Chronicle Transcripts..They hire newbies.  I worked for them in the 1990's as a lead transcriptionist and the owners are great super nice people..Every day we laughed and, of course, worked (smile).  Even though you are new, you still need to be trained in working in a real job of transcription and they will do it for you.  I can remember at least five people they hired and trained when I worked there.
Chronicle Transcripts....
does not offshore.
Chronicle Transcripts, I think

Chronicle Transcripts
Can anyone give me some information on Chronicle Transcripts in California and how they are to work for?  Thank you!
Did you try Chronicle Transcripts on the jobs board? Or go to mtjobs.com. Lots of CA companies. nm
.
Yeah, I use the ABCZ method too. Didn't know that was what it was called.

You are right, the normal function is when you highlight your text and then higt ctrl+y and a little window pops up asking for a description and an abbreviation.  For the description, I always start with my initials and a dash and then the actual description.  That way all my normals are grouped together in the list and I don't have to sort through everybody elses to get to mine.

VR pays half of what typing pays...
If you would read her post more closely she said she does VR, which pays half of what straight typing does.  I do VR and have made 4 cpl, so 5 is actually good and 4-5 is an industry standard, and may be even less if you are an employee.  The problem is that you have to double your line counts in order to make decent money, which is not always easy.  I embrace VR because I like it better than straight typing, but it is not productive for everyone, no matter how hard you try.

About 9 months ago I was hired for a rad position, got my computer set up, etc. and then the day before I was to start, they called and said they did not think they would have enough work to keep me busy.??????
anyone used Chronicle as a TASP
Any feedback is appreciated as our hospital is interested in using them for server management.
SF Chronicle article
regarding what can happen with off-shoring. A friend who runs a local MTSO posted this article on her website. She herself had to get a job at the hospital as a transcription supervisor when she lost her largest account to --you guessed it-- India.

Chronicle - Apex platform
Anybody else having difficult with this platform?  I am new to the company and think everyone has been very nice and helpful and I think i would like my account but I just absolutely and without a doubt HATE this platform.  I don't think it is Transcriptionist friendly or production enhancing in the least.
You are absolutely right. They want OLD transcripts,
they already have the originals, what are they thinking! Good for you!!!
take note - the reason for transcripts also - sm
Sometimes these can be used in court hearings or depositions or quoted on later programs. So they use the transcript for this reason also.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, even HBO Thursday night sex shows are transcribed!!!
LOL, you mean the post about the *shotty* transcripts! LOL!
x
No, it is EDITING court transcripts

After the court reporter translates his/her steno there are usually mistranslates and untranslates.  Reporters are so swamped, they don't have the time to do it themselves, so they use scopists.  There are good reporters and there are really bad reporters.  I know there are schools out there, but reporters and their scopists are usually pretty 'tight' and a reporter will want an experienced scopist, because the reporter has to certify the finished transcript.  So you HAVE to know what you're doing. Most scopists are ex-reporters and scopists work as ICs.  This work is not as easy as it sounds.  There are times I've had to stay up all night scoping a 200 page transcript that was needed by 8am next day - and I didn't get it until nearly 9pm.  A transcript is a verbatim re-creation of human speech.  Think about the way people talk and try putting that on paper.  Most transcripts have audio attached or sometimes video.  You have to get every stutter, stammer, bad grammer and bad word. There is usually a lot "butting-in" and people talking over each other - you have to get that correct.  The editing software is expensive and can be tough for some people to learn. The reporter you work with may have a different software than you have so you have to know how to convert the files.  You have to know how to help the reporter build her dictionary, plus different reporters may have different formating preferences.  But the normal TAT is days instead of hours, double to triple pay if it's an expedite (next day), the lines are double spaced and no more 65-character lines - a line is a line even if the only word is 'Yes' (you get paid by the page).  And this work will NEVER be offshored. You can work your rear off for two or three weeks and have very little to nothing for the next week or two. Due to a shortage of reporters, some shorter hearings are digitally taped then put to CD and given to a reporter who gives it to the scopist to transcribe (if the reporter had time to do it she'd be in the court room in the first place, right?).  So it HAS to be correct (did he say I-I-I three times or four?) but you get paid triple.  And you think medical reports can be graphic?  You ain't heard nothing, yet.  Try listening to a murder or rape case - especially when a child is involved.

Fortunately, I had a mentor scopist (35 years experience) that taught me well.  I worked with her for a long time before she felt I was good enough to go out on my own.  Word of mouth has given me more business and I only do MT 1 or 2 days a week now, but that will be ending completely soon. Less stress, more money and more time to myself. The online schools make it sound easy, but it isn't.  Scoping is not for everyone and it can be tough to get your foot in the door.   If you are comfortable with MT, stay with it.

Transcripts from Glenn Beck
There is so much more than just the video of How not to Hire Americans - the first half of the show blew me away

Aired June 26, 2007 - 19:00:00 ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
GLENN BECK, HOST (voice-over): Tonight the immigration bill revived.

TONY SNOW, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: We`re certainly happy that the motion of proceeding is passed.

BECK: I`ll tell you what`s next for the bill that just will not die.

Plus, a traffic stop turns deadly. Reigniting the debate over gun control.

And Paris liberated yet again. She`s finally out of the slammer, but does this look like rehabilitation?

All this and more tonight.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: Hello, America.

Today Congress voted on whether or not to continue on that immigration reform bill, and here`s how it played out.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP. PETER HOEKSTRA (R), MICHIGAN: The conference voted this morning to proceed with debate on the Hoekstra resolution and not table it. If we would have tabled it, we would not have had any additional debate, and we would not have had the vote on the content of the resolution.

The conference clearly wants to have a discussion and a fair debate within the conference. They did want to have the vote.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: These guys are amazing. In the words of today`s disaffected youth, whatever. This bill is like the terminator, man. It just won`t die.

Here`s the point tonight. It doesn`t matter which way this vote went down today, because Congress will find a way to get its provisions through by any means necessary, usually by inserting them into other bills that don`t have anything to do with immigration.

Sadly, that approach has become politics as usual. Remember the funding for the spinach growers that they -- they tried to shoehorn into the Iraq emergency funding bill?

Let me give you another example. How about one that has a little flavor of south of the border?

The Bush administration proceeded with a pilot program that would give Mexican trucking companies full access to all U.S. roads. Now, as it stands now, Mexican trucks can enter only at certain points along the U.S. border and can only hold goods about 70 miles into the United States.

Certain members of Congress and the Department of Transportation have a little problem with the all access plan of the White House. So what did the White House do? Did they seek a compromise or amend their plan? Of course not.

Instead they just got enough of their program included into the Iraq war supplemental spending bill that was signed into law just last month while all of us were paying attention to spinach.

Don`t let anybody tell you that this is just a past due piece of NAFTA. Nothing to worry about. Do you know who the first people were to buy trucking companies along the southern border once NAFTA went through to take advantage of this loophole? Drug cartels. Look it up.

Nice work, George.

So tonight here`s what you need to know. Politics is a sneaky little business played by sneaky little men who all -- all of the angles are all played and they`re all covered by these guys. Congress is a lot like "The Sopranos", except with worse dialogue.

Like the saying goes, if you like sausage and the law, you probably don`t want to watch either one of them being made.

Representative Ted Poe is a Republican from Texas. Congressman, I just can`t believe -- I can`t believe that the weasels in Congress suddenly find a spine on something everybody in the country is against.

REP. TED POE (R), TEXAS: It`s amazing. You are correct. You know, the will of the American people is against this amnesty bill, but, yet, it keeps resurrecting its ugly head. It`s called everything else but amnesty.

Most Americans are against it. Congress needs to get the point.

DOBBS: Yes. Well, they`re not...

POE: Leave it alone.

DOBBS: Congressman, you know it and I know it. They`re not going to get the point. It`s exactly like this trucking thing. This trucking thing is back for safety. It`s bad for our environment.

Are you kidding me? You`re going to have Mexican truckers, who may not even -- may not even be able to read road signs. God knows what they`ve put in the back of these trucks. Drug cartels own these trucking companies, and we`re just shoehorning this in, in the middle of the night?

POE: No question about it. The administration wants to move forward with it. The House has passed legislation. It hadn`t gone to the Senate yet. Stopping this until the Transportation Department answers some questions. That`s being ignored by the Transportation Department.

We`re concerned about safety. We`re concerned about the environment. And as you said, we`re concerned about drivers coming from Mexico that can`t even read a sign. And of course, this deal is not reciprocal.

In other words, American trucks won`t be allowed to go into Mexico. It`s a one-way deal for Mexico.

DOBBS: We`re getting -- I`m telling you, Congressman. We`re getting the shaft. I talked to -- on the radio program today, I talked to a woman who lives down in Texas. She said, "My land is about to be taken for this NAFTA super highway." I think there`s a two-year reprieve on this.

She said, "I could lose my land on this NAFTA super highway, and I can`t get anybody to even go on record about that."

What are they calling it now? They`re not calling it the NAFTA super highway. They`re calling it the corridor, the Texas Corridor Highway?

POE: The Texas corridor. That`s what it`s being called now.

DOBBS: Yes.

POE: But that`s what it is. It`s a big land grab by the federal government to have a highway all the way through the United States from Mexico to Canada, and then when you talk to the Transportation Department, they deny this thing ever exists.

DOBBS: You can find the plans on the internet. I mean, it`s amazing. How stupi* do they think we are? It doesn`t -- this doesn`t make sense to anyone in the country. Everybody is starting to ask questions.

Wait a minute. We can`t get these guys to pass common sense legislation. They don`t have a spine. They`re weasels and everything. And yet, all of a sudden they will not relent on this legislation when both Republicans, conservatives, liberals, and Democrats are all saying we don`t want this legislation. We know something is up.

POE: No question about it. This is bipartisan opposed to this super NAFTA highway. It`s going to be run by foreign governments. It`s going to be a toll road. Everything about it is bad for the American public.

Congress is really opposed to it, but, once again, it`s going to happen.

BECK: Congressman, thank you very much.

Buckle up, America. Here it comes.

If you think Congress is slippery at making the law, let`s shift gears here. Let`s look at the lawyers and the consultants who are even worse when it comes to skirting the laws that are already in place that nobody is enforcing.

Recently, a video appeared on YouTube -- oh, how did we survive without YouTube -- that shows a seminar being led by Cohen and Grigsby. This is a Pittsburgh law firm that offers counseling to businesses on how to avoid the messy practice of hiring American workers and rigging the system so they can hire cheaper immigrant labor. Watch this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Our goal here, of course, is to meet the requirements, No. 1, but, also, do so as inexpensively as possible, keeping in mind our goal.

And our goal is clearly not to find a qualified and interested U.S. worker. Our objective is to get this person a green card and to get through the labor certification process.

So certainly we are not going try to find the place where the applicants are going to be most numerous. We`re going to try to find a place where, again, we`re complying with the law and hoping, and likely, not to find qualified and interested worker applicants.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Where is the outrage, America? This is unbelievable. This is not a conspiracy. They`re out in the open.

Joining me now is Jack Shea, president of Allegheny County Labor Council.

Jack, first of all, these guys are not breaking the law. They`re absolutely within their right of everything that they said, right?

JACK SHEA, ALLEGHENY COUNTY LABOR COUNCIL, AFL-CIO: Well, they`re breaking the moral law. Let`s face it.

BECK: The spirit of the law.

SHEA: They`re disqualifying. That`s what they`re doing. Skilled workers to be able to find employment.

Now, let`s face it, the middle class has eroded. You know it, and I know it, and we have to -- all are struggling to try to maintain the middle class.

Now all of a sudden this thing shows up on YouTube, and guess what? This is their seventh annual immigration seminar.

And I just happen to wonder how many people, not only in Pittsburgh and other parts of this country, who were qualified to get good paying, skilled jobs were disqualified on account of all these maneuvers and all these -- and this is something the Department of Labor ought to look into.

Before any immigration bill or anything is passed, we got to find out.

DOBBS: I -- Jack, where are the -- where are the congressmen that used to stand up, I`m fighting so we`re not outsourcing? Let me tell you something, outsourcing jobs is a dream come true at this point.

At least the people in India are not also taking our services, Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid and our hospitals.

SHEA: Well, it seems to me that it`s got a little too expensive, maybe, for some of these corporations to ship our jobs overseas, so now what they want to do bring is cheap labor to America and get the work done as cheaply as possible.

Let`s not kid each other, OK? It`s this simple. If we all stand up and be against this stuff and don`t get the stuff investigated, it`s going to continue, and we`re not going to know about it.

I am just glad that whoever invented that small camera that nobody knows where it`s at can be anywhere, and they better watch themselves.

BECK: I`ve got to tell you, it`s my understanding that this company put this up themselves on the web site. This is not a hidden camera scenario. They filmed this thing. They`re not ashamed of this. This company, as far as I understand...

SHEA: Well, they took it off. Glenn -- Glenn, they took it off. They took it off, I understand.

BECK: Of course, they did.

SHEA: Because of the outrage. It`s not right. It`s not fair to the worker. And let`s face it, when we start losing three million manufacturing jobs in this country, now what we want to do is -- we want our folks -- we want our folks to just start over again. And we get them to get skilled work, and look what happens.

BECK: Well, I`ll tell you. One job many Americans seem like they don`t have a problem doing at all, and that`s screwing America over.

Jack, thanks a lot.

SHEA: OK, Glenn.

I believe fantastic transcripts only hires locals - sm
But I am not sure. If that is the company out in Burbank/LA - I thought they only hire within 30 minutes of the area. I could be wrong.
Beware!
I ended up with back problems because of it.  No good!  I force myself not to these days.
But Beware!
I am just now taking a "desperate" client through the process of going to digital. It is very simple and easy for most offices to go digital but if they want transcription yesterday because it is piling up and don't know where the "on" button is on a computer, it can be a nightmare. Two weeks later and I still don't know if I really have a new account because she still can't figure out how to transfer the files from the recorder to the computer. Argh!
BEWARE!!
I'm not a negative MT. Most of the companies I've worked for were either great or ok. Some were fine, they just didn't work for me. I've only had really bad experiences with Medscribe, and Toth. TOTH TRANSCRIPTION IS BY FAR THE WORST COMPANY OUT THERE!!! This man threatened me when I told him I would not type any more until I received the month's wages he owed me. He threatened to sue me and physically hurt me. Whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN AND THIS COMPANY!! They pay slave wages anyway, if you're lucky enough to be paid at all.
Beware of Bytescribe
Just a head ups about Bytescribe.  While the program itself is great, beware that it can only be reinstalled 3 times even on the same computer.  So, if you are unlucky enough to have to replace or reformat your computer, your Bytescribe program will no longer be of any use to you after your third instillation.  They will be happy to send you an unlimited license for an extra 109.00 after the fact!  Isn't that nice of them?  This information is not given to you until after you have made the purchase during the registration process.  I am now stuck with a several hundred dollar program that is useless.  I hope I can spare someone from wasting so much money.  I wish I would have been warned about this beforehand.

Beware Bytescribe

From register@bytescribe.com

"Our registration process is necessary because we sell foot pedals separately and because we deal with International markets.

In the registration agreement it states that the software can be installed up to 3 times.

We would like to keep you as a satisfied customer but we do have guidelines set by our company."

Beware Bytescribe

Yes, I have been trying to resolve this issue with them since yesterday.  They are not budging and I refuse to pay another 109.00.  I'm not sure if they just started it.  My software was purchased along with a pedal and headset about a year and a half ago.  I actually have the disk here at home.  In any case, I've filed a complaint about them to the BBB.  I'm not telling anyone not to buy it, I just want everyone to be aware of what you are really getting.  Had I known I could only install it 3 times (even on the same computer) I would not have bought it.

Beware new companies
I have heard many horror stories like this one. IMHO, the reason this happens is that there are people out there who are not experienced in MT who think if they hang up a shingle they can call themselves professionals. Many enterprises even now are operating by the seat of their pants because they don't know the biz. Stick with companies who know their stuff and who don't mind giving you the names of transcriptionists who have been with them at least 5 years and are happy. Just my $.02 worth.
Beware - this is MY opinion
I would much rather NOT have my house RUINED by a pet. Either get rid of it or take it to an excellent vet.

There is nothing worse than walking into someone's home and having the smell of urine be so overwhelming it is nauseating.

My husband is in the construction business and runs into that scenario way too often. Seriously, it ruins your home!!!! You may not smell it because you breathe it all day long, every day. For an outsider, it is disgusting.

I am a pet lover, but honestly, once a pet goes so much in your home, that is their pattern and they may NEVER stop doing it.
Beware, you may not have 24/7 911 service. sm

In my area, Central FL, a little girl died because her parents had Vonage and did not read the fine print that indicated 911 service was only during normal business hours and that you have to take other action if you need emergency assistance during off hours. The parents just kept trying and trying, instead of using a neighbor's phone, etc., and so care was delayed and their daughter died. So, if you get it, read all of the fine print.

Hughesnet is NOT down but beware
their customer service STINKS  big-time.  But, hey, if you live in the wilds like I do, with no cable or DSL - what choice do you have?  Never heard of Wildblue - it must be a small starter company.
newbies beware

TO ALL NEWBIES, AND STAY AT HOME MOMS:>>DO NOT CONSIDER EVEN THINKING ABOUT THIS ON-POINT MTS.....THEY PREY ON PEOPLE OF INNOCENCE AND MORAL CHARACTER.  THEY WILL NEVER PAY YOU.  THERE ARE 34+ PEOPLE VICTIMIZED.  THE STATE OF WISCONSIN, THE POLICE, AND VARIOUS INTERSTATE ATTORNEYS ARE ALL AWARE OF BAWNIE BARTLETT THE OWNER OF ON-POINT MTS.  REMEMBER THE NAME, BAWNIE BARTLETT, ON-POINT MTS.  UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING VICTIMIZED, AND TRANSCRIBING FOR FREE DO NOT THINK ABOUT WORKING FOR THIS CRAZY B----.

beware of medigrafix, inc.
I see my old very temporary employer Medigrafix has posted an ad for help on here and I wanted to let all you MT's know that the person you send the email to you is not a nice person to work for from day one she was negative to me and talked down to me!  Don't bother plus they expect perfection on day one.  The software/platform is impossible to work with also!  don't bother working for them unless you want to be treated badly from day one on.  Trust me it is not the way to work and it will make you not want to work when treated badly like this!
Beware of agoraphobia
developing over time.  You will start procrastinating going after groceries, leaving the house, not wanting to go places.  Anxiety can set in.  Make sure you get out and have a life.

Listen up, Bozo! Don't you have stains you need removed?

Oh that's right, your hemorrhoids bled all over your carpet and now you are mad at us. We didn't do it, your hemorrhoids did!

Get a grip and go stop your bleeding hemorrhoids, and for pitty sakes, clean up your chair - it's full of blood!
This is just way to insane. Hunters beware. sm
Our "esteemed" governor has just passed on something new for deer hunters.  I am not a hunter and neither are any people on my side of the family or my husband's side. However,  Maine is just plum full of avid deer hunters.  The deer hunting season runs from the end of October through the weekend after Thanksgiving for firearms (bow and arrow hunting starts a month earlier).

Over a decade ago, because of the supposed "dwindling deer population" Maine adopted a "bucks only" law where hunters could only shoot male deer with an antler length of 4 inches or more, but were not allowed to shoot females.

Now wait, this gets better. . . .

A few years back, the grand old State of Maine began to hold a "lottery," so to speak,  to issue "Any Deer Permits" for hunters so that they can shoot female deer or not have to determine antler length for whatever deer they happen to get within shooting range of.  This "Any Deer Permit" system is only the "luck" of the draw.

Now here is the new and wonderful thing that our governor just passed, and I am NOT kidding:

Any deer hunter that reaches the age of 100 (yes 100) can shoot at any deer without possessing an "Any Deer Permit."

100 years old in the woods with a firearm?  Now THAT is a comforting thought.

Beware of computer virus.

I got this email from a friend today and thought I would share it with you all.

*Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent, and the moment that you open these emails your computer will crash, and you will not be able to fix it!!!

This e-mail is being distributed through countries around the globe, but mainly in theUS and Israel.

Don't be inconsiderate; send this warning to whomever you know.

Confirmed at: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/osama.asp

Origins: There are few headlines that would grab the attention of more computer users around the world than Osama bin Laden Captured, and that's exactly what whoever created this lure was counting on to snare unsuspecting victims who use Microsoft platforms.

Osama bin Laden Captured isn't a virus in itself; it's the text of a message that includes a link to a file called EXPLOIT.EXE. When a message recipient clicks on this link to view what he thinks are pictures of Osama bin Laden's capture, he can end up downloading an executable Trojan known as Backdoor-AZU, BKDR_LARSLP.A, Download. Trojan, TrojanProxy.Win32.Small.b,or Win32.Slarp.

Clicking the embedded link in the Osama bin Laden Captured message auto-executes a file called EXPLOIT.EXE, which exploits a known security hole to download the Trojan.

According to McAfee Security:   The Trojan opens a random port on the victim's machine. It sends the Port information to a webpage at IP address 66.139.77.145. The Trojan listens on the open port for instructions and redirects traffic to other IP addresses.

Spammers and hackers can take advantage of compromised systems by using the infected computer as a middleman, allowing them to pass information through it and remain anonymous.*

Beware of new e-mail worm!

I just read an article regarding a new e-mail worm that is showing up. Hopefully, we can all be aware of it before it presents itself to us.

The article was at: http://forum.sitefever.com/viewtopic.php?id=38.

beware of "settling" an account

When you settle an account with a credit card company for a specified amount, i.e. you own $9,000  and they settle for half of that amount, one of two things can happen.  They will sell that other $4500 to another collection agency who will attempt to get it from you even though you settled with #1.  Or they will give you a 1099-C cancellation of debt and you have to include whatever amount that they cancel on your account as "income" just like you would if you were an I/C and got a 1099 and then pay income tax on it.   So watch out for those two things when settling with a credit card company, search it out entirely.  The only way these can be avoided is with a Chapter 13 -- and I do speak from experience, not just spouting words and it is not just something I have not personally experienced.

beware of companies who ask for money (sm)

Beware of Antivirus 2009

While working late at night, I had something pop up that I thought was a MS product called Antivirus 2009, and thinking it was an update on their security, without checking it out, I clicked ok, then at the end, it states it costs $59...and I realized that it was not MS, so I backed out of it.  I currently have AVG 8.0 and it has always done a good job for me...but now after several days and asking several different places, plus the Internet, I cannot get rid of this.  It seems to be tied into my Google site, the one I use so much.

Does anyone know how you get rid of it?  I removed the software (or so I thought) from my program) but it is blocking Google, and just keeps popping up constantly...driving me absolutely nuts.

Does anyone know of a solution to get rid of this?  I hate to pay a techie to come out to my house to get rid of this, but I will if I have to...just thought I would ask here first.

Thank you for your help.

Beware of Antivirus 2009
AVG is great and not a resource "hog' like McAfee or Norton -- I have had computer problems in the past, and have dealt with Hiwired.com -- they are inexpensive, ALL USA-based techs and great people to work with -- they understand the MT and if you need a progam completely erased and you tell them as such, they will do it -- I had a problem a couple of weeks ago with Adobe and could NOT get files to load that were in that format -- they got it cleared up and no problems but almost every "tekkie" person including them, that I have talked to has recommended AVG
BEWARE Andrea Renner is no pay

Andrea Renner from Columbus Grove, Ohio paid me in November but not in December and January.  BEWARE of her.  She is a crook.  I hope no one else had such a bad experience with this criminal.

It all depends on what method your

potential clients use.  If you solicit someone that still uses tapes you need to be sure you have the equipment for that, etc.    I don't know if maybe someone has a sample of a solicitation letter to give you an idea of what to send out to potential clients.

Your method of proofreading? -- SM
I feel like I'm pretty slow on my lph because I might spend too much time proofing. Sometimes I proof each section before starting the next. Sometimes I just do the whole report and then go back and proofread in one shot.

Is there a best way? I don't dare skip proofing because about once per report I do find that I left out a word or did something similar, and I wouldn't want it to go through like that...so I know I need to invest the time.

What are your tips to speed up???
My method, nothing special...sm
I like to look at the previous line I typed as I go, just to make sure. At the end of the report, I go up to the top of the report, glossing over to catch anything else that might not have caught my eye the first time. I feel better about it when I send it off. My expansions have gotten me in trouble before so want to make sure I don't see anything strange. I think that's what makes us specialists, not just typists:-)
ooh this is fun... my method for acronyms sm
I'm jumping in; hope you don't mind :-)

cad = CAD
cadd = coronary artery disease

and so forth.

However, I use Instant Text, so I'm phasing the following in...

cad (not activated through Instant Text) = CAD (in Word Autocorrect)

cad (in Instant Text) = coronary artery disease

I like both ways.

But I'm an efficiency junkie and probably spend so much time trying to BE efficient that I may very well get less work done LOL.
VBC - my new typing method

After a 27.5-minute ESL dictation that took me an hour to type and netted me $12, I'm going to embrace the new visible black character counting method by redefining  "verbatim."  Here's a transcript the way it will look in the future ....

"... I mean, no go back, delete that, okay and the admitting diagnosis was uh ... sepsis, number 2,  ... no, number 1,  no that is number 2 ... change in mental status.  (flip pages flip pages flip pages ... put phone down) Number 4 ... diabetes.  Long pause (... the nurses are talking about a baby shower).  Go back up to the labs and insert a chest x-ray with left lower lobe infiltrate ... no, it's normal.  Now, go back down ..."

Can't wait for that next check!

Why do you call that a new method?
After all the dictionary definition of verbatim is "word for word" and we should all take that seriously.  If they want verbatim we should give it to them, and see how long that demand continues.
Or it may be abz method. Really tired. Maybe

BEWARE DELL COMPUTER CORP!

Computer under warranty and the modem went bad.  Called tech support and I told them the modem was bad (I am not a computer idiot), but went through everything with them anyway.  Of course, they could not help and stated that I had to go through software support before I could be sent a new modem under the warranty.  The first thing you get in software support is a salesperson.  I told her this was NOT a software problem but I had been told I had to go through software support before I could get a new modem.  It cost me $54.23 for a one-time software support problem.  Before I did this, I asked her if I would receive a refund if this was determined not to be a software problem, which I already knew it wasn't.  She said,'YES, just call this phone number back and give us your case number and we will issue a refund'.  So like an idiot, and because I happen to trust people, I paid. I called them right back to advise that software support determined I needed a new modem and to please issue a refund."OKAY - we will issue a refund' the girl says.  Now after 2 months I still have not received a refund and the 'refund supervisor' tells me they cannot issue one because I did receive software support.  She says they will 'counsel' the girl that lied to me.  I told her I never would have gone through software support if I had know that, and if I had not been LIED to, because the new modem only cost $14 if I had purchased it outright so why would I pay $54 to get a free $14 part????  DELL LIES!  They just lost my business.  I can afford the $54, but it is the principle of the thing.  I hate the way big corporations can lie to you and get away with it.  My grandfather owned a small grocery store.  If someone called to ask the price of ground beef and an employee told them a price that was lower than the actual price, he would have sold it to that customer for that amount.  He would not have said,'Sorry but you have to pay the correct price and I will COUNSEL the employee'.  WHATEVER HAPPENED TO COMMON DECENCY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE????

Geez. It's a method to be more accountable for
a minimum amount of work.
There is a method to their so-called madness JMO
Regarding send back to pool: It's a Band-Aid for now. MTs who can't cut it ESL or otherwise do not have a future with MQ for much longer. I posted this below, but with the progression of VR and MTs who can and will do the hard guys, they might not need the cherrypickers eventually (excluding VR, of course!).

Regarding paying more for ESLs with blank limits: Good ESL MTs most likely are being compensated and the blanks they leave are probably very justified. Therefore, it makes financial and TAT sense that the good MTs do difficult dictators (less QA time) and good dictators go to VR/MEs. So what we are left with is MTs who can do anything and VR MEs (same pool).

Cherrypickers have no future in this company. The old-fashioned MT may not either, but we will be around at least a little longer than they will. :-)
Method of obtaining accounts

Hi all...I currently have a couple accounts of my own but I'm looking for maybe two or three more.  I'm wondering what the best method is to go about finding them.

In the past I have tried just driving around to different clinics and walking in to talk with the staff, but the person at the front always seemed annoyed and not very receptive.  I've also tried calling clinics out of the phone book, but they never want to put you on to the office manager and they usually just say they don't need any transcription.  Once I also tried doing a mailing and I sent out about 100 letters with business cards to offices around town.  I only got one reply back and that account didn't work out for me.  I'm wondering if the office managers even GET the letters or if they just throw them in the trash without reading them thinking it's junk mail.

So...for you all with your own accounts....how do you go about getting them?  What have you found is the best approach?  Thanks in advance
