YES, it's true, funding for schooling to replace outsourced jobs...sm

my husband is a machinist (was a machinist) in Illinois where manufacturing took a hard hit. They sent home a piece of paper with his pink slip about getting funding for schooling if the company was identified as having lost jobs due to overseas outsourcing. His company was too small to qualify but I went on the list and found many companies in the Chicago area that qualified. I even posted the info on the boards here about six months ago.

Total # of outsourced jobs? More less the population of 3 entire states!
Try to calculate that economic nightmare!!!
Our tax returns are outsourced. Our credit history is outsourced. Our employers know everything
our age, our residence, our credit (if they want it), any criminal activity, etc.  What is new here?  You apply for health insurance and your employee knows your health background.  What is new here?  Privacy is long gone.
Is it true it is easier for us to get grants, what with out jobs being off shored? SOmething

It's true. You have to be reassigned a job to get the voice again. Jobs can't be edited once s

Have you looked into PRN Funding?
May be worth considering...(see link)
we're funding the war with the higher priced gas.
Plus i've noticed on my bills, my taxes are higher, about 3-6 dollars.  Nickel and diming us there as well.
Where did you hear that? And what funding source? Curious. nm

Headline: Poor Funding of Rich Seen as Unsustainable.
"DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) — Massive flows of capital from the emerging to the developed world are unsustainable and risk damaging both poor and rich countries, some of the world's top finance officials said on Saturday.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said that the current global investment pattern was "profoundly abnormal" and in no country's interest.

"It is not sustainable in the long run that the emerging world would finance the industrial world. It doesn't correspond to the interest of the emerging world, neither to the interest of the industrialised world," he said.

In a similar vein, Indian Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said countries like his, one of the emerging stars on the global economic scene, were under threat.

"Global imbalances are deepening and that has serious consequences for developing countries like India," he said.

The United States is currently seeing huge inflows of capital from the developing world, notably China, that are financing its current account deficit, bolstering the dollar and keeping long-term interest rates low though bond purchases.

The danger to the world economy is that when the inflows eventually dry up there could be sharp economic and market dislocations.

"There are potential triggers that could create serious consequences for the global economy. The first is a southward movement of the dollar, the second is an unexpected increase in U.S. interest rates ... Thirdly, (a spiral in) energy prices... will lead to inflationary expectations," Chidambaram said.

U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Robert Kimmitt said that his country needed to play its part to solve the imbalances but also called on China again to let the yuan currency strengthen.

"The U.S. needs to increase savings, starting with a reduction of the budget deficit," he said. "China needs to move its currency to be driven by underlying market forces soon." The growing significance on the world economic stage of countries such as China and India has been a major theme this week at Davos.

U.S. officials such as Kimmitt have been keen to say that they are not expecting any immediate change in the flow of funds from China in particular and that U.S. financial markets are robust enough to handle a change.

There are some concerns on the bond market, however, that China is losing some of its appetite for Treasuries.

India's Chidambaram, meanwhile, said that he expected flows from China would change as local consumption grew.

"I think the direction of exports will change. A country like China will be forced to stimulate domestic demand ... I'm not judgmental about China. The people of developing countries have to have a higher consumption of goods and services," he said. "

what schooling

Been at this since late 1970s.

Schooling
How do you tell someone who is looking at schools that they should only go with the top 3?  I learned the hardway and I am enrolled in M-Tec currently.  I am sure you can get jobs from other schools but I personally would like the opportunity for the job placement.
Schooling for MT
Can you recommend the best online school for becoming an MT?
I don't think schooling has anything to do with it.
I had on-the-job training many years ago and I have no problem getting jobs. It's how much you know, not the schooling. If you have only been transcribing a few specialties or can do acute care but not OPs, cardiology, etc, it might limit you as to jobs.
Home Schooling!!!

I am currently home schooling my son via the interent. I am not sure who loves it more him or me. He is a link to the main school page if you like to look into it.

Home schooling

I home school my son via the interent and it is great!!! He still has friends. School is not the only way to make friends there is church, sports, etc. My son has been diagnosed Ped. Bipolar and is a very, very smart child and the school stystem was only holding him back.

Home schooling is not for every child, but it has been working out GREAT for my child

Home Schooling
I have one daughter in college studying to be a teacher. I have one daghter who home schools her 6 and 9 y/o. The 6 y/o is in the first grade. He reads on a 3rd grade level. The 9 y/o reads and does math on an 8th grade level. They both play soccer and basketball, dance classes, swimming, library days. It takes discipline on YOUR part to make a routine. Her county has a very large home schooling network. They take field trips. This may not seem like much to any of you, but my daughter was a "C" student, more interested in makeup and Vanderbilt jeans, clothes, boys, etc., etc. She was made to wear designer diapers. I was very skeptical when I found out the plan, but no longer. I am amazed at what the home schoolers are doing. My great-grandson is also 6 and does NOT even know his alphabet and is just now learning how to print his name. He does not know his address or phone #. Colleges are actively recruiting home schoolers because they make better students, fit into college life better, and get along better in the college atmosphere. Check out your local home school organization - they can get you started on planning for next year. You'll have plenty of help and good luck.
what difference in schooling for PA's?
vs. MD's?  What can they NOT do?
Home Schooling
I have 7 grandchildren, all my daughter's, and she's home schooled all of them.  The oldest will have her Masters soon.  The next 3 oldest are in college.  The next 2 are at home with mom, and the youngest is in private school.  He has Down syndrome.  I'm so proud of all of them. They're doing great, and it's primarily because of home schooling.
I agree on schooling
If you don't go with the top 3 you are likely to not find a job. That is something a lot of people find out too late, unfortunately.

I'm a Career Step graduate and had my job within 24 hours. I couldn't have done that without quality training.
You were not stunted in your schooling, were you?
Again, if you do not understand, maybe taking a brush up course would give you some assistance in what the poster meant, was trying to do. This is why so many people are upset about this and you, as well, do not have any scruples because you are out to get any and all that you can regardless of the next person. You have no thought for your peers. Shame on you, also.
About 670 first day, no schooling, no training, no

expander.  That was gross line though.

You can't be a decent MT without the right schooling! I don't care what you say.

Home Schooling Via the internet

That is what I love about home schooling my son via the internet. We have an office here in town and they have 2 days a week where you can bring your child in if they need help or just to be able to work around and meet the other kids in the area. Here is the link to our local chapter and below that is the link to the main company.

So much for the benefits of home-schooling and keeping your kids away from those bad, bad kids who attend regular school!

OK, I respect you home schooling, but when my
daughter was in high school, a very good school, most of the teachers had advanced degrees from excellent universities. Her chemistry teacher had a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. How many parents have those kinds of credentials?

Oh, by the way, it was a public school.
Experience means more than schooling... sm
I took typing in high school, became a nurse, dabbled in MT for a doc, and have now been an MT off and on for 30 years, steadily for the last 10. No one ever asked me if I went to an MT school. I took the acute care, basic 4 tests and passed. It is what you know and where your have worked that matters. Maybe you need help with your resume to present yourself in the best possible light.
outsourced for sure
nm
I was outsourced and went to VR
because it was the same place I have typed for for over 15 years now. I am retirement age and really do not have to work as much nor do I want to work as much as I did years ago on straight, VR or anything. Having said that, VR on the work I do is like taking candy from a baby. I average about $25 an hour and only work part-time with my having cut my hours back. I am happy camper.
Check out my post above about schooling and what I think is happening. sm
Like I said, newbies cannot do VR effectively. They just don't have the experience. They need to do about 5,000 clinic and/or acute care MTs with extensive notes, books, the ability to do their own research via google, etc., in order to do VR.
I give them information for schooling and this website
and I never hear anything else from them again. I guess once they figure out how much work is involved, they change their mind. I agree that most people think it is a job where we sit here and do nothing. Most of us can make good money, but it is a lot harder than most people think.
Is it possible that teaching can be outsourced?
the date is 2014, It a nice day. You drop off your kids to public school to for them to watch a huge plasma screen that has a teacher in it. And guess what... Its via Satellite, from India. Im getting goosebumps.... Arg. Its also outsourced. Oh im having a nightmare. I hope its its just a nightmare.
Must be a outsourced Company
Is that for real? Thats still 1750 lines
being outsourced to TRINIDAD!! NM
.
How many of those outsourced MTs have even seen snow??
:=
Department outsourced
After going through this 2 years ago I feel your pain. Though there are some positives to working at home it is a whole different ballgame. Personally I miss my coworkers and just the general atmosphere of the hospital. I keep hoping more hospitals will realize they still need some in-house staff, at the very least to do QA on what a lot of the services are turning out. It seems to me it has become nothing more than churn and burn with the emphasize on turn-around time, not quality. When I look up old reports in our system I am appalled at some of the stuff that goes out, and I am on accounts that require American MTs. It is really sad what this "profession" has become.

Just because work is outsourced, unless
you have access to the entire medical record, not all personal info is available, only what the doctor chooses to include in his dictation. MTs do not necessarily have access to the entire record with the billing info and such.
hospital outsourced...
Believe me I didn't leave by choice! I had a great job with amazing benefits, however our hospital started outsourceing 5 years ago and slowly but surely all the work dried up and our department faded away...

I avoided Focus Infomatics due to their offshoring, but now, I don't know, they are sounding pretty good. I just want eScription back. Anyone hiring? :)
No problem with the anger the OP showed towards home-schooling?
I didn't spew venom, only pointed out the obvious, kids are kids are kids. Anybody who thinks that people home-school their children to keep them away from "bad kids" is greatly mistaken. The minority may be for that reason. The majority have real reasons for their conviction to home-school.

Some people choose to home-school because their kids are the bad kids. Some people are forced into home-schooling bad kids by the public schools who can't handle them. It does happen, I've personally witnessed a friend being put through exactly that.

But, thanks for pointing out my venom (it was not intended as such) and thanks for the prayers.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I also believe their country pays for their schooling too. sm
I am not sure about their residencies, whether they do them in the US or their own country, but I have also heard it is very easy and very short period to become a doctor in another countries. It scares me more about them not knowing what to do if they have very little training compared to ours. I would flat out refuse to have a foreign doctor work on me!! To the lay Americans though, they cannot understand medical language period so I think they don't understand anyway whether it is English or another language.
They don't have in-house anymore - it's all outsourced.
I know because the service I work for does their work.
An Outsourced Life -- anyone see that on MSNBC?

I didn't know whether to laugh or be disgusted, so I have decided to do both.

Just saw a story on MSNBC about some jerk (an American jerk, looks like the biggest geek in the world) who has outsourced all his worries to a Pakistan company and a young, pretty Pakistani girl named "Honey" takes care of answering all his emails for work, for home, for his family, etc.  Hired a second Pakistani woman, a middle-aged woman (forget her name) to handle his WIFE.  When his wife is upset with him or he with her, he emails this Pakistani woman and she handles it -- emails the wife and argues FOR this jerk.  Even picks out the gifts he gives his kids and wife.  OMG.

What a stupidman for doing it and, I must say, a stupid woman for putting up with that.

How's that for Americans outsourcing everything and sending it overseas?!

Is work continuously being outsourced?
I'm just starting on a medical transcription career. But it sounds like too many companies are firing American workers and outsourcing to other countries. Is this common? Maybe I shouldn't pay for my training and try something else. Thanks.

amelia
I suppose all the work that is outsourced
Makes no sense.  What do they expect for 7-10 cpl?
I wonder why when a department is outsourced/offshored sm
the physicians never have a say in it even though most of them don't like it?  They are the ones who bring in the revenue, after all, so why shouldn't they have a say in what goes on as regards patient care?
VR and ASR will never EVER replace MTs
I have done reports, in fact one just now, where the dictator jumped three or four different times from the hospital course to the diagnosis.  How is a voice rec machine going to pick this up and put it in the right format?  Also, the other day I had a doc that dictated a surgery on both the left and right foot....although in the diagnosis it was the right foot only. I get docs who are confuses as to gender of patient, says he...she...he...then she through the report.   And again, more than once a day, I get a doc who talks on the phone as loud as he is dictating.  Won't the machines pick this up?  What about period as opposed to the actual symbol period?  I don't care what you say, we will not be replaced!!!  Not possible.
Do a Replace.

Edit, Replace. Search for .(one space) and replace with .(two spaces) You can also write a macro to do this for you.

You may want to replace your

PS in example just replace Alt J with f3 if that is the you want to go
nm
Why replace them?? Don't you know
x
i used to replace them
just as soon as a new edition came out. Now, am only updating my most used ones, which include the surgical book. i've been at this 30 yr, and do use the I/N for lots of research, but prefer the books, where i can make notes, highlight, etc. I find them more reliable and quick than the I/N in may circumstances.
