What is the best music download site. Need to
be able to burn CDs too. We don't have iPods.
Tried iTunes - liked it, but since we don't have Apple products not sure it will work for us.
Tried Wal-Mart - liked it, but songs are only good for 30 days unless you burn. I like to burn, but usually have that CD in the car and like to play off the computer too.
Various others that have a monthly fee charge additional $$ if you burn to CD and then if you discontinue the service supposedly all MP3 files are rendered inactive.
We range from 11 to 48 and like a variety of music, also like something user friendly.
I need a chart where they list all the services and the pros and cons of each.
download it from the site (see message)
There's a clickable on the site to download Shorthand. Will that version work for you? You'll need your information ... can't remember exactly, an unlock key or a password. You can copy your .spf dictationary files that you use on your first computer onto a flash drive and import them into your new upload so you'll have all your dictationaries on the new computer.
Need help with FTP. Trying to download file from FTP site -sm
and not having much luck. If I right click on the file name and try to save to a folder it tells me I can't do that. If I just double click on the file name it downloads the file but to Windows Media and then from there I can't get the file to a folder and into Express Scribe. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not a computer whiz and I am so frustrated. Thanks.
Have you tried to download the codec for .dss from their site?
I know you said Vista but you could try checking with them to see anyway.
Can you download Express Scribe and see if you can get your pedal to play through that? nm

download manager issue w/ Word 2003
So, my hard drive crashed - Dell sent me a new hard drive. I installed it and everything works fine- except for when I go to use the download manager- it asks me- save to disc- open to Word- I used to be able to open with Word but now it shows up as a little box and in Japanese. I've looked at settings in the download manager and nothing that I see that I could change. Any ideas? BTW, running XP and Office 2003. Thanks!
Download Express Scribe, it's free, when you download the voice files you will listen to....
them in Express Scribe and you can set your footpedal up. I forget where the downloaded files go, can't remember if you can put them where you want them but I would have to search for them to download to Express Scribe - maybe someone else can tell you how. It is much better than what you are doing.

Download antikeylogger from download.com.
I haven't tried it yet, but it's got good reviews and a 10-use trial.

This would be just a "regular" 3-pedal pedal and not the Dictaphone pedal. nm

You can buy just the Start/Stop software w/o the pedal if you're able to use your pedal as a VEC

Bringing up ExpressScribe pedal question again. Does anyone have 9-pin Infinity pedal on a USB?
tia
Several companies still train on site. In fact, we are piloting an on-site training sm
program, where everyone would come in to the Keystrokes office to train for 1 or 2 weeks. We have a large training room and feel that this may be a way to cover all aspects of an account, be right there to answer questions as they come up and have one-on-one contact.
It will be optional at this point and may not be more effective as remote training, but some people have expressed that they miss the training that you get when you start at a hospital.
We are trying to bridge that gap between working in-house somewhere and working at home.
It may seem out-dated in many ways, but sometimes going back to basics is a good step to take!
Is there ONE pedal I can buy that will work with ALL platforms? And where do I shop for a pedal?
.
A wave pedal is a foot pedal that connects to either
serial port, game port, or USB depending on the software needed with it. You have to download the work via the internet and most companies still require high-speed internet, though some allow dial-up or satellite. A pedal costs about $70, though can find on e-bay cheaper. You can download ExpressScribe for free to use with the foot pedal unless the company requires a different software program.
I have noticed sometimes I will try to get into a web site and that site will freeze up and I dont
know if I have too many screens opened up and minimized or what. I tried to open a website sent by email and froze up the email screen. Not sure what I am doing.
wav pedal is a foot pedal that plugs into your
computer so you can transcribe wav files. There are many other formats such as DSS, but they are all digital voice files.
I don't think brand of foot pedal is important, but need to know if it is game port, serial port, or USB and how many pins it has. The majority of them are made by Infinity in some foreign country, but sold by many companies.
WAV pedal vs. USB port foot pedal
PLEASE HELP! Are wav pedals and USB port foot pedals one in the same? I've only transcribed from audio tapes, and all this is new to me. Thank you for your help.
A wav pedal is just a generic term for a pedal used to
play voice files you have on your computer. You can get them on the equipment board here, e-bay, or you can Google and get lots of other places. Some pedals are fairly generic and can play multiple "wav" types, but some only work with certain software. You can have a serial port connection, a game port connection, or a USB connection.
If you do not already have a job that you need a pedal for I'd suggest waiting because you don't know which kind you will use. If you need it for testing you can download ExpressScribe for free and use the function keys to test.
I also have a USB foot pedal. Do most companies use the USB pedal or SM
will I need a 9-pin or a 15-pin. Also, which transcription software for playing back audio files is the best? I've used one that was a fee download, I think it was called Bytescribe or somethingl ike that. Does that work for most all files or should I look into purchasing something like Start/Stop or GearPlayer?
Oh and does anyone know where I can get Microsoft Word or Office Suite for a reasonable (I'd say cheap, but cheap usually means bootleg) price?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but it's been a while since I've worked for a national. Before the hopsital job I'm being laid off from, I worked in the office at a hospital. So I've been out of the loop so to speak.
Thanks guys.
I subscribe to another web site and within the boards on this site they have
Would anybody be interested if adminstrators would allow us to have this type of board or even put it on the main board. Like on this other board they tell you to go to a certain web site for a coupon for 20% off Barnes and Noble or when Target has reduced prices on seasonal things. Anybody got ideas or bargains they would like to share to save money? We could call it the MT Stars penny-pinchers board.
Foot pedal? Going from VXP to applying for other companies. What foot pedal should I get that woul
I need one even just to test so it seems. Thanks for the input!
Microsoft Word.. The oold Word used to do this and I'm new to 2003 Word..nm

You can download
Express Scribe for free if you need it. It works great.

Hi everybody,
Does anyone know where to go to download the sony digital voice Editor 2? This is supposed to be a free download. I need it to start a new job, and I can't find it. Help anyone?

Rebecca,
Are you the former surgery tech? Just curious because I saw your previous emails. No matter. I don't know where you'd find what you're looking for, but I just want to say congratulations on the new job!!!!

yeah, t'is I. thank you very much NN. it's an oncology account. don't know too much about that but I'll give it everything I've got.
Rae, what are your download and ...
upload speeds, and what satellite company are you with?
You may want to download
The voice file onto your hard drive first, and then load it into Express Scribe.
I did download it, but
I cannot get it set right as far as rewinding back far enough. Any hints? Thx.
where did U download it from? NM
Thanks all I will download it!

will need to download...
This has happened to me before. You will have to go the website and download the codec in order to play you wav files. Cannot remember how I did it, but once you find the download you should be fine. You could just do a search on Express Scribe codec to find the download.
Good Luck---I use Express Scribe also.
download them
yes, you need to download them. Create a folder on your desk top named something like voice files. Then download them to that folder.
Download again
Have you tried removing Express Scribe and downloading it again?
I use this website:
http://www.nch.com.au/in/ggscribe.html
Then go to near the bottom of the page and click:
Download Express Scribe for Windows (Primary Server - zip file)
Some of the other downloads cause the problems you are having. Let me know how it goes.
I have tried that and I can download it....sm
but they said I have to be able to play sri files which you have to download additional stuff to do. I tried that and still wouldn't work. Then she sent me her version she uses and it had that gid file on it and my computer said it didn't recognize it and couldn't download. So it isn't just ExpressScribe, it is other stuff too to enable sri files.
Try a download at Download.com
They used to have a free recorder that would work on the PC...and would be wav file which works in Express Scribe
Wow! That is awful. My first download did take a
but NOTHING like what you experienced (maybe 3-5 minutes instead of almost immediately for me).
So it probably really depends on where you live, etc., and no good way to predict just how bad it would really be.
Were your ADT searches really bad too? Probably took me twice as long as usual, so pretty frustrating, but not totally unbearable. And the fact that the other reports were downloading in the background while I was working on the current one did make things go smoother than I had expected for the short period of time I lost my DSL and had to use dial-up.
See the URL for download inside

upload/download...
i know nothing about wireless -- but with DSL mine were taking only about 15 seconds when i signed on. Then i got a replacement machine and it was back to about 5 min to do the initial upload. Tech support said there were problems with the new DQS version, so my replacement machine was reverted to old version. Don't know if any of this is helpful, but that's all i can offer...
You do not download the program onto the
floppy to transport, just your active working file which is called a dictionary file (SPF I think.) You download the program onto your computers and then just transport the dictionary file between them.
You can increase the amount a floppy can hold by creating a directory (or directories) on the floppy and then copying the files into the directory. If you do not do this, the computer has to put all the extra data required for a directory file onto each file you load to the floppy.
So, on your a: drive, you create a file called SH. Then copy the dictionary into that file. You can copy multiple dictionaries onto that file if you want.
You can download to computer. Yes,
if you have a license, you can put it on all your machines. Then you just copy the dictionary file onto a floppy and carry it with you and load into the machine you are using.

It is very simple and they remind you each day you have X days left, 10 in all. They don't list a price but I am told it is $179, don't know. Works very well but they should post their prices.
