Wonderful! So nice to hear good things like this!

You can't make things worse and could make things better.
The skinny woman may be ill.  The guy might not know the dog is a nuisance.  Who knows?  Maybe it is not as forbidding as it seems and maybe they just need to be asked in a nice way.
If you work for a smaller MTSO, it is rare that
they offshore. I work for a small one FT and another one as an IC, and there has never been talk of them offshoring. A lot of the smaller MTSOs don't.
DSG is a wonderful place to work..sm

Management staff is awesome, plenty of work, pay always on time.  My experience with them has been that if I do quality work, keep my line count committment, and just let them know if I am having a problem (sick, etc) and can't work, I have no problems with them.  I have been there almost three years, and love it.

And before anyone accuses me, NO, I am not management.  I am an MT (employee status)

Things that make you go hmmm....
I have been with my new company for a few months now and on Monday's payday I noticed they did not take out my insurance premium so I asked about it. Found out that usually twice a year we do not get insurance payments taken out in the last paycheck of the month, which happen in the months that we have 3 paydays because the premium is broken down into 2 payments. That got me to thinking about why my previous company did not do that, the one that I worked at for over 12 years. We are told we are going to pay say 500 per month or 250 per paycheck for insurance and yet the months where we got 3 paychecks, that would mean we paid 750 for insurance. Makes me wonder if my old company knew about this since that company has already been in trouble with their state for not taking out state taxes, getting in trouble for how they handled their 401k, etc. The things that make you wonder!
Those who are so insecure that they make things up are not blessed, however.

turning on the pool filter in the morning and then in the afternoon running out there because I thought I forgot to turn it on. Or preheating the oven and then 5 minutes later saying "shoot! I forgot to preheat the oven!" It's really bad. And I'm only 31. I'm not 90!

I don't know if dementia or Alzheimer's runs in my family, but this could be a sign of something to come. Or as my husband says - you jut don't pay attention to much. He's probably right!
Boy, does this dictator have a way of putting things to make sense.

A 24-year-old married Hispanic male who does not speak English but we used an interpreter for him during each session who has been married 6 times with 3 children.

it does get easier and eventually things make sense to you even when you can't understand -
I was doing a Irish doctor, I could understand the medical terms pretty well, it was the easier, more normal words, I had trouble with.  Because of the lilting and very fast way he said it "three arteries and a vein" nearly drove me insane.
I wish you would not make a blanket statement about things you don't understand about taxes sm
When you are an employee and you are financially responsible for your office, the heat, the electricity, the space in your house, your deductions are nearly identical.

I'll give you this though: ICs frequently make a higher line rate than an employee, at least initially. So many employers are freezing cpl increases in favor of production incentives. My company did this and the incentives are excellent. I have gotten to where my line rate with the incentives is actually higher than any IC position I have ever held. I am going to do that many lines anyway and I am well ahead on all fronts.
Most men can't hear the tiny tings, noises that cars make, and things like
an alarm clock.  A doctor I used to work for did the same thing in the bathroom too.  But, I never heard a plop! Thank Goodness.
Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies.  BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use.  One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail.  Ever since I "overhauled" my techniques and system...I never had to ask another person to some on board again.  Well, nuf for now.  Take care and have a blessed week!!
When things dry up in MT, what kind of work will you do?

I am finishing my studies to be a teacher and it should be pretty good money and rewarding, but standing in front of people *blech*.

I'm trying to get over my stage fright.  Any suggestions for stage fright?

I am a new mother too and here are a few things that work for me.....

I am a new mother too and I have tried many things to take care of my little guy's needs as well as make production on my account....it takes a lot of effort to try to do both at the same time. All I can say is that I have found it is best to do the majority of your work while the baby is sleeping (whether that means late in the evening or very early in the morning- if your company will allow this). I know that when an infant is only 6-weeks-old, it is very difficult to determine any type of "schedule" to allow time to work, but it may get a little easier as she gets a little older. My suggestion to you is that perhaps you check with a relative that lives nearby (a niece is perfect) to see if she would be interested in coming to sit with the baby for a few hours a few days a week so that you can get some work done. I actually started doing this a few months ago and it has worked out great. The baby is content because he is being held and played with, I am content because I am able to work and also I feel relaxed that the baby is nearby in case I am really needed, and my neice is happy to earn a little extra money and also is excited to gain a little more experience with babysitting. I know that this doesn't work for everyone, but it works good for me. I have my own little office area, so I am able to not be so distracted by the baby when he does cry.

Also, I have found it to be a perfect opportunity to work when my spouse comes home from work. I don't really like to sacrifice our together time, but I sometimes will take 1 hour or so to try to work on my account just to try to help boost my productivity. Again, of course this is all provided that you have an account that allows you to work a more flexible schedule.

Being a new mom and an at home MT is not easy. It is like cramming 2 full-time jobs into one. Sometimes, it is nice to make a few adjustments to your schedule such as the ones I have mentioned just to break your day up alittle bit, otherwise making production quotas will be extremely difficult. These are just ideas for you that have helped me and I am sure that you will find many more that will help for you as the baby grows.

I wish you much success with your career & motherhood! :)

All things being equal, do you prefer to work with a C-phone or use WAV files over the internet? sm

I make that much and work...
for a hospital, from home. My colleagues at the other hospitals in this area also make in that range as well.
I used to think smaller was better
I took a job with a small MTSO who offshores.... they added to my responsibilities w/o extra pay and THEN had the gonads to cut my pay. They said "sorry" but we are a small company and making some adjustments. I'm like dumbfounded.

Depends on who you work for as to how much you make..
The first online company I worked for, unfortunately, found out later they were India-based. Anyway, I work in Escription and made SQUAT. It would take 12 hours or more to make $100. Now, I work for another company that uses Escription and I can make up to $26 an hour doing VR. I think these companies set something up in the line count as how to count it and also it depends if they pay for headers, footers, etc. I definitely got ripped off the first go round. I like the company I work for now and like Escription. You can make money on this platform, although I am paid more than 3.5 for VR. That is ridiculous.
I need computer help. How do I make PRD work

How much do you make per year doing MT and do you work PT/FT and

If it works for you, feel free to share with your colleagues. If double
clicking a doc or dot file opens Word 2003 and not 2007 it should work with
the company software - depending on how the company software calls Word.

I hope this will help everyone!  I know it helped me.  I love typing in Word2007, but for now, I will have to type in Word 2003 until my company's software is compatible with it.  At least I can have both programs running at the same time!  The info on his web page about creating a toolbar is not necessary, unless it is something you need to do for Word 2007.

    Smaller companies that pay better...
If you guys know any names of smaller/mid sized companies that pay much better and are better all around, PLEASE give out some names - it's really hard to know which ones are the good ones unless we have word of mouth! Please :)
    smaller MTSO
I once worked for a very small MTSO in their office. They were in a suite. But they were located in a metropolitan area, very busy. At the end of my second week of employment with them, the CEO walked by the office I was working in and conveniently said VERY LOUDLY that a "certain medical center" (account I was solely working on) owed the company over $30,000. This was before I received my first paycheck. I was stunned. How's that for shock value? I received my check in a timely fashion and it did not bounce. However, CEO was sure to let me know of HIS SITUATION.
Smaller nationals are way to go...
It seems you get treated like dirt by the large nationals, i.e., Medquist, Spheris, no communication, etc. Many experienced MTs have gone the way of smaller national companies simply because of the better communication among employer and employee, more warmth among the company, etc. Spheris tries to give off this impression they are a warm company much thanks to the CEO, but the organization itself is not a good employer to work for.
I want to look into Smaller Nationals.

I am hoping to get some names of some good Small National companys to work for.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Many smaller companies - to name a few... sm
Health Information Partners, TTS, OSI, there are many many others.
    regarding smaller font
I will type in any size font that they want, use what ever margins that they want but when I do my line count I change the document back to Courier 12 and use my usual margins.  I tell them up front that my charge per line is on Courier 12 with 1" margins on sides.  No one has every questioned me for this.  They can have as many characters they want on a line in whatever font that they want but not for my line count.  Saves me on my sticky paper and so I don't care.  But have been doing this for years and am very upfront about what my definition of a line is and yes I do gross lines.
it is usually because they used it in a smaller screen
Open it up, click on the large square in the upper right hand corner next to the X for closing it, so that it is enlarged.  Then close it, and it should open to the full screen the next time.  Most all software will open in the same size that it was closed in the last time.  Hope this helps.
Maybe a smaller company would be a better fit. sm
I know many MTs need health benefits, but if you can swing it, try the smaller or medium size companies. Most likely you will have the same account and dictators every day.
Their pay is way low and you work like a dog to make minimum lines.
    x
Hard 2 make money with no work.

I can flex some, but I cannot make up an entire day of nearly no work!
:-( They do not want any excuses as to why people cannot work, but those of us who are here and WANT to work have nothing to do. Really makes me feel loyal to them, 'ya know????
not stretching. I work about 12 hours a day and make--sm
on average of 3500 gross lines a day. disbelieve if you want, but my money is in the bank. It is possible if you want to do it badly enough. ppfffttt.
Because MTs in the US become the "editors" to fix their work and make them look good. nm
    ;
you can use vonage, but there is an adapter you need to buy to make it work.
Ask at office depot about it.
Keep looking, but find a smaller company.

The smaller ones have better accounts, useful macros and expansions, decent line rates, nice supervisors/owners, but probably IC with no benefits.  I don't care about that as long as I can crank out the lines in a small amount of time.

Yep, she needed something that was smaller than the cigarette.
    For sure!!!!
