Whiplash

I was just wondering if anyone else here had ever had whiplash before? I was in a car accident recently. Was very minor really, but my neck was bugging me for a few days. Today I finally broke down and went to see my doctor. They took x-rays of my c-spine. The doc had me rotate my head around and I have a very loud cliking noise at one point and a catch in my neck. He gave me two injections. One was a steroid, the other a muscle relaxer. Wrote me a prescription for Lortab and Soma, told me to get in the shower three times a day with the water as hot as I could stand beating down on my neck and rotate my head around 10 times in each direction. I have to go back in a week. He said that with whiplash there really is no way to tell the severity of it in the beginning. He said it's a "wait and see" kind of thing. He also recommended I take a couple of days off from work because sitting here typing could add more stress to my neck. I was just curious if anyone else had been through this and what your experience was like?
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I should get a second opinion? TIA

Answer to Whiplash
I definitely feel for you. I got whiplash from a car accident quite a few years ago. I was in a neck brace for a few days and was given a muscle relaxer. I also took advantage of a chiropractor that really helped me. Unfortunately, to this day I still have neck and back problems because of it and have to be careful of how I bend and move. I hope you're feeling better soon.
I had a car accident with whiplash
Every situation is different but for me, my whiplash was pretty severe & resulted in a herniated disk.
I went to PT which was tremendously helpful (once I saw the right PT that is, the first PT I saw did not help at all.)
They told me to take a muscle relaxer, lots of Advil, and hot/warm moist heat is a must. The one thing different they told me was not to rotate the neck. They told me the worst thing you can do is to tilt your head back, to the front & to the side is OK but tilting your head back at all was a major no-no.
Once your muscles calm down a little, PT is something you may want to look into. I still do my neck exercises to this day and I still find them to be very helpful. (my accident was back in March 2004)
Whiplash update
Thanks to all who responded last week regarding my post about whiplash. I have been back to the doctor this morning for a re-check, and unfortunately for me, am in considerably more pain than before. I have been prescribed more pain medication and muscle relaxers and my doctor is setting me up for physical therapy. I will be going three days a week (not sure how many weeks). He'll be calling me later today to let me know when my first appointment is. He seems to think that heat and massage and therapy will help nip this thing. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed here. Sleeping has been tough as I have a difficult time getting comfortable and working is difficult as well becuase sitting and typing puts a lot of stress on my neck. But, I'm keeping on keeping on. Just wanted to say thanks.
