When we are not making a decent enough wage to buy our kids food and clothes, it is like (inside)

the little kid who wants a toy from another child and runs to his mother and whines "he won't give it to me." Just another way for them to try to force more money out of already tired pockets. I for one will not pay for that until they fight for wages to be increased. Let them go out of business like a lot of us have had to do. Now they want to make us pay for the lack of money they are getting from India because I am sure they aren't buying into it, and believe me I don't hate the Indians for wanting to work, it is not them, it is the American company's greed. When transcription companies can spend millions and millions of dollars to buy each other out, you know it is a lucarative business.
Why are they cramming voice down our throats at half pay? You can't tell me they are taking half pay, plus half pay is not enough when speech is not trained.
Vote for Obama! He says he will close the loop holes for American Corporations to send our jobs overseas.

That's the only way to make a decent wage --
I want a decent job at a living wage and less stress in my life.

Kids and clothes
Well that gives me hope. Thanks. I did try buying them clothes but you could hear their groans clear across the country. They chucked the clothes into a corner of a closet and never wore them. I took them shopping recently and they turned their nose up at anything I would choose for them.
I hope it's just a phase. I've seen plenty of 40-year-old women wearing slutty clothes and I would feel awful if they grew up to do that. I used to have problems knowing how to dress too. Unfortunately the way I found out about it was most embarrassing. I was reprimanded at work for my appearance. How humiliating! At least I got the message and tried to do better. I would rather they found out from me than find out from their boss like I did.
kids clothes these days
The skimpy little outfits the girls get away with wearing to SCHOOL, just boggles my mind. Heck, most are shorter than my old gym clothes...remember those days? Girls could not even be SEEN by the boys in our gimmies...modesty is not in these days it seems...and the boys
Well when my son tried the baggy britches, I did just that when he was going up the stairs in front of me...pulled the d&%$ things down, one warning..catch you like that again and you will be wearing a uniform
Kids' clothes today
The girls (even the little ones) all dress like little sluts nowadays-- I blame the so-called "stars" who encourage this "sexy" look. Teenaged boys are "terminally horny" anyway without egging them on. It is any wonder we have so many teen pregnancies nowadays? I think by dressing and acting so "old", they are missing out on their childhood years and will be all "burned out" by the time they are 20, not to mentioned having 5 kids by that time (all with different fathers, no doubt), and on welfare with no life at all.

making minimum wage
I may just be crazy here, but I do not see how anybody could possibly just make minimum wage on this job. At 8 cents a line, that would be only typing less than 75 lines an hour, and even at 5 cents a line it would be less than 130 lines an hour.
Do people really and truly sit down and type for an hour and only make 5.85 an hour?
I am making more than minimum wage.
NJ is $7.15. I average between $13 and $15 an hour, sometimes more, but each hour I work yields a different line amount depending on the type of account I am on. I switch between 4 different accounts. As long as I can produce the same amount of lines everyday I am happy. Sounds like you are to, so not sure why you are concerned if people are making minimum wage in this field or not. Why do you care?
making minimum wage..
Most of the time the company's minimum requirements for your shift would equal at least minimum wage, so if you don't meet your line count and therefore are making less than minimum wage and they have to pay you the difference, they probably are not going to keep you as an employee -- at least I would not think so.
making a decent line count
Pretty much, yes. Unless you work in a small hospital and even then sometimes that is the case. I worked in a small hospital where we did 15 different work types plus radiology. You can make normals for some of the doctors and others... Line count comes with time and experience. Gaining medical knowledge helps because it helps you figure out what the doctor is saying, even if you can't understand his dictation.
I would be 43 and have no life at this time and wish I was making decent money, but not ;0( ...NM

Not newbies making 7 cpl! I am like you, lucky to have a decent rate
but that's not the case anymore, you must know that.
There are too many MTSO that whine about making not enough money to pay you a livable wage.
I applaud you for being truthful and NOT GREEDY..
I make a second living off ebay! I have sold maternity clothes, baby clothes, tupperware, and I have
Christmas dresses and boys' outfits that I will be listing in the next month or so that I bought last year at a smocked closeout and paid 8-10 a piece. Price tags read anywhere from 56 to 88.00 dollars and I will get approximately 25 to 40 a piece depending on what brands and size they are. Plus they pay shipping. I sold approx 35 Christmas outfits on ebay last year which paid for my Christmas. It was awesome and I'll do it again this year! Good luck.
Oh, you do have to have a credit card, bank acct. for ebay. It is worth it though. They just have to verify who you are.
You can check out my auctions with momof3boysal
I don't know about you, but I've got kids to feed, clothe, and house. I need to make a decent
living. I'm not going to be cheated. It sounds as though you've decided to let yourself be used and abused aby the MTSOs all with a big smile on your face. Whatever! It's MTs like you, not I, that have caused the pay rates to decline. MTs like you who will accept whatever abuse they companies hand out, accept being cheated, and accept losing jobs to India.
You'll be back on here next week or next month posting under a different name, crying about your paycheck and looking for sympathy.
Are you sure you have to have kids to get food stamps? (sm)
I am not sure of that. I do think you should contact United Way and local churches and see if you can get some help. At the very least you need food and you should be able to get that from a church somewhere. It doesn't matter if you are of that religion or not and it does not matter if you have children or not. The church is there to help everyone without judgement.

Yes! My kids (above, age 22 and 24) started out making more than I make after 30 years of MT!
.
It's not what goes on outside as much as inside. Have kids??
I don't care about the house, bills, laundry, or anything else that can wait until I'm done working. However, children change everything. In my home (1) God comes first, (2) My family, (3) this MT job. #3 is the only one that can be replaced.
I was a new mom working FT with a newborn when I experienced THE ALL TIME worst work at home experiences of my life. I was on my last stat report of the morning that I had 10 minutes left to be within TAT. Just then I could hear my little angle crying because she hungry and of course wanted her bottle. I just sat there for a few seconds and tried to determine which of the two top priorities in my life I should run to. If I did what I was craving to do, which was run to the baby, I could easily put my job in jeopardy. I was a new mom by the way. So what I did was try to stay focused, riddled with guilt, then proceeded to transcribe the rest of the report through so many tears, that I could hardly see my monitor. THAT was THE worst day of my at-home transcription career.
Please until you've truly been there, at least try and be a bit more sympathetic.
I think that grandparents who babysit for free are just making their kids dependent on them
Maybe stop babying her and she'll respect you more.
I doubt this generation of kids will grow up to watch their grandchildren - they're way too selfish.
Just a suggestion.
I do, because it pays well, I know it inside and out, and I'm home with my kids,

All I want for Christmas is a decent job, a decent job, a decent job.
One that's not 95% ESLs, steady workload, steady accounts, good communication, office staff who aren't rude buckpassers, decent line rate, no offshoring, direct deposit, flexible schedule, not having to do 50+ 30-second reports per day, and a platform conducive to speed. I know it's not possible, but a girl can dream, can't she? This is, after all, my Christmas wish list. I never get what I want for Christmas. Why is that too much to ask for? It doesn't even matter anyways. After Christmas, I QUIT MT!!!! Burger King is just down the street, and they give food discounts.
Food stamps, WIC, food banks, churches, family...
There are many answers to that problem.
No one has the right to steal and writing a dishonorable check is stealing. It is called "theft of property".
My tax dollars support government programs to prevent people from going hungry and to provide for women, infants, and children. I make donations to food banks and churches, etc., for those who just need help as well.
Food for the staff and doctors, if you can afford it. Food is always a big hit in a doctor's off
One of the biggest perks I can remember when I worked in a doctor's office was when the drug reps or orthopedic equipment reps would cater lunch for the whole office just so they could meet with the docs. The whole office would get so jazzed at the idea of free lunch.
If you can't afford to cater lunch, then I would do something like a muffin basket and bagels always go over well. But food is your best bet.

sure i was. i'm making fun of the people who are making a case for background checks, etc
to do medical transcription at home as if they may do something AWFUL with the info they receive. So if you want an invasion of privacy let's REALLY invade it and make sure fat chicks don't transcribe because they are so busy eating they can't get the work done, they mess up the keyboard with food and if they are provided health insurance they will raise the rates for the company sky high because their health risks are higher than others. Then there are the psychological issues overweight people bring to the table. After we eliminate fat people, we can go on to eliminate diabetic people who may have low blood sugar while typing and go into a spell and type the wrong thing. I could go on and on through the process of elimination. How about prescribed medications that may cloud your thinking? So you take Ambien to sleep but you have an Ambien groggy hangover when you are transcribing? Should they transcribe. How about your teens are on your last nerves and you take a Xanax? Should you be allowed to transcribe?
Still need help & clothes, etc...
Just wanted to say that a lot of people from our church (Northridge Baptist) are sending clothing, canned food, as well as soap, shampoo, baby things, etc., down to the Missions in every city because people are so WITHOUT anything! There are soup kitchens everywhere that have people waiting out in the street, and on top of that? We are expecting another hit here pretty soon, towards next weekend of another hurricaine! I don't know really how much more people can take but I know I went online and sent a fax to Montgomery, Alabama, to Richard Shelby (Alabama's Representative there) and I'm waiting to hear from him to give us information about more placed to help. As soon as I get some information I will post again. As someone said, there are plenty who just haven't gotten anything yet, and we don't even know where or who they are! Thank everyone for helping; it sure pulls a *country* together when people are searching and needing support and they get it from others who they don't even know! To them? Those people are heros (and the paper is just too busy to report on anything good; they are busy writing about all the horrible things to add to the disaster of it all). Thanks for letting me vent! To begin with, I HATED going to an office, so I don't want to get dressed and pretend I am. I'm with you sister - flannel jama pants if cold enuf and I buy men's HUGH 5X Tshirts, short sleeves. The sleeves comes midway down my arms and to my knees. Great for winter sleeping - great for summer sleeping wo jama pants, and bathing suit cover-ups. I have a pool. In the summer, I word in my bathing suit or cotton play suit and if some unfortunate soul comes to h the door, I throw on the tee - and sometimes I just work in my skivvies and my T's and to heck with whoever comes to the door. I do brush on makeup, or I would even scare myself.
yep, I go to Old Navy and look at their clothes for my girls
Or Wal-Mart and look at all the stuff I want! that does it for me!
Did you change you clothes detergent or anything?- sm
My DH has very sensitive skin and that has happened to him when Tide changed their "no bleach alternative" detergent about 8 years ago. I switched to Cheer and no more problem. But it sound like an allergic reaction to something and should get checked out asap.
i wish my clothes were loose...i guess they would be if i would
They used to wash clothes by hand, too,
Would you tell someone with a laundromat that washing all those clothes can be done on a washboard?
Fact is, just as those brought up in this generation possibly wouldn't survive in our world "back then," we probably wouldn't have survived in our parents' world back in their times. You can't miss what you've never had, and we didn't know any different/better. As I said, they used to use washboards for their clothes and outhouses to pee, but by golly, I don't see many people doing that anymore, except maybe the Amish. It's no different with spellcheck, expanders, etc.
We could learn to sew and make our own clothes.

I LOVE shopping for clothes at resale stores
I find fashionable, barely worn, name brand clothes. It really is fun!! I couldn't imagine paying for new clothes anymore!
It's a little harder to find good kids' clothes at the second hand stores, but I have found some really nice ones that are real bargains.
I forgot to mention how I save money on clothes...sm
The clearance racks are my best friends - often times I can find things there cheaper than on consignment or at Good Will.
Another thing I do is that I have a friend whose daughter is 1 size smaller than my daughter is, so in return for me giving her the hand-me-downs she will occasionally buy my daughter something new or give me the amount of money that I'd get if it went to consignment, and I don't have to deal with waiting for a consignment check.
If your kids/you like named brand items for clothing eBay can be great. My sister buys my nephew's Abercrombie clothes on eBay for usually around $10 a shirt - these are shirts that normally sell for $35-45 in the stores.
Another thing I do is that I have a friend who wears the same sizes that I do and we have similar clothing tastes, so we often do "clothes swap" where we'll swap out some jeans, shirts, etc. That way it sorta seems like you're getting something new.

I never said you shouldn't have kids! Feeling guilty? I asked WHY you had kids.
You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!! You know exactly what you said. You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed! You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT. Again, I only hope your kids never hear you speak that way or write that way. Shame on you. Why have kids at all? Just another parent who has them, gets rid of them for day AND night, BRAGS ABOUT IT, and then calls ME wicked! Give me a break! Camp is fine - its WHAT YOU SAID AND YOU KNOW IT. Your own words showed your heart. Period.
Kids are demanding and so is MT work. My question is how CAN you do this with kids, rather than how
When you have two young kids, 11 months apart, (like I stated they are now 4 and 5) and have been doing this since they were born with no help from their father and no family around, YES, the kids get neglected. Part time might work but living on one salary, part time, is not an option. How can you possible tell me that anyone with two young kids can stay at home and work a full-time, 8-hour shift, and still give their kids the attention they NEED. I dont care how good you are at multitasking and how great your organizational skills are. It is a very difficult thing to do. And I am offended by your post making it sound as if it is easy to do.
I do agree that it can depend on how well your kids behave and how well they are able to play on their own. But my kids were not able to play well on their own. They needed constant attention.
So please take the time to realize that there are people out there in different situations than your own.
Reading our posts should help you to understand that everyone has a different situation. I believe everyone should have the right to shares their experiences as it might benefit the original poster in her questions and concerns.
I dont think anyone should be bashed for taking the time out to write about their experiences. I dont usually come on here to argue but you really ticked me off with your post. And try reading the post correctly. I said next time around I would have put them in day care. What I DID do with them was set them up to an activity like art or put on a movie for them. Geez.
Stayed "because of the kids?" I say "leave because of the kids"
You're in no position to buy right now. Keep saving, keep paying down your bills, and for heaven's sake get rid of that dead weight of a BF you're living with. You can do better.
So, should I return the $75 (x2 kids) in music cards I got the kids for x-mas...sm
My son has been telling me about free music sites and I was very leary. How do they skirt the law Radguy?
