When pets are not confined or supervised, things like this should not be a surprise. nm

I supervised an account...sm
...that wanted things left verbatim including even what they considered to be "common-usage" slang like "vanco". This, of course, caused tremendous difficulties because it then fell on us to decide which slang is acceptable and which is not.

We were also expected not to embed repetition or redundancy in the report, but if a dictator said "the patient was very, very distressed" we were to leave both "very's" alone.

We finally had to take this account in hand and push back somewhat because it became almost untranscribable (if that's a word). We had people frozen at their keyboards, trying to make these distinctions without any clear direction and fearing that they'd be called on the carpet.

Sometimes, "client management" means "managing client expectations". A vendor cannot be expected to provide a satisfactory level of service in a millieu where there are ambiguous and/or shifting expectations.

We were finally able to convince the client that they were their own worst enemy and were working against their own best interests, although of course we didn't quite put it that way.

In one sense, all accounts are "verbatim" accounts in that we are responsible to faithfully render the spoken word without modification whenever possible. However, that is only possible as long as two conditions prevail:

1. The dictation, without modification, accurately conveys the intended meaning without factual errors or confusing grammatical constructs.

2. The dictation, without modification, contains no word forms (abbreviations or slang) that unnecessarily degrade the ability of the reader to clearly and unequivocally comprehend the meaning.

When either of these conditions does exist, it is not the words that should be preserved, but the meaning, and that implies the need for judicious, nongratuitous editing and/or corrections.

Our first responsibility is to preserve the meaning of the dictation, which we do by transcribing the dictation verbatim whenever possible, but not when meaning would be lost, distorted or clouded if the dictated words are transcribed as spoken.

I should mention that in tackling this issue with the client, we accumulated dozens of instances (easily done) in which the spoken words, transcribed verbatim, resulted in ambiguous, erroneous, and sometimes even frightening outcomes. The client literally had no choice but to concede the point.
You simply have to leave the collar on. Take it off now and again for a few minutes of supervised
play, stopping him from licking his wounds. He'll be better before you know it! Woof!
Surprise
Wouldn't the people in the airport be surprised! LOL.
To taken by surprise sm

Don't hire her, ignore her, she's trouble! Been there, done that, she's a prima donna, a "queen" and you don't need her. Anyone who says they'll let you know before you even offer them a position is a megalomaniac, so full of herself she'll never listen to you. I'd rather have someone who is a true "listener," she's not. If you think she was rude at the interview, wait until you try to work with her! Stay clear of her.

what a nice surprise
to get Christian support rather than flamed; it is frightening how few read their Bible and know what it says, even amongst so-called Christians.
Doesn't surprise me
They seem to be turning them into regional offices.
You might be in for a surprise considering he replied..

Noodle surprise.....
Wonderful casserole with hole wheat noodles, onions, mushrooms, yogurt, veggie cheese. I don't eat anything with a face.
By the way, the X tip didn't work!! What a surprise!!
Thanks for trying, though!
We've been doing this for 1-1/2 years. It's no surprise. nm
nm
thanks bunches! what a nice surprise :)

Doesn't surprise me, that organization is as (sm)
shifty as they come. A coupla' broads got VERY rich by selling the rest of us down the river.
My last QA review was a BIG surprise. Here I thought I SM
always topped 98% and routinely cut into my potential earnings to maintain my own standard. Wrong! The QA person's explanations for my mistakes were confusing and seemed in some cases to contradict the guidelines and in others just plain wrong, but I figured my job was to pass the review and get back to work, so I tried again. Failed so completely I was going to be put on probation, allowed to do something like 10 or 15 reports a day until my performance came back up. So I contacted my account manager, who told me she'd take care of it, and that was the end of it. Something I heard later suggested that QA person was still there causing trouble months later. Maybe you should talk to your supervisor. I'd also start gathering documentation of prior reviews for the Labor Board if that raise doesn't come through. There are plenty of companies out there looking for skilled MTs.
That should unnerve everyone, but it shouldn't surprise us. nm

No surprise companies have the upper hand....sm
With a law that says an employer can "fire at will"...I have a hard time thinking the unfairness is NOT supposed to be that way. I could bore you with my past experience but I won't..lets just say after 28 years working in one hospital,an employee file with every yearly evaluation saying "exceeds standards"..the number that was done on me by an HIM director who i later was to learn found out I knew she was "playing doctor" with one of our married OB/GYN physicians and must have felt a bit threatened by that... is a story straight out of a "Fatal Attraction" spoof. On seeing my file in the end.. there was entry after entry of documentation that was literally untrue and fabricated.... when asking a lawyer what I could do.. the answer was nothing... they can fire at will... Some employers... and more specifically HIM directors...are bad people too...
What a very sweet surprise! Happy Mothers Day

Pets
I encourage you to stay with your pet in your home. If you are stupid enough to put animals above the welfare of humans, we, the rest of the human race, can do without you.

I do not want to be exposed to someone's animals with their ticks, fleas, dander and fur while I'm trying to ride out a storm in a shelter.

You have no right to inflict your animals on me. I do not want my tax money going to feeding and housing someone's pets (unless they are a helping animal, like a "seeing eye" dog or one of the dogs and monkeys that help disabled people.

You idiot animal lovers who put your pets before people need to put up the money to build/rent your own shelters for animals and leave the rest of us out of it.
Nothing this year!! I'm surprised since in the past we always received a nice surprise! nm

There is a forum for Pets under
If there is a board for a particular topic, the topic is supposed to be taken to that board. I will be emailing the Administrator.
Anyone have pets that pester more than sm
the family, phone or doorbells?  I swear my 2 dogs have it in for me today.  I didn't take them for their 1/2 hour walk this morning and now they are being absolutely horrible. Won't leave me alone for anything.  Yikes, what a mistake.  Yep, this is the absolute worst they have ever been. One at the door staring at me and the other under the desk pawing my leg.   I've skipped the walk for 2 days now. Tomorrow I won't and I bet they leave me alone!  Shame on me.  Full moon maybe?
neglected pets
...funny you should bring that up. I have been so
busy with school and work, my normally sweet cockatiel birds have been monsters!! I have a large office and a couple of months ago they decided they wanted to stay there so I moved in there. What a pain! They sense when I'm stressed and rushing. That's when the screaming starts. I had to leave my office for a half hour, and when I came back, the new telephone cord was chewed off, my papers were chewed and shredded, and one bird was shredding my reference books!!! They are so demanding. If I don't pay attention to then for a half hour before I start working, I will pay dearly!!! But I do so love them!
she posted later that the ages were pretty evenly spread, which seemed to surprise her. She figured
Lots of moms with younger kids!
Yes, bonuses are reserved for the pets, not
based on cooperation, quality, or anything else, just whether your team leader thinks you are wonderful and so does Deb, but if you are on Deb's list, you get nothing, so just stay quiet in your corner and say nothing or she will slam you.
family pets while working
Have a chair behind my work chair and I HATE when at 2-3am, my cat wants my attention and all of a sudden I feel this "tap" on my back..no one else here but me but I swear everytime he does that it scares me to death lol
Katrina's Displaced Pets

As most of you know by now, lots of the evacuees are refusing to go because they don't want to leave their pets behind.  For all you you pet lovers out here, I've found two sites that are trying to help out in this area that I thought I'd pass on...

www.hsus.org   (Humane Society of America)

Has anyone ordered pet meds from Entirely Pets?

My dog has Cushings and is on $200.00/mo worth of meds and we are going broke between them and the $1000.00/year testing needed,  not to mention shots, etc.  We are paying about $80.00/month for one medicine.  I found it at Entirely Pets for $32.00/mo - a big savings.  The package they show is the exact same as what we get from the vet, the dosage and the # of pills is also the same.   I read the description and it doesn't say anything about it being a generic or anything else that would raise a red flag.  I checked this med at 1800PetMeds and it is $60.00/month there.

I'm going to ask my vet tomorrow what she thinks.  I don't think she'll have a problem with me getting meds from another source but I'd like to hear feedback from an outside party too.

Just stayed at Drury, they allow pets.

I have Mohawk and it does great with our pets...sm
It's neither the cheapest nor the most expensive carpet. Look around your area for a discount place as you can oftentimes find name brand carpets at a reduced price due to overstocks, discontinued items, etc.

I so hoped they would. I felt for that little boy and others who had to leave their pets.
.
Not to mention extremely dangerous for your pets - sm
especially the flea collars, shampoos, etc. Totally agree. Awful products. Should be banned completely.
Tarro for ants (keep away for Children and Pets)
Worked great for me - like nothing else!
Better yet, keep your pets indoors in a/c and out of parked vehicles. nm

I actually hope these innocent pets get homes more than I care

I wish more people would spay, neuter and take care of the pets
they've already got instead of expecting everyone else to deal with their problem.  I get tired of the loose animals running around our neighborhood.  People just dump their animals because they can't be bothered to care for them.  We've got hundreds of cats running around having kittens all over the place.  The kittens wind up feral.  My pets are "rescues", but I can't take on any more.  I won't, either.  It's like kids.  Don't have more than you can properly take care of.  Don't expect me to take care of the problem you created either.
They are giving good stuff to pets and newbies, and if you
gave them your blood for a year they think they can walk all over you.
I do dog sitting but screen owner and pets carefully. I won't take just anyone.
:)
It is amazing how pets really become real members of the family, isn't it?
Gotta lov'em! :-)
As per your request, Pets and Entertainment forums have been added.

Yes, good parents have nannies for their little pets, kiss their brothers
like they are boyfriends, keep vials of their ex-boyfriend's blood, bounce from relationship to relationship, and break up marriages. Not that Brad is without blame there, but married is off limits. AJ's own father has voiced concerns over her mental status.
Dinner and pets aren't the same as a medical emergency. Capiche?

Its HOT, folks. Give water 2 pets and check on elderly!

We live in the country in the south - been using it for years with kids and pets - no worries or pro

Good for you, I love people who rescue homeless pets. I take in cats myself

Bad things? what bad things? people's being petty and small?
x
Never an easy decision ... you have my sympathy. Pets are part of the family ... hurts to lose them

Nothing this year. We ALWAYS got a cool surprise in the past, but this year nothing. :-( nm

You can't make things worse and could make things better.
The skinny woman may be ill.  The guy might not know the dog is a nuisance.  Who knows?  Maybe it is not as forbidding as it seems and maybe they just need to be asked in a nice way.
I do a lot of the same things you do...

I also go water the plants - sometimes just being out in the sunshine for 20 minutes or so wakes me up and gets me going again.

I also do the online thing for my kids:  Gap, Old Navy and Abercrombie Kids.  I occasionally look at Sephora for me.

And yes, exercise does help.  I either take a run first thing in the a.m. or around 1:00.  The morning gives me a totally different spin on the day - I feel better in general the whole day and much more positive.  If I wake up too late for that, I end up going around 1:00, as I find that around that time I start wandering mentally anyway.  I used to feel guilty for taking the hour or so away but realized if I added up all the minutes I spend staring at the screen (waiting for the words to type themselves) it would be more than an hour.  So I try to use my time wisely and for myself by exercising and feel more focused and positive afterwards.  This is a habit I'm still creating.  I've been doing this a while now and I still some days have to convince myself it's okay and the hour is going to help me, not hurt me.  After I'm done I'm always glad I went.

Thanks for posting this question - you gave me some good ideas.

There are a few things you can do. Don't

answer phones, let machine pick up. Turn ringer off on cell phone. Stay off boards, turn tv down or off. I don't know about others but I need a little background noise so I keep tv on a volume where I can hear it but not truly understand what is going on. I keep it on the music channel just so I hear something in the background. Don't think about the dirty dishes, laundry or 100 other things needed to be done in the house.

If you need a drink, get one before you start, same goes for a snack. I get a bowl of something to snack on before I start working such as pretzels, carrot sticks, m&m, etc. I bought an oven timer to keep on my desk. I set it for 3 to 4 hours and then take a little break when it goes off. When I first sign on I can work for 4+ hours w/o getting up.

Make macros of phrases. The phrases are the key. If you're forever typing something over and over and saying "I should make a macro for it," don't say it, do it. Closed head injury precautions are set as "chip-" in shorthand. I also do a lot of consults and at the end they have their own little "thank you for allowing me to participate" statement. I use the docs last name with a T at the end of it for the word thank you such as "SmithT" because not all the thank you statements are the same. WDI is written discharge instructions, wci wound care instructions. Macro your labs and headings so you don't have to keep typing them. If the word or abbr. needs to capitalized make a macro. igg comes out as IgG. The less you hit your shift key, it's saving a key stroke. 05m comes out as 0.5% Marcaine, etc. Make something you can remember. I'm at the point now where I've done the same accounts for years and hardly make macros, maybe 1 or 2 a day. If I make a macro today I write it in a notebook sitting right in front of me. It's a quick reminder for me.

Hope some of this helps.

Many things are said here...sometimes...

people get a bit testy.  But, guess what?  We are all adults, aren't we?  Long ago I learned to not take offense to things, remarks, opinions, whatever - as most often taking offense only drags you down personally.  Why let things get to you?

MQLover has every right to express her opinion.  Is she the only one who ever slams back when she gets slammed?  Hardly.  That is a natural reaction.  It's a defense mechanism.  We don't all feel kissy/huggie all the time, and we especially don't when we express our thoughts and get smacked for them.

If someone's post irritate or bother you, why not just skip them?  There's a heck of a lot more to life than getting upset of bb posts.

The things I do.
% of utilities, -phone, water, electric-mileage, internet, interest on auto payment, repair to car, cleaning equipment for office, repairs to office, cell phone, equipment-foot pedals, soft ware, supplies, paper, pens, etc.  I have often wondered if I could claim my PJs as uniform expense.
