Line count verification in MS Word.
I get paid on a 65-character line with spaces, no headers/footers. When I highlight the text I type (nothing else), and then check under Tools, Word Count, characters with spaces, and then divide by 65, I'm still coming up about 6-8% higher than my company's line count. Am I doing something wrong?

I know for a fact, as I even called the manufacturer on the telephone to clarify. I was so annoyed because my QA person just kept changing it to lower case - until now of course when I cleared that up.

so 5 (or #5 as I would type it) is the thickest -- I would use the pound sign to make sure that I was not talking about "five silk sutures" ... I don't know why but my vague recollection is that I "decided" to type 0 without a pound sign, except because size versus number is not applicable.
I have also read that for example 2-0 can also be written 00 and 3-0 as 000 which I think is a hold over from wire gauge measurements.

My current BOS irritant is the "rule" to leave off the 0.0 in for example 98.0 as a temp which is okay but orthopedic screw sets, called 4.0, four-point-oh, seems a bit rule-bound. I can't seem to get an opinion on this ...

Meanwhile... my favorite cure for just about everything, that seems to work more often than not, is to shut everything down, and I do mean everything--turn off the printer, turn off the computer it's attached to, take out the paper and put it back in, maybe even take out the ink cartridge and put it back in, maybe even disconnect the printer (with the power OFF!) and reconnect it; then turn everything back on, in the normal order, and see if that cures the problem. Sometimes when things haven't been powered down in a while, or a computer hasn't been shut down and restarted, things can get confused internally. No, that's not a very technical explanation, but I once had a programmer tell me to shut down and reboot the server at least once a month because if you don't, it "can't find the top of its own desk." (Guess that IS a technical explanation.)
If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you... try tech support on the manufacturer's website.
