What we need

What we need is governmental support. We can send complaints to the IRS and labor board, but any changes are dependent on their actions. Also, if you have a problem with a company and quit, but there are umpteen other MTs ready and willing to be treated like doormats, what action will occur? You will simply be out of a job. The underbilling is ridiculous; it is those 2 women and others like them who are putting us out of work. If it isn't individuals, it is companies that are underbidding. If there was some kind of law against it, that would be a big help; this is why I say that the government has the ability to make changes; individuals have very little ability. As individuals, about all we can do is to write letters to the Labor Board, IRS, senators, congressional representatives, etc., etc. Also, if only AAMT, or whatever they are currently called, were in our corner. They seem to have a lot of clout, but are more supportive of the industry than the individual MTs. Some of us thought about organizing a union, but there simply is not enough interest.
There are other alternatives for MTs who want to work from home. For instance, there are some very good MLM companies. Contrary to popular belief, these are not the old "pyramid schemes" of the past. There are people making big $$$. I could write a book on my research regarding this option, but won't post it here.
Good luck to you.
