Maybe you can try a CD (mp3) format or rip a CD into a format that your software does play.

what software are U using to play
the wav file? You should just be able to save to your desktop and open your software and then in your software, go to where U saved the wav file and dbl click to open it. At that point, you can step on your foodpedal and it will play

You will need wav player software on your PC for your pedal to play
files. You can download Express Scribe for free and it works really well. Then you will need your clients to use digital recorders to record their dictation. The dictation can then be saved to a jump drive, disk, etc. or uploaded to an FTP site that you maintain and you will then be able to download the files from the FTP site to your PC and transcribe them.
Can you get the file to your desktop to see if Media Player will play it, just so you know

free voice file software
I am in need of a software that plays .dvf files. I currently use Gear Player, and although it plays a multitude of different files, I can't get it to play .dvf. Does anyone know of a free one online I can try? Thanks!!
Technically, the software plays back the .wav file.

I ran a virus scan, and there is no virus detected. The file type is application/octet-stream. I contacted the service to see if they can tell me what I am doing wrong. I probably have to download a winzip program or something.

You say you're trying to download a "wav file"; is that the correct file type? I don't work with PC-Dart so I'm not familiar with the file extension that program generates. Check the file extension (.wav, .mp3, .vox) and make sure that it is a file type that can be downloaded automatically by Express Scribe. Click on Settings and then Automatic Incoming. Select the incoming method that you are using for these files, then click on the Properties button. on the left-hand side of the screen, there are only four types of files that will be automatically (or manually) downloaded directly into ES. They are .dct, .wav, .mp3, and .aif. If the PC-Dart files are not one of these four file types, you will have to download those files to a folder on your computer and then load them into ES from that folder.
You want also want to make sure that you can play the PC-Dart file types. To do this, open Express Scribe, click on Settings, then File Types. There are several file types listed; make sure that the file type you want to play is checked.

Thanks all. I have to type diagnoses in all caps and the software does not allow me...sm
to block and capitalize so I have been looking for a way I can use my ShortHand abbreviations in all caps but from what I am understanding there probably is not a good way to do this other than holding down the Shift key while I transcribe which is what I have been doing or making separate entries as caps which is most likely too time consuming as I have thousands. Thanks for your input.

I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank. When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! You can save the SH file in a text file and import to IT that way. sm
You may have to do some cleanup in the SH text file, but it sure would be faster than re-entering them all manually.
File taxes under the name on file w Social Security....
Name on W2 doesn't have to match, but your tax return has to match SS records. They don't want your marriage license or anything else. Did that for 13 years as instructed by IRS. Didn't have to change it with SS until state changed rules requiring drivers license to match SS records. Still use my maiden name in some limited circumstances.
A friend of mine got one and she is finding that some of her software, specifically her ISP software

If u need server software, try guild ftp. If just user software
then try cuteftp, coffeecupftp, or wsftp. They don't charge a line rate and I believe guildftp server software is still free.

I'm no techie, but it sounds like they might've sent the wrong file by mistake. Or could it be a program you need for testing/working for them that they sent? What is the name of the file (if it is something you can say here)?

Another big factor is software. If the software isn't
transcription friendly, it can really hurt your bottom line.
Otherwise, $1.20 per report is a pretty decent rate for radiology.

No, you don't type directly into ES. You type in Word -
or whatever their platform is, just like you did with your tapes.
Then you do your line count in Word or the platform.
You should type them. I usually type them in parentheses following the diagnosis.

ok, got a CD-R for Christmas with old family photos/video on it. How do I play it? I put it in my CD player and it said check disk. I put it in my Computer and nothing happened. I found media play and pressed play but still nothing. What am I missing? Thanks.

I don't think there is any way to play the CD--sm
like your digital voice player. you should be able to transfer the files off the CD to your computer and then change them to whatever your voice player will play, i.e. wav. dss, or whatever, but to play the CD like that, uh..no.

There might be a setting to select the foot pedal and/or the type of files.
yes. they are used to play wav files on your --sm
digital wav player, so they can be called wav pedals too. Although some programs require a specific type of pedal because of the way they are wired. USB port is pretty universal and the simplest, but some programs like the serial port ones so it is wired as to left pedal, right pedal, fast forward, reverse, etc. but they are essentially the same thing.

you have to make these hurtful things into humor somehow to cope. or explore why they don't consider this work -- the pay? that you sit down all day? but most of all, YOU know that its not only work, but work that very few can do at this level well. if you'd like to buddy-up and vent personally to me, feel free. Its too bad your extended family doesn't appreciate all that you do -- but i'm sure your immediate household does. Anyone working MT, taking care of spouse and children and home deserves applause -- my hat's off to you!!
