Favorite keyboard?
Is there a really sturdy, responsive keyboard out there that you DON'T have to pound? Not an ergonomic one...I just can't get used to those. Dell is horrible.
What is your favorite brand of Keyboard?...
A gal I work with once said her most important purchase as a medical Transcriptionist was her keyboards. I had never gave much thought to a keyboard, as my most important purchases focused on comfort (chair) and clarity (headphones). I am now in the market for a keyboard and what she said about a keyboard has me real curious. Is there something I have been missing?
So the question I have is, do you have a favorite keyboard (brand) and/or style (ergonomic), and why? Thank you for your input!
What's your favorite food. Favorite in that you could only have one last meal what would it be?
Indulge me while I stare at computer screen waiting for Q work that isn't there.
I love spaghetti but only served with a great salad with olive oil and some garlic bread. Can't have pasta alone. And needless to say a glass of red wine. No dessert, just extra spaghetti.
I use a MSFT Natural keyboard at home and the laptop keyboard on the road. nm
If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co
That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself. They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make. Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that. Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints. I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good. You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.
I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research. Way too much info.
I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

Has anyone used the Smartboard keyboard? Everyone tell what keyboard they have and rate it nm

Kinesis Keyboard and keyboard tray
Okay, any lefties use this keyboard? How long did it take to get used to? I use my left thumb for the space bar and I notice on a diagram of the keys that I would always be hitting the backspace key.
I'm really interested in getting a better keyboard. I destroyed my left hand and wrist the other week when I fell because I'm becoming a real klutz.
I bought the Soft Flex gloves, but they only help a little bit. My production is down because of it and it's driving me crazy. I can only type an hour without stopping and then have to rest the hand for some time.
I did buy a Microsoft 2000 keyboard but have yet to recieve it. Is this a good one?
Do you use a keyboard tray with it or just set it on the desk? Do you think a kayboard tray would be the least expensive item right now that would help with a straight keyboard?
Any info you can provide to help me in making any decision would be greatfully appreciated.
'Scuse me for being old school, but I've only ever used a straight keyboard.
Does anyone know of a keyboard that has the backspace key in the center of the keyboard? NM

Split keyboard mounted on chair arms versus split keyboard on desk
For longtime comfort which is best - split keyboard mounted on chair arms or split keyboard to be used on the desk?
Also, why the preference over split keyboards that come totally apart versus split keyboards that are permanently connected at the top?
I want to revamp my office and there are so many different options.
Gold touch makes a keyboard without number pad. Also the evoluent keyboard has the number pad on th
It is a very small keyboard and has laptop keys which are very quiet and light to the touch. Almost no noise.
he was my least favorite as well, but what comes around goes
Brenda cheated on him with just about everyone, even a woman, the first season? Still in shock. There are three more shows left, who else is a goner?
My favorite is
tea sweetened with apple juice, maybe squeeze of lemon or lime or if I want to get real crazy some of that bottled pomegranite juice! Very refreshing and no refined sugar.

My favorite, too, and...
you can find great sales. I always keep an extra on hand, just in case.
I had wrist/elbow problems until I started using the 4000. It's a work and a wonder!
However, now I can't type on a straight keyboard to save my soul. It's a fair trade, I think.
My favorite is...sm...
Bytescribe wav player. I've tried Express Scribe and Start Stop. Express Scribe doesn't have good sound, and Start Stop was very buggy. I've heard the older versions are better. I bought mine in December 2005. Wouldn't work right after several install/uninstalls. Tech support couldn't help me. I didn't have time to send it back before while it was eligible to return.
I play DSS files, and there's a trick to getting DSS files to play really really well on a Bytescribe. Bytescribe wav player was made for wav files. You can email me if you want to know how to do this or call Bytescribe. They have another program you can use that converts DSS to Wav files. It's already on your computer if you use the Wavplayer.
I would recommend Bytescribe if you're playing Wav files and Olympus DSS player pro if you're playing DSS files, although I've never tried DSS player pro but heard it's good.
I think it's worth the money to invest in a good player. It will pay for itself over and over again in productivity and less mistakes because you can hear better. It also pays to have a very good sound card on your computer, especially if you're on a laptop.
favorite and most used
The Stedman's Pathology and Lab Medicine Words, 4th edition. You can find anything in there from bacteria to blood tests, etc. love it!
My favorite one of all is
woman came in with shortness of breath and difficulty breathing after eating p___is. It was supposed to be after eating "peanuts."
my favorite was
when I worked inhouse at a hospital a girl that worked in medical records was talking to her coworker who also did medical records and said loud enough that I would hear "a monkey could do transcription." I guess insecurity plays a part in this kind of talk. They must want their job to look more important. Sorry, I cannot think of other reasons why people talk this way.
My favorite....
CHIEF COMPLAINT: Drunk.
and my favorite..
I love it when they think they're being helpful and spell a word but spell it hopelessly wrong!
My favorite
I really do love doing PT and OT except when they do their discharge summaries.
Why? Because they have to list how many treatments, no-shows, and cancellations the patient had.
most of the time dictators have this information gathered before they dictate, but there's this one woman who constantly has us listen as she turns each page and counts up the totals. So basically we hear "patient was seen... page turn 1, page turn 2, page turn 3, etc., until she gets to the total number of visits, (which can sometimes get upwards of 40!)
then she starts over turning pages and adding up the no-shows
and THEN she starts over turning pages and adding up the cancellations

My favorite is the doc who either
has a conversation with other docs and/or nurses when they should be dictating, or answering a phone call while dictating. I do VR and all that garbage goes into the report, and I have to delete all of it. Of course, some conversations can get quite interesting.
Here is my favorite
http://upin.ecare.com/
I use this multiple times a day. You can put in a partial first and/or last name and search by specialty, search by zipcode, search by state, or search any combination of those. Quick and easy to use, very basic.
Ops always my favorite
from day 1. Started on ops as a beginner, still doing them and love them. Don't mind the other basic 4, but find all the meds and lab results annoying at times.
favorite snack
I have so many "favorites" I can't even begin to choose.
Favorite snack
I luv Vienna sausage and crackers. Can also be a quick lunch!
What are your favorite dictators?
I like the ones who right when they begin dictating, turn around and speak directly into their armpit. Or how about the ones who carry on a complete conversation in English to the nurse next to them, then when they start dictating they sound like one of those auction guys who have had a few drinks?
My current favorite....
revises every sentence at least 3 times without fail. My first runner up dictates on a cell phone, drops every other call, and spells out every other word in case I don't know how to spell anything with more than 6 letters.
Favorite dictators
I have one guy, who really seems nice, thank's you each time at the end of the report, apologises if he has to correct something he said, long reports, BUT, he usually dictates at home, while cooking, bathing the kids and NOW, we must have a new dog because we are deciding to train it while dictating .
It's a verbat account so I really should have put in all the "sits, stays, good dog..would have made a fortune.
BUT (again), if it were'nt for the fact that the ER he works in is over 140 miles away, I'd have been in the ER, requesting him, to treat me for my ruptured ear drum, when he must have forgot the doggie treats and this dog started barking, loud, blew my eardrums out, had to crank the volume wayyyyyyyyy down, could NOT hear him, except for the good dog's and sit, I'll play later
My two favorite specialties...
...radiology and op reports. In speaking with MTs, people who like one tend to like the other. I think it's because they both are fairly technical and have "flow." You're moving through a procedure or a test, and when you're done, your done.
I got into radiology without knowing anything about it and was the team leader within months. Just make sure you have a good reference or two, know your bones, muscles, and physiology, be willing to look up names of isotopes, machines, etc., and you'll do great!
favorite season
Hi
My season is definitely fall. I am up here in northern Maine and it is so pretty with the leaves changing, etc. Of course then comes all the snow - and I don't even mind the cold or the snow but since I am getting to be "old and brittle" I am scared of the ice. However, I really am looking forward to October.
Fall is my favorite
Summer is too hot!! Fall is just right and football starts!
This is my new favorite show...
.
I will never tell my favorite song, never, never!
Hint: It is a Christmas carol for MTs.
bathroom is actually my favorite because everything
And the nice smelling cleaning products are fun to use. Anything with an orange scent. I'd have to say the least favorite is dishes, I tend to let them pile up.
My mom's favorite thing to do to (sm)
me and my older brother was make us "kiss and make up." You can bet we knocked the crap off real quick!
you know my favorite line - SM
Yes, I'm being sarcastic when I say this - I love it when I get resumes or letters that say "I have a child and need to work at home." (Note: I left out the ones that say I have a child with special needs).
"Send me a test, 'cause I sure would like to work at home and its easy." (this particular resume's experience listed cashier at Safeway. That's it. Nothing more. No transcription experience, courses, nothing).
"I'm planning on having children and absolutely must work at home. So send me a test to try." Since when did having children mean that you automatically get to work at home? While it would be nice, not all jobs, i.e. lawyers, doctors, nurses, etc. give you the nicety of working at home.
I am typing this verbatim as was sent to me - "I have been currently typing for a fiscist three times a week for one hour for two weeks and work retale clothing and the book mobile. I require $25/hour."
Yep, that's right. She wants $25/hour and her only experience is typing for two weeks in a job that she cannot spell. She wanted $25/hour.
I'm a M&Ms addict, so that's my favorite...
