OP said she was burned out, not incompetent. practically everyone in the health care field deals with burnout. I have known dozens of nurses who have taken a year off nursing, to do something or do nothing and recharge their batteries. Most come back to nursing, but not all.
Why do you think doctors take so many vacations? If they didn't, their careers would last about 10 years.
When you are dealing with people's medical problems which by definition include their social and emotional issues as well, you cannot avoid burnout.
You need to grow up.
