Lucky thing for me my MD is in the office tomorrow morning, so I made an appointment for tomorrow.

If it is strep, I'll have her give me a shot of penicillin.  That's what I usually do for strep.  My stomach can't hardly handle taking antibiotics.  I end up with vomiting and diarrhea which makes me feel even worse!

Thing is, I work for a hospital and we already have one girl off indefinitely for medical reasons.  A couple of ladies didn't log on until late today because we had thunderstorms in the area.  And we are way, WAY out of TAT for OPs and Discharges.  So, I feel kind of bad taking a sick day.  My supervisor is so stressed.  She's been begging us to work OT for the last couple of weeks.  How can I call her and tell her I'm sick?

I'm halfway through my shift anyway.  I'll be all right.  The Motrin is really helping and then I can take it easy all weekend.

Thanks for listening.

that was just plain ugly, sorry I read that post (NM)

Our tax returns are outsourced. Our credit history is outsourced. Our employers know everything
our age, our residence, our credit (if they want it), any criminal activity, etc.  What is new here?  You apply for health insurance and your employee knows your health background.  What is new here?  Privacy is long gone.
I just opened the post regarding Jen having an ugly nose and there was the OSi ad. No hunt here. I
the post about Jen's ugly nose lol

I guess they are enjoying their ad campaign on here though trying to drive the moderators nuts
I meant it in a good way, and I will not turn this into a huge ugly post.
I am not a "paranoid mass of jelly", for Heaven's sakes! But I have lived thru having neighbor children try to poison my puppies over our fence in similar circumstances - not identical, but similar.  These same kids used to stuff picked flowers in my mailbox, and I never knew how to take it.  I just asked that she be extra cautious. Obviously you ladies have been blessed with not being confronted in life with strange "encounters" like this - I have, and have tried to learn from it. There used to be no more trusting person than myself.  I have learned, though, to be cautious in situations like this - not paranoid, just cautious. Wisdom, some would call it? For what its worth, my sister is a psychiatrist, and she thought the flowers creepy as well, but in a different analytical light - with her mother's and sibling(s) death of late, and her expressing that she wanted the puppy killed, to my sister, she said they could be symbolic of flowers on a grave.  Not paranoid - she's nearly 60 years old and deals with school-aged kids on a daily basis. Her "job", so to speak. Again, probably a 100% innocent gesture, but to those of us who have had encounters with the "children from H*ll", it could be eery.  My post was meant out of genuine concern for Puppy Mom!
Disney thread still on this page down under the ugly names post. nm

I was just going to post that same thing!
I went to daycare for one day.  My mother got so upset with them because they parked me in front of the TV set while all the other kids were outside that we never went back.  I was horribly shy as a child, too.  I don't know if not being in daycare or preschool had anything to do with it or if it's just my personality.  Maybe some kids are just more prone to anxiety and social disorders.  I do know that my oldest child, the one who went to daycare the most, is a social butterfly.  My youngest child, the one who didn't go to daycare much at all, is the one that sometimes hides behind me or acts shy if we're in a crowded area.  I had to "stick around" the school during the first two weeks of kindergarten until he got used to everything.  It could be his personality, too, because he's more like me while our oldest is like Dad.  The old genetics versus environment debate.  LOL  I haven't been shy for years now, so I outgrew it.
See my post above about the same thing...
MTSOs do get way more!  When the hospital I transcribed looked into it, they wanted 3x what I charged.
Never would post a thing like that...sm
I would never call anybody paranoid. It's not my place to make such a value judgement. Had to be someone else.
Good post but one thing.....sm

you said you'd wait until you become financially secure before getting married so you could then could leave him and be okay $$-wise.

I left after 13 years of marriage and we pretty much had nothing....my sanity being numero uno.  The stats are this....that after 5 years of divorce, women are in better shape than men financially and emotionally.  That's what I've read and that's how it also happened for me.  I was in better shape than him 5 years later.  So, don't undercut yourself.  We can make it on our own whether we have a man in our life or not!!!!  It's an old wives tale from post WWII I do believe that women are not *complete* without a man and that is a total crock of s**t.....in my mind/heart/soul.

I stated the same thing in another post...sm
I am an IC directly for a small rural hospital in a generally rural state.  Most of the hospitals in my surrounding area have either inhouse MT or remote MT and the medical records dept manages them.  I started inhouse and then have been home for almost 13 years for the same hospital.  I have also done part time work for the nationals.  I basically get paid about the same, maybe more, without all the headaches of having to go through a national company.  I raised my rates 2-3 years ago and the hospital looked into a national company but found I was much, much cheaper and stayed with me. This year, I again raised my rates and they agreed with no questions.  Local MT jobs are out there.  You just need to hound these people until how beneficial for everyone it would be to hire locally.
See post above about a money thing.
That's all that it is. Promoting someone inexperienced to QA for less money. I miss the days when quality mattered rather than this greedy corporate mentality that seems to rule now.
There are good points and there are bad and ugly points. Unfortunately, the bad and ugly get
deleted.  Just the other day there was info and it seems to be more positive.  Like any MT job, some love it, some hate it.  But, having been employed there, the bad parts are/were true.   The changes sound great but not great enough to make me change my mind about working for them.  I do say she pays well for the area.  She is one of the rare business owners who actually started out as an MT..I think that makes a big difference in pay.
Look again, sweetie

no sweetie don't think so - think it's because

I was thinking the same thing before reading your post!

One thing I left off in the original post...
is that we are basically wanting to state that we don't want any gifts, but we also know that oftentimes people insist on giving you something anyway and want to know what to give us.
its all part of the job sweetie.

Ahhh sweetie (sm)

I'm SO glad you saw this!  Lunch time is perfect.  If you need to cry in my ear, I'll be crying right along with you, so don't you worry about that, k?  In the meantime, try to rest, & please know there is a light at the end of this tunnel...it might seem a little dim right now, but believe me, it's there

Talk to you tomorrow

Your "name" says it all, Sweetie. Blech. nm
.
What a sweetie you've got. Going to print out your
message & leave it laying somewhere so my hubby will see it :o) I'm 5' and with my chair all the way down, I have to sit on the front edge of the chair so I can reach my foot pedal. Killing my back & circulation !!
Was tickled to read the other replies. Really was beginning to wonder if I was about the only female left that was of short stature.
Just out of curiosity - where do you find clothes that fit?? I'm not only short, but small-boned, & finding it impossible to find clothes anymore that are "age-appropriate":o)
Wow, you have some issues to deal with sweetie
I'm not saying that what you are saying isn't true....I do think parents need to be careful about the sort of behavior you described because a sensitive child can take it to heart and feel hurt; HOWEVER, the OP was expressing her feelings about how their first day went, not that they were GONE. Had she wanted to celebrate that they were gone she would have posted this morning after the bus pulled away and exclaimed YIPPEE!!! No, she posted when they RETURNED HOME and was happy that they had a pleasant 1st day of school.

As I said, there is a valid point to what you say...just not applicable to the person you directed it toward.

Have a great day!
Sweetie, I am making around $12.00 a DAY, TRIE THAT

No sweetie, not dense...just trying to understand
xx
Thank you what a sweetie getting up at 6:00 to answer my question. That was what I did.

l love Taylor, I think he's a sweetie and seems genuine.

The FUNNY thing is that in the amount of time it takes for them to post a message

whoever posted awhile back about Tahiti Sweetie -thank you!
My 18 yo daughter and I went to Bath & Body Works - I bought one for her and one for me - what a treat !  Yum !
Has anyone tried Tahiti Sweetie lotion from Bath and Body Works?

My sister gave it to me for my birthday and it makes me wish I were on an island.

outsourced for sure

I was outsourced and went to VR
because it was the same place I have typed for for over 15 years now. I am retirement age and really do not have to work as much nor do I want to work as much as I did years ago on straight, VR or anything. Having said that, VR on the work I do is like taking candy from a baby. I average about $25 an hour and only work part-time with my having cut my hours back. I am happy camper.
Is it possible that teaching can be outsourced?
the date is 2014, It a nice day. You drop off your kids to public school to for them to watch a huge plasma screen that has a teacher in it. And guess what... Its via Satellite, from India. Im getting goosebumps.... Arg. Its also outsourced. Oh im having a nightmare. I hope its its just a nightmare.
Must be a outsourced Company
Is that for real? Thats still 1750 lines
being outsourced to TRINIDAD!! NM
.
How many of those outsourced MTs have even seen snow??
:=
Department outsourced
After going through this 2 years ago I feel your pain. Though there are some positives to working at home it is a whole different ballgame. Personally I miss my coworkers and just the general atmosphere of the hospital. I keep hoping more hospitals will realize they still need some in-house staff, at the very least to do QA on what a lot of the services are turning out. It seems to me it has become nothing more than churn and burn with the emphasize on turn-around time, not quality. When I look up old reports in our system I am appalled at some of the stuff that goes out, and I am on accounts that require American MTs. It is really sad what this "profession" has become.

Just because work is outsourced, unless
you have access to the entire medical record, not all personal info is available, only what the doctor chooses to include in his dictation. MTs do not necessarily have access to the entire record with the billing info and such.
hospital outsourced...
Believe me I didn't leave by choice! I had a great job with amazing benefits, however our hospital started outsourceing 5 years ago and slowly but surely all the work dried up and our department faded away...

I avoided Focus Infomatics due to their offshoring, but now, I don't know, they are sounding pretty good. I just want eScription back. Anyone hiring? :)
They don't have in-house anymore - it's all outsourced.
I know because the service I work for does their work.
An Outsourced Life -- anyone see that on MSNBC?

I didn't know whether to laugh or be disgusted, so I have decided to do both.

Just saw a story on MSNBC about some jerk (an American jerk, looks like the biggest geek in the world) who has outsourced all his worries to a Pakistan company and a young, pretty Pakistani girl named "Honey" takes care of answering all his emails for work, for home, for his family, etc.  Hired a second Pakistani woman, a middle-aged woman (forget her name) to handle his WIFE.  When his wife is upset with him or he with her, he emails this Pakistani woman and she handles it -- emails the wife and argues FOR this jerk.  Even picks out the gifts he gives his kids and wife.  OMG.

What a stupidman for doing it and, I must say, a stupid woman for putting up with that.

How's that for Americans outsourcing everything and sending it overseas?!

Is work continuously being outsourced?
I'm just starting on a medical transcription career. But it sounds like too many companies are firing American workers and outsourcing to other countries. Is this common? Maybe I shouldn't pay for my training and try something else. Thanks.

amelia
I suppose all the work that is outsourced
Makes no sense.  What do they expect for 7-10 cpl?
I wonder why when a department is outsourced/offshored sm
the physicians never have a say in it even though most of them don't like it?  They are the ones who bring in the revenue, after all, so why shouldn't they have a say in what goes on as regards patient care?
That's because Dell's customer service is outsourced to India. sm

The guy probably answered yes, yes, yes to all your quesions and didn't understand a single word.

Sorry to hear that. All the hospitals that outsourced on me went with US-based companies and we were
nm
I'm there with ya! I worked for a hospital that outsourced overflow to a very large, VERY SM

well-known service.  The quality of the work was shockingly bad.  There's no way to describe it except to say it was painfully obvious that the MTs on our account had no business being MTs.  They didn't even have the very basic skills for the job, let alone the medical terminology.

I had the opportunity to read through the contract, and there was a paragraph in the contract that clearly stated that not only did the service promise to adhere to a specific TAT, but also promised high quality, proofread reports.  Basically saying that they employed a highly qualified QA staff that insured nearly error free reports.  That's the OUT clause as far as I'm concerned.  I started a file of every report with errors from the service, every ridiculous error.

A new supervisor for our department was hired and her first order of business was to cut the flab out of department.  She told us that the service doing our overflow was being paid something like $60,000 a MONTH!  The hospital was paying the service 45 cpl.  Now do the math!  The service gets 45 cpl and pays you and me 7 to 8 cpl to transcribe for them or even worse pays 2 cpl for an India-based MT and 3 cpl for an American QA person to edit and correct it, so that's only 5 cpl they end up paying.  That's quite a profit.  I vowed the day I found all this out to NEVER work for a national service again and especially not THAT service.

The new supervisor was against outsourcing which was good news.  She set out to renegotiate the contract or drop the service all together.  I threatened her with breach of contract and that's where my little file came in handy.  Needless to say, the service backed off and we not outsource overflow to a service local to our area and a much more reasonable rate.

My advice to you is start your file and keep track of everything.  Tell your boss to reread the contract, especially those paragraphs that speak to what the service promises to provide for the inflated line rate!

Good Luck!

In 5 years there won't be any transcription departments in any hospital. All will be outsourced.
Same thing happened to me and if those HIM hags who control our destiny think it's a good thing they are so WRONG.  Life has been hard since having to work at a service, and I refused to work for the Monster MTSO that took my job as a matter of principle.  I think we should all write to Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Amy Klobuchar (the MT in MN can write to her), etc., and express our strong needs to  have MT jobs and American information STAY in America with American MTs.
Don't go there!!! It is ugly, ugly, ugly.
