You have 911. There are local hospitals
with free nurse referral lines. That's just for starters.

You just take the cake for stupidity with your original question and now your silly offended replies.
The local hospitals probably have websites and you
can see if they have any transcription openings posted, look in the classifieds to see if any clinics are hiring, etc.  I don't know that there are very many MT companies with in-house people anymore, but you can post resume on the various job boards.

that still have in-house. My local hospital did this and the education/experience/hands-on help provided was golden. Then go home and work - you will be viewed as a step up if expierience is in-house.

DO NOT pay for mentoring.
This is very true. None of our local hospitals outsource their pathology, as far as I know. But...sm
I work for MQ's Seattle office and for a time was assigned to a pathology account there. I was always curious how/why they outsourced their pathology. Anyway, I quickly found it BORING (especially the gross dictations) and asked to be taken off the account because I made NO money (very short jobs + software slower than molasses = no money).

Hope this helps some.

Unless you want to work on site, that is. If so, check Manpower and the newspapers for starters. nm

Try monsterjobs.com or careerbuilder.com and submit your resume. nm

Yeah, but hospitals are already largely using VR in hospitals. (nm)

Buy local. The local stores pay taxes to support your city and state. (SM)
Using online and catalogues does nothing to promote the local economy.  We complain about outsourcing and about the big companies gobbling up all the work so the jobs at local hospitals are gone, yet we do the same thing when we buy on ebay, catalog, and these web sites that may be located any place in the world as their primary business location.
Now that Monster.com has been hacked and

confidential and personal data compromised, I am not confortable posting my resume anywhere, but really am seriously looking for a job with a decent company.  I have years of experience in transcription, management, and other areas, but right now my hands are aching because of transcription and I need to move on.   And I would just like to work for a company where someone says thank you once in a while and if you do extra projects..

Any agency you use should be licensed and bonded.
and always to check to make sure that's really the case because some tell you they are when they are not, just to save money on the fees and make themselves appear more credible and trustworthy.

Merry Maids is a good start!
As far as creditors, once you signed up with the agency, they have sm
NO CHOICE but to work with the creditors and YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT calls from them. There are plenty of laws on the books protecting people like you. You need to contact your agency ASAP and tell them which creditors are harrassing you (yes, that is what they are doing if you cannot afford to pay them), and quit talking to them. Trust me on this one. My husband and I years back got into a major bind and worked with a credit agency where we learned about a lot of laws.

So, we began writing our own cease and desist letters directing them to our agency or saying "we want to deal with the original creditor and not YOU", i.e., capital one, etc., and they left us alone. We cleared out debt and it's been pleasant ever since.

So, you have fallen upon rough times. We all have. You HAVE options. You can keep your house and you can have phone call-free days.
You are doing the RIGHT thing by using an agency instead of filing for bankruptcy. Too many people are filing because they see no end, but there are ways to avoid bankruptcy. Plenty of ways.

Good luck
It is JAHCO and having worked for a gov't agency
with rules also in place - there was a 5-day rule to have your interview dictated - although they then wanted typed within 7 days - the biggie was having dictated w/i 5 days so would be fresh in the mind of the dictator - and think that sort of applies here too... obviously H&P needs to be dictated so patient can be admitted and paper work started but in my mind thinking OP needs to be dictated STAT while still fresh in mind of doctor before he forgets a lot of the details!  There are also safety issues obviously - H&P first, any consult next before surgery so surgeon can have all the facts, but just because dictated does not mean MT has to kill herself to get it done - what is that saying about 'your incompetence is not my emergency'............Or something like that????
This gov't agency does not prohibit offshoring,

that is, it was not explicitly or implicitly stated in the RFP.  But I have a feeling they knew by the ridiculously low price that the "C" company was funny business.  My company did state in its cover letter that the agency should inquire of other vendors whether they offshore work.

Anyway, my company is not going to protest because the contract went to, I have to say, a great competitor.  Frankly, we don't want to be bothered because the agency made prospective vendors jump through hoops of fire for a small amount of work each month (IMO and exp).

2 words - collection agency
Technically speaking you have to use a collection agency of some sort for a certain amount of time before being able to write it off as a bad debt. Yeah, they take like 30% sometimes if they collect the debt but 70% is better than 0%. I have done it. I have had to do it twice. One i had to write off and the other I got paid. You will have to have some proof of billing and your trying to communicate with them. I would even send them a registered letter via mail and give them 7 days or you will turn them over to collections. Add a nice fat late charge to that...i dunno 30% or so. hee hee. :)
What agency can help me with a co. who consistently underpays me....sm
then says they will have to make it up on the next paycheck. This has gone on for over a year now, with so few checks correct that it just boggles my mind. I just want to know who I can contact to make this company pay me correctly. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
Can you send it to a collection agency?

Is there any way you could send this to a collection agency?    I don't know if it would work for this, but I know that some places that give out equipment (like Direct TV, etc.) has in their contracts that the quipment is only for as long as you have the service and must be returned to them as it's still their property.

I know it's not the same thing, but it seems like this would fall into that category as it was assumed that it's still your equipment and they were only allowed to use it as they were working for you.

I agree that it's stealing.  You wouldn't go into an office and just take equipment home from there, so what gives you the right to take it from a company via mail?

Has anyone ever worked for a temp agency? sm
I am thinking of working for a temp agency for extra income. I am trying to find out what kind of testing do they do.
According to the Answers.com section of Monster.com
"Dr. Phil McGraw won a football scholarship and played as a linebacker for the University of Tulsa, but when he was injured he quit and transferred to Midwestern State University. He graduated with a B.A. in psychology in 1975, and went on to get his PhD. from the University of North Texas in 1979. He is also a pilot, with a multi-engine rating."

. . . . and what are your educational credentials, my dear?
Only 1 cup, but I'm addicted to monster drinks. nm

I get Monster drink from the corner store...

These really work for me--ingredients below

Carbonated water, sucrose, glucose, citric acid, taurine, natural flavors, sodium citrate, l-carnitine, panax ginseng root extract, ascorbic acid, caffeine, sodium chloride, niacinamide, riboflavin, guarana seed extract, inositol, glucuronalactone, pyridoxine hydrochloride, cyanobalmin.

I'd give this monster back to her mother
Bad seed. They might be able to keep this evil beast at bay for awhile but sooner or later she's going to cause a disaster of some type if she hasn't already.

saw it on monster-- "a too good to be true" job description-
for info and see what kind of a response I get. Don't want to send my resume unless it seems legit. I have 2 jobs now, just fishing for something better.
Why Employees Move On (Monster) link below

Beow is a page on Monster.com which may interest you. Its called Job Satisfaction Survey, and reveals Why Employees Move On. You can find it at http://career-advice.monster.com/career-change/job-satisfaction-survey/Home.aspx (click on this link, or copy and paste it into your web browser).

This should be good for a discussion or two...

Just DONT start a Monster account!
I did, and first of all, nothing that even vaguely resembles what I wanted to find ever comes up. Instead, my inbox is swamped with emails from them about jobs for software engineering, nursing, receptionist, etc. keep coming in, even though I was very precise about ONLY wanting to see MT & legal transcription jobs.

Tons of spyware, too. The ads for Viagra, Rolex watches and porn tripled after I joined Monster.

So finally I got bored with them and wanted to UN-subscribe. There is NO PLACE on their website where you can do that. All you can do is make your account inactive. (Though they CLAIM if you call a phone number and give them lots of person information [yeah, RIGHT! In their DREAMS!], they will unsubscribe you.)

So I finally put their website on my SPAM list, and hopefully that'll stop their emails.

DON'T put all your information on this company's website! Heaven only knows who they're giving it to.
Per above posts, often it only takes a letter or two to the company and/or right agency. Is

That's what I'm thinking, too. Our agency told us to refer ALL creditors to them
and they were awesome. I'm thinking she doesn't have a good one, either. She definitely needs to call them or switch agencies, like the one you mentioned, to help her.
I went local. Great local tech support, they know what I do and were able to set it up just for me

if the child is adorable and has charisma, i would take him to a professional modeling agency.
if they see something in him, they will pay to train him and do the photos for free as they will make money on him. if they aren't willing to do this or they want to charge you, i would think he is just like millions of other children, adorable but not so much that an agency would hire him as is. most models are "discovered" because of their charisma/beauty and don't go through the costs involved to get photos, etc. the agencies do it for them because they see potential.

I don't drink coffee, but I have to have my Coca Cola first thing in the morning and one more halfway through day.  So I guess I am a little dependent on caffeine!

MT employment
I would be interested in getting into any kind of MT employment.
Employment
Hi Cheryl - Can you email me at deb@medicaldictation.com?

IRS says I owe $$$ for self-employment tax (sm)

I just received a letter from the IRS saying I owe over $7000 for 2003.  It looks like they say I owe self-employment taxes for that year.  I was an SE that year and employed by a national.  Is this a mistake?  Has anyone else had this problem?  I'll call or go to an office tomorrow.  I'll be up all night working anyhow, but heck knows what I'll be typing while I contemplate this...

Again SE do not owe self employment tax. nm
:
That is what self-employment tax is for - sm
as stated below you fill out a schedule C and a SE when doing taxes; this takes care of your FICA (SS) and Medicare payments.
Self-employment

Just wait and see what happens.  Don't panic yet.  It is not worth it financially, but worth it for the flexibility.  I just gave up 10 years of being self-employed and flexible to go inhouse for a sure job.

Self-Employment Taxes are different, hun.
If you're getting a paystub, you're not self-employed so I don't know what you're talking about. Small business is taxed heavily in California.
employment opportunities
Have you thought about getting into medical record coding? I have a friend who went back to school at age 59 and is now coding and she had no medical experience at all -had worked for Nokia and Motorola for years and got tired of the layoffs - she loves it other than getting the overseas dictation to decifer - but that would be easier for you as an experienced transcriptionist. It's just a thought - but you would probably breeze through the course or might could find a hospital that would train you doing ER coding.
self-employment taxes
Can anyone tell me how much I need to pay for self-employment tax? I'm thinking about taking a position as an IC and I don't know what percentage needs to be taken out for taxes. Please me tell what ya'll are doing. Thanks!
SELF-EMPLOYMENT FANTASY

Am I living in a dream world thinking that I can actually find clients that will allow me to establish the rules by which I will run MY business?  Or, does being successfully self-employed in this industry mean that I must allow the clients to walk all over me?  I am flexible to a degree, but just want to be able to set limits while still being able to make a living.  Maybe I should find some other industry?

http://www.oracleti.com/employment.htm

It depends on employment status.
When I was an employee at the hospital, they paid for my phone lines.  As an IC, I pay for my phone lines.  I've only worked for one company that required me to dial into their system using my phone line, and that didn't work out due to constant phone calls bouncing me off their system.  Now I just have one phone line and DSL, so I won't work for a company that wants me to dial in to a Lanier.
TN doesn't have State self-employment tax?
I'm moving!! :)
I just checked my employment agreement and...
it only says you have to return the equipment, it doesn't say who pays for it.  Should I just shut my mouth and pay for it so they don't hold my last check for ransom?
