What I can tell you about tonsils

I had mine taken out when I was 26.  I had had tonsillitis 8 times in 10 months.  I was pretty miserable.  I will tell you that the older she gets, the worse the operation will be.  I would definately recommend getting a second opininon (perhaps an ENT), but if she really needs them out it is better to have it done now.  It took me over two weeks to recover from the surgery and I talked really funny for about a week and a half due to the intubation tube being put down my throat for surgery.  I have not heard of tonsils being removed negatively affecting someones singing voice; however, this is a question I'm sure you could also pose to a specialist and he/she could give you more information.

P.S.  I haven't had a sore throat since my surgery and that was 10 years ago.

Good luck!!

I had my tonsils out when I was 22, but only after -sm
3 bouts of tonsillitis in about 3 months. If she is not having problems, leave well enough alone. I had to stay in the hospital for 1 night and made the mistake of talking too much to my visitors...throat swelled up like a balloon the next day and hurt A LOT. Probably took about a week to feel well again. On the plus side though since then I don't get sore throats any more. In the last 18 years I have had maybe 3, and that is because I got them from my kids. But generally don't have any throat issues anymore which I totally love. But if your daughter sings, I would definitely go to a ENT and discuss it with him first IF she begins to have a lot of throat problems. If you have to drive an hour to see a doctor, do so. Good luck.
Leave the tonsils. :) sm

My son had his out at 14 and he was miserable for over 2 weeks.  He had chronic throat infections and it's helped, but not dramatically.  I wonder if it was worth it.  He doesn't snore anymore, but they took the adenoids too.

I had mine out 40 years ago and I still can't sing well.

But then I never could sign anyway.
