Re: What H.S. did you graduate from? including state - No.Hunterdon Regional NJ
Malvern High School, Malvern, Arkansas, Class of 1971!
How long does it take for a graduate to get a job? It all depends on the graduate!?
too bad we can't have regional MT dinners
and meet our fellow MTs
I think it's a regional thing (sm)
My daughter calls most adults by first name, but I let it up to the adult what they want to be called. I don't mind if kids call me Mrs.(last name), but some of my friends have their kids call me Miss (first name), and I really don't care for that - makes me feel like hired help. (this is mostly my friends who were raised in the south who do this)
I would NEVER have called someone else's mom Mom, nor would I even think of calling my MIL Mom. To me "Mom" is very special, and I only use it for mine! Now for some reason, Grandma is different to me. I can call other people's grandmas Grandma, and that doesn't feel weird to me at all.
I remember friends of mine when we were younger calling other friends moms "Amy's Mom" or "Cindy's Mom" but never just Mom.
I agree with the OP that you should have kids call you by the name that you feel comfortable. In my case, I happen to prefer my first name. May also be an age thing, too. I'm interested to read other responses.

Line rates can also be regional. Too many variables to
give somebody else hope that they might someday get the same rate. If you don't like the rate an employer offers, don't take it -- that's the only way to make them listen. It's not the baloney you seem to think it is.
15-y/o dtr. was voted Regional MVP of her entire softball league. She pitches. !!!

I did just graduate and... sm
from one of the "big 3." I got hired right away, but no matter where you go initially, the pay sucks. Only those with experience make very good money because no doctors will give a newbie a chance, hospitals won't, and the national companies know this and pay poorly. It's a catch 22, no experience=no hire, no hire=no experience. As far as having "certification," only after 2 years experience are you actually certified. If the school you checked out told you otherwise, they are just after your money.
CS graduate
Yes, that is true. I am a Career Step graduate and was hired at Spheris immediately upon passing my final exam. Spheris is an "industry partner" to CS as well as many other companies.
The course was very thorough and prepared me well for employment. Your friend made an excellent decision!
AHP MT graduate here...
It took me 5 years, but Im working 1 full-time and 1 part-time IC and making about 45,000+ and do get praised on my work... Thank you very much. LOL They never once said it was easy work and stress that working at home is not for everybody. I think some people hear what they want to hear. I could make more, but sometimes I question my career choice as it just seems too close to factory work for my taste sometimes.
You have to graduate from
a GA high school to qualify for the Hope Scholarship. Graduates with at least a B average get tuition paid for (not room/board). You also must maintain a B average through college in order to maintain it.
did u not graduate HS? curious...nm

What year did you graduate? nm

recent graduate
I just finished school back in Nov. of 2005. I've been looking and looking for a job online and still have had no luck. The only response I seem to get bac from anyone is that I don't have enough experience. Does anyone have any pointers on what I should I do, or how I should approach this field? Please help me!!! I don't know what to do anymore!!
recent graduate
I graduated this year from a community college which used the Career Step program in addition to some other courses. It was all done online. I have been working for 3 months, and have learned almost as much from working as from school so far. The difference is that you are doing 800-1200 lines a day so you are exposed to a lot more information. However, I don't believe I would have passed the entrance exams without everything I did pick up with the schooling.
I would definitely encourage formal training of some sort because it is such a competitive industry. I honestly don't think you could get hired from home, or pass an entrance exam without a good deal of training. The 98% accuracy they are looking for on their tests is tough to hit without very strong grammar, med terminology, and AAMT/AHDI standards knowledge. I am not making much money now, but I know within a year it will be different. I am home and that is invaluable to me!
Good luck!
Not sure when doctors graduate their patients but
I have boys and we stopped when my oldest was 11 because they always made them strip down to their undies for checkups and checked their privates and I didn't feel that was necessary and my boys hated it.
Lots of doctors graduate with $200,000 in
student loans and a rural setting normally will not pay as much. Maybe the practice is small and enough patient's don't come in, maybe lots of them done have insurance or the insurance companies don't have a set fee across the country that they will approve, but what is the norm for a particular region. More and more larger practices are adding hospitalists so that doctors aren't having to make rounds now, but there was a need to have the office close to a hospital before. If doctors do surgery or don't have hospitalists, being close to a hospital is important so they can get there quickly in the event of an emergency. Some docs want to specialize and there might not be enough interest in rural areas. I also living in a rural setting, though the doctors in our area aren't very good and I would never go to one of them. I think there are still doctors who want to practice in a rural setting, but they just can't afford to.
Some people get jobs even if they don't graduate because
they can't pass their school final. I've seen some that have the poorest grammar skills I've ever seen, yet they still find someone to hire them, even though some of the MTs in India do better work.
did everyone graduate MQs "Code fo Conduct" course? -- what a crock
that's like you stealing my purse and then sending me to class on how not to steal purses....
Sue, I'm inviting YOU when I graduate from nursing school...LOL

I remember when I learned the keyboard-in-lap trick from a new graduate . . .
I was horrified to watch this 20 year in a reclining chair with the keyboard in her lap. I learned old school, of course: Sit up straight, elbows at side, blah blah. Well, it was immediate relief when I plopped that thing in my lap.
BTW, I never did get my invention off the ground - it was going to be a transcriber recliner, especially helpful for those with circulation problems. I wanted to retrofit a recliner so that the foot pedal could fit onto the footrest. Of course, being able to see the monitor might be an issue now that I wear bifocals!
if a high school graduate was correcting my transcibed

Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.) Then you really avoid the tax situation.
Have most people had good luck with their MQ office closing and moving to the regional office. Have
things gotten better or worse for you.
Who IS this gung-ho recent graduate of the Board Police Academy? Lordamercy! nm

Name a state and put every company in that state under suspicion.
Tell what the first letter of the company is and every company with that initial will be suspect. I would imagine that everyone who works for that company has received an inquiry from department of labor, so they would all be aware of it.
Why do we persist in setting up companies to be torn down when there is no reason for it. If a company is suspect, then give the name of the company, don't give big hints that cover at least 5 companies, 4 of which may be the best companies to work for, but fall into the category of an alphabetical letter, etc.
Contact your local BBB in your state and in their state if different from yours.

Not mandatory, as you state it depends on your state - sm
or county. Where I am I do not need it; though if I was cutting grass or landscaping I would where I live, makes no sense to me as I am providing a service, but very happy I don't have to have one. We pay personal property tax here and I would have to list all my business related equipment and pay taxes on it every year I was in business. So until I am told otherwise by my county, I will not be getting a business license.
You are right, it is not the norm at first, but including myself and many others that I know
personally, we do make around 100 or more per day working for a national. It is very possible! You just gottah look.
I still don't understand how someone can have so many years experience, be on the same system, and make less than 175 lines per hour. I don't understand.
Maybe they are not typing fast enough or know enough terms, is all I can think of.
I've switched jobs in the past few months and started off slow, but now up to approximately 200 lph - came from a job where I did 350 lph on WP5.1 and now on an internet platform. I don't kill myself everyday working either.
it usually is......including lottery...sm
one has a better chance of getting hit by lightning than winning a lottery...any lottery.....there is a 1 in 14 million chance of winning THE lottery....and a much smaller chance of getting hit by lightning, at least in Florida....*lol*
I personally know of about 5 or 6, including myself, although I'm sure there are more out there..
....but probably not a LOT more! 8-)

I am not understanding- is that including
our changing, adding, etc. to get the finished report? in other words - if a VR report starts at 87 before our editing, and we have to put in say 3 extra lines, does it still stay at 87 when all is finished? Thanks.

Most veterinarians I know (including specialists) ...sm
hand write their notes on charts or have preset templates for things like procedures that the doctor inserts data into to make a printed report. My dog sees a dermatologist and it only takes him about 2 minutes to send a note through this latter means to her regular vet, and my cat has seen a gastroenterologist who used a preset template when they did an ultrasound on her abdomen when she sent the report to the regular vet.
Due to the expense I would say you'd have a better chance of trying to obtain some work through a specialist veterinarian, but I would think it would be a minimal amount of dictation. Good luck on the search!
If your contract does not have including spaces sm
you can attach an addendum to it to read "9 cents per 65 character line including spaces" and sign it, mail to them and have the owner sign it and send you a copy of the signed contract. If they won't do that, it probably is without spaces and they didn't want to tell you.
My rent, alone, is $1400. Including sm
utilities and everything else, probably about $3600, and I live alone.
About 8.5 cpl 65 characters including spaces. nm

Yes, but every profession, including journalists,
have their own set of rules that they use. I used to know the Associated Press book of style but that was many years ago. But since journalists always use pleaded, I am just that is one of the AP style rules. It is really quite fascinating. Like when referring to the president, the first time they would say President Bush, but subsequent references to him would be Mr. Bush. Also, you never, never, never call someone a suspect without throwing that word ALLEGED in there.
Happy Father's Day to ALL including...nm
I pay .108 cpl, full benefits including PTO. sm
I do not have high turnover but have had accounts stolen out from under me by offshore MTSOs charging 8 to 10 cpl. I can't raise rates because no one will pay them. I am not unhappy, just realistic that the AHDI and their support of offshore companies has made the smaller MTSOs in the USA suffer greatly.
I have employees not ICs and know how to schedule. 4 MTs that were to work did not so I picked up the slack. I was not complaining, just stating facts of why the industry is going downhill.

I would not work without my production software, including spellcheck sm
I think it's great that you were able to do this work in the conditions that you did. But times have changed and we have technology to make us more accurate and more productive, so why not use them??
I have several pieces of software that I use, and if I was offered a job that wouldn't allow me to use any one of them, I would flat out refuse it. i have found the combination that works best for me, and if they can't be flexible to get the best work out of me as possible, then I don't need to work for them!!
Yes, 25 yrs exp in all acute care, including Op Reports, and no response. sm
Personally, I think the companies just get so many resumes and have to weed through them. First come first serve is probably how they handle it. So, my suggestion would be, if you are seriously looking, be one of the first ones to send you resume as soon as the jobs post. Maybe that will help.
To be honest, I have been applying to ads that are a few days to a week old. I think that is probably the key to no response.
