What is considered a good line rate...sm
for working 3rd shift (graveyard). If you work nights, could you let me know what your line rate is? TIA
Decent line rate question......
I have been a MT for 16 years with acute care experience in all specialties. I have also covered various clinic specialties also. The hospital I type for at home is gradually moving everything over to EMR. We will be losing ER reports in June, with discharges to follow thereafter and so forth. We have a couple girls who work the ER notes who are extremely fast so once they are pulled off ER's and start typing the other reports, we will be low/out of work a lot. I have started looking for a supplement to this job and I have had lots of responses and offers. My problem is that I make 11 cpl on a 60-character line for this hospital. All offers I have had thus far are for 8.5 cpl then going to 9 once off QA. This is an acute care position. I also was offered a clinic position with one doctor. They pay 7 cpl and will move me to 8 once off QA. 8 cpl is the maximum they will go. I know there just isn't a company out there that will pay me what I'm making now, but is 7-9 cpl the norm? I just hate thinking of taking this much of a cut. Any information you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks
What is a good line rate for radiology?
Currently being paid by report, 10 years experience. TIA
Radiology transcription, what type of reports are considered radiology
I have lot of experience with everything and I would like to know what exactly is considered radiology so I know if I qualify for that type of work? I've had many types that I think qualify for radiology.
so, what is considered "competitive pay rate"
Hi I am an independent contractor and have been for about 8 years.
But it is about time to look for more work So I was browsing transcription jobs and most of them say the "compensation" is based on competitive pay and experience, etc. Then the one that actually listed it's rate was 6 CPL. woah. Is that considered low or competitive? or is that normally what people start out at? At 10+ years experience I'm hoping I don't have to settle for that... unless they have a bunch of templates and say the same thing all the time! haha.
Just curious as i consider myself pretty new to the concept of having employee status. It's been a long time since I have been and I know change is always hard and I never like it...
Any suggestions/companies/anything to get me started?
Thanks guys!
True but bid for decent rate and wont get
x
Not newbies making 7 cpl! I am like you, lucky to have a decent rate
but that's not the case anymore, you must know that.
Anything on a line (even just initials) is considered a line.
I prefer to use the 65-character line count (including spaces).
Radiology rate ?
Been offered a radiology account -- what is reasonable rate? They are paying 1.40 per report at this time, but will pay line rate if I want. Seems a flat rate would be better on some days, worse on others, but would even out in the end. Any suggestions? (no ESL dictators on this account if that makes a difference - all digital, net based, no cost to me). Thanks and appreciate any input.
Radiology rate - sm
If you get $1.40 per report with no ESL and all the other things you stated, TAKE IT!! and please tell me who offered this? I'm only getting $1.15 per report. It does all even out in the end with long and short reports though. Good luck, and pass on who offered this please?
rate of pay for radiology
Currently working for small MTSO. She pays $1.25 per page for diagnostic reports, regular x-rays. Anywhere from $1.75 to $2.25 for CT or MRIs depending on the account and ease of use of the software
Think about .07 a line ---IF a word is considered 5 characters - sm
So that would be 5000 characters/65 (if a 65-char. line), gets you ~77 lines. Divide 5.5/77 and get .07. Now are spaces included? If so how is that factored in? Presuming from the offer that spaces are not included, .07 is fine if just starting and probably the average if less than 2 years experience.
Radiology report rate
Before taking a radiology transcription position with a transcription company, I searched the archives to see if I could find an average rate per report for radiology. I found all kinds of rates that are being paid, but I thought that $1.40 per report was probably the average. The rate I accepted was $1.10 per report.
I have 24 years of experience in many different specialties. About half of my experience has been in acute care and the other half in radiology.
So far with this new job I have realized that about half of the dictators are OK while a couple of the ESLs take their voice away from the Dictaphone, especially at the ends of sentences. I spend time listening over and over to get those last two words! I've been wondering if I sold myself short.
I'd love to hear opinions from other MTs regarding radiology rates per report, with experience, yet new to company. I would also be grateful for any advice about the dictators who move away from the recorder (or loudly flip films during their dictation).
TIA
anyone know transhealth pay rate for radiology? nm
I've given up on a decent line count. SM
I'm just waiting to be let go and hope I can get unemployment. I don't know how people get a decent line count on DQS.
Can a decent line count be made
doing discharge summaries alone, multiple, consistent, bad doctors, without working 12 hour days?
making a decent line count
Pretty much, yes. Unless you work in a small hospital and even then sometimes that is the case. I worked in a small hospital where we did 15 different work types plus radiology. You can make normals for some of the doctors and others... Line count comes with time and experience. Gaining medical knowledge helps because it helps you figure out what the doctor is saying, even if you can't understand his dictation.
How long does it take to make decent line count?
I am considering joining an outsourcing company. Can you tell me how long it took you, as an experienced transcriptionist, to get up to snuff that you were making a decent wage? And what is your average rate per hour when paid by the line of 65 cpl?
Other than it really is broken a lot, you cannot make a decent line count on it.
It is a horrible disorganized program that is not user friendly like some of the other ones i have had. Sound quality has to be the worst of any company there is. Tech support is nonexistant for at least 6 hours to 6 days. Pay is horrible, especially if you get stuck on editing an account (about 4 cpl) Happy bankrupcy
RE: Other than it really is broken a lot, you cannot make a decent line count on it.
Your opinion is not shared by many who work at Transcend. I personally get all the lines I need using BeyondTXT and I think it is a great platform for transcribing or editing, and I do both, and believe me I have never gotten close to starving. Editing compensation is 60% of transcribing line rate by the way and my compensation is not 4 cpl as you so erroneously posted.
Gross line, also including blank lines because my line rate is so low. It all works out in the wash.

1) do you have a contract stating line counting and line rate,sm
if you look at the IRS website it's pretty clear what constitutes IC versus SE versus employee. You might want to photocopy that along with a copy of your contract with your next invoice and also put on the invoice any monies due from past invoices they "changed"...maybe catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Good luck!
Check the MT jobs available. Nowadays 8 or 9 cents a line is considered good for experienced MTs.
x
That still is not a paid line rate. If your base is $0.10 per line, it will be $0.08 cpl.
Considering other companies pay 4 or 5 cents per line for VR - you are still making out.
I would go with the line rate. At less than 9.5 cents per line sm
I make $30 an hour. I would never transcribe for $15 an hour, for anyone.
Radiology - per report or by line?
I'm switching from a company that pays radiology reports by the report, not line, to a company that pays radiology report by line, not report. Which is better? I've had so many looooong and foul reports, yet we get the same buck per report no matter how long it is. It would seem as tho getting paid per line is better - any thots?
I am paid by the line in radiology and I
Tried being paid by the report but was given long report after long report and actually lost money. Being paid by the report, in my opinion, is good if you have a fairly large amount of x-ray reports which are short and sweet and you can move right through them and that makes up for the longer reports such as MRIs and CTs.
Radiology pay report vs line?
Any opinions on which pays better, 9 Cents a line or $1.10 a report. I have always been paid by the hours, and unsure of which way is better. I am a fairly fast producer.
Thanks! I have also noticed that some radiology is by the page and not the line... sm
is there a specific reason for this?
TIA
What average line count do you type per pay period. what is considered above average and how long
How do I know what the line rate is, since it is the co's
zzz
Line rate - sm
If you do 250 lines per hour at 8 cpl, you would make $20. If you did 300 lines per hour, you would make $24. The platform and many other factors would determine how many lines per hour you could do. I would not expect to be offered much more than 8 cpl for radiology, if that. Good luck.
line rate P.S. - sm
I'm referring to employee status, not IC. You could probably get a little more per line being IC, but I'm not into IC status, so can't say for sure.
Rad line rate - sm
Depends on IC or employee...if employee, you'll be lucky to find 8 cpl, probably 7-7.5 cpl is average. Don't know about IC, but seems they don't offer much more than that anymore. Experience doesn't seem to play much of a role anymore either...seems they offer the same no matter how long you've been doing it. Good luck.
line rate
I agree with Patti. I also work at home and get many distractions but also have accounts that I make around $35 an hour. There is no way I could accurately log in and out on a time card and would also lose money. I am very accurate, as I proofread everything. I like the line rate but agree that companies should pay a higher line rate to more experienced transcriptionists and should be more concerned with accuracy than they are.
line rate
does anyone know what Spheris pays per line or what the going rate is per line.
Is the line rate enough to
make ends meet? Do you have backup work in case their volume drops? Do you have the flexibility you need? These are all questions I would consider before doing IC.
Line rate
In my opinion, 9 to 10 cpl for clinic, 10 to 12 cpl for acute care. These should even be higher if you have your own accounts (no middle man). But like some said below, it all depends on the account and also the way the lines are counted. I have over 12 years experience in all specialties and in acute care, and I have worked for 8 cpl as an IC and made more per hour than working for 11 cpl doing acute care. The 8 cpl was all by templates and I could make many, many normals, averaging about 400+ lines per hour, plus it was easy work.
Ask specific questions about the work, what kind of account, how many doctors, etc. That in my opinion is more important.
line rate sm
Oh boy, now I see a line rate advertised to the "buyer" for 7.9 cents. What are they paying their transcriptionists -- 5 cents?
line rate
Hello. I am applying for an MT job and I have 21 yrs of expereince. They want to pay me 8 cents/line. Is that the going rate? It seems it should be more since I started 21 years ago getting 7 cents/line.
LINE RATE
I AM THINKING THE SAME, I SENT A TON OF RESUMES ON MTJOBS WHO DO YOU WORK FOR OR IS THAT ON YOUR OWN?
line rate
i live in long island. new york!!!!!!!
line rate
i am doing it more from boredom as i have my own accounts also that don't take much time and is not productive enough for what i am used to. it seems like it should be more to me too.

I think it is pretty common knowledge what the average line rate is for nationals, etc. Does anyone know what the national gets paid by the line? I'm wondering because I may have the opportunity to work directly for a hospital without having to go through the middle man. Keeping my fingers crossed. I don't think they have much of a clue of what to charge either so I thought I would just see what an average might be? Thanks.
line rate
that is pretty low to start. Are you brandnew in the field? If no experience, it might be worth it just to gain some.
line rate
I think going by gross line is a good way to go.
line rate
I make 8-9 cpl per gross line, and that is with a middle man, so the docs are paying 12-13 cpl per gross line.
Location is definitely a factor in pricing, but in my case, one MTSO is across the country from me and the other is local. I think that is definitely a low rate for direct office contact.
Line rate
I would like to get my own accounts with doctors but I don't know what to charge. How do I figure out what to charge. Does it matter where I live and what specialties I do?
Line rate
I haven't found anything. What should I do a search for?
Line rate
I charge 15 cpl to my neurosurgeon, only because he takes too long to remit. I do think I will offer a discount like you within 3 days of receipt, of course. But he has never balked at my rate. I almost feel guilty charging this rate.
Per Line Rate
When I started my new job with a national, I told them I would not take less than 9 cents per line for my 20+ years of experience, and they agreed. If we are foolish enough to say okay to the low rate, so much the better for them! I hope everyone listens to this poster because she is so right.
