What do you mean "... and now you lose all you earned for the week"? They're TAKING your earnings and not paying you? Naaa, I don't believe that for one minute.
Work flows wax and wane, it's the old ebb and tide...that's how this industry operates. They have contracts to fulfill, clients to keep happy...it IS a business.
They guarantee you a minimum of work (the minimum you must produce) but short of that, they don't OWE you more lines. Same with working at an hourly rate...you're hired for 40 hours and that's all they have to provide you. You may have opportunities for all the overtime you want but as long as they give you 40 hours of work a week, whether it is a heavy workload or light one, then they've met their work agreement with you.
You're right. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how this industry works...but it does take a little insight.
