if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.

As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
Is is very comfortable there where u live?...nm

comfortable chair/bad back
I know this sounds unlikely but when my standard office chair broke some months ago in the middle of my shift, I removed my $7 K-mart canvas "camp" chair (used for fishing trips and picnics) from its drawstring canvas bag and, unbelievably, this has been the best, most comfortable chair I've had in years! The only drawback, of course, is that it is not on rollers/casters, but it is so lightweight, it's easy to maneuver around. I know it sounds strange but it has been just a blessing for my back & rear.
Six Cents is an excellent income if you live in India or Pakistan!
If a client told me that was the rate of pay they're offering, you'd be amazed just how quickly that conversation would come to an abrupt end.
why yes the quality of air where i live is quite different than where the city people live.
Lots of pollution.  That's why everyone is moving away from the city and areas zoned for multiple housing units and low income housing and trailer parks.  Population is dense and near manufacturing.  So yes, the air is different but millions of people pay a little extra for the quality, the space and privacy afforded to those who move out of polluted crowded areas such as you defend.  There is always a reason why some areas and housing is cheaper than others.  Maybe it is the air and maybe it's something you can't quite put your finger on but you know you would prefer not to live in certain areas.  You know what I mean or are you living in one of those areas?  They tell after awhile you block out the sounds, the smells and get used to the pollution.  I don't know.  I didn't stay long enough to test the theory.  My mental and physical health is way too important to me.
I don't know where you people live
but in my neck of the woods if you are only making $20,000 a year, you are well below proverty level, with all the people who have quit from my old office, that is a drop in the bucket from what they gained from those salaries alone!!!
I think that other people who live in the same neighborhood
also bought their homes and paid good money for them. They have the right to look out their window that they OWN and not be forced to look across the street at Bozo's Big Top.
Some people live like this for years.....

The last time I got out of the hospital I couldn't work for almost two months, and that really set me back.  I'm single so have only one income, and a house payment with a second mortgage.  You can do a lot of things with beans, rice, potatoes.  There are loads of dollar stores and outlet stores almost everywhere...... Big Lots, Grocery Outlet, Wonder Outlet, day-old section in the grocery store... even meat from the day before if you get there early enough.  Sometimes right before bakeries close you can get bags or boxes or donuts and bread for almost nothing.  As for the ice cream, can't help you on that one.  Things are tough everywhere it seems.

And why do we think that we deserve to live better than other people?

This country is plagued with consumerism and lots of people don't seem to know when enough is enough. We have garages for our cars and other stuff when people in other parts of the world don't even have anything close to our garages to live in. No where have I read that only Americans are entitled to all these luxuries that we seem to think we can't live without. (Having food, clothing, shelter and clean drinking water is considered a luxury in many parts of the world, so please don't use that as a bully pulpit.)

I, too, am tired of this argument!

You can't judge people by what coast they live on....
I am originally from the East Coast and I am NOT a "nasty woman". The writer was cold hearted yes....but it doesn't give you the right to blame the East Coast. You could live anywhere...it depends how you were raised in the long run. I was taught to always treat others as I would expect to be treated...imagine that from an East Coast momma! Have a good day.
are there any websites that have live chat for MTs? that actually have people in them?
???
IT people aren't paid well where I live, and I'm not
willing to move to where the money is. The job market is saturated here with qualified IT people, so we fight tooth and nail for a $12/hr job requiring a college degree. I wouldn't say I'm unusually productive at MT. I use ShortHand as an Expander and stick to smaller MTSOs with decent accounts.
I am taking it that you live in my area..and people just don't get it here..
I know this is going to probably upset a lot of people on here, but at this point I have to take up for doxie. I believe she must live in the same area as me, and it is very, very rural..a place where you can barely make enough to survive.

Doxie, I have been an IC for many, many years and love working this way. If you would like to talk about it, please feel free to get in touch with me. I understand what it is like to have to live here and make a decent wage...and I can even tell you how to go about being an IC..which is what your original question was. :)
The truth will set you free and the truth is more low level income people w/o education or proper
skills to keep up their home or train their children live in trailer homes and low income housing. If that sets you off, maybe you should not visit these threads or read the posts regarding others viewpoints on trailer parks. They have zoning laws against them in many communities because they draw undesirable people are not particularly pleasing to the community as a whole, bringing property values down. If you have issues with this, seek out the government in various communities and have them change the laws. Fact is fact and you cannot dispute these facts.
Not sure, I have deductions for federal income tax, SS tax, Medicare tax, and state income tax. ???

trailer parks have long been the but of jokes about the people who live in them.
You know that. If you choose to live in a trailer park that is certainly your right but sorry the stigma is there and I nor the OP created it. There was a running joke about Paula Jones (Clinton's "friend") being trailer park trash. Why? I don't know as I do not live in trailer park nor do I want to because I don't want the stigma. I was looking at property in North Carolina and there was no zoning regulation so the property was across the street from a trailer park which brought property values down. I am not making this up nor do I create it. It is what it is. Oh, BTW, there is a new show coming on MTV, a parody I think of the home improvement shows, where a gay biker type grit, tries to rehab trailer homes. Hilarious. Again, I didn't make it up nor stigmatize trailer parks. Someone took a concept of their idea of people and their trailer homes and ran with it. There is also the same idea in Blue Collar TV with Jeff Foxworthy on Comedy Channel.

Bottom line, there is a stigma to living in a trailer park and you have to learn to live with that. I personally can't live with the stigma and do not entertain the thought of moving to a trailer park. I think it would be hard on my kids to have that trailer park stigma on them as they enter school.
I think I misstated it - the at home people live within an hour of the hospital - sm
this is what the hospital is absolutely positively trying to avoid - having people all over the country doing the job. If the equipment breaks, if there are meetings, etc. - these cannot be done with transcriptionists all of the country.
I don't know! I've heard people live longer with a healthy sex life.
n
This is what MQ wants you to believe. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE makes people back off but believe me it
just isnt so. Those damn office people are told to say that so people cringe and say oh my I am the only one. Well, when you hear that line from now on you should know they are lying through their teeth and tell them to jam that line up their behinds. Makes me sick. I have some people in my office that actually tell the truth and that is very few and far between in MQ and I know the truth and it is not YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE. Wait until your account now goes through ASR on DQS which it will and you get the real crappo work to further make you struggle so they can hire inexperienced people and stick them on ASR because that is all they can handle.
looking for people that used to work for small MTSO in Suffield, OH a few years back.
ss
You might get more comfortable with it and you

might be able to feed your kids, but think of all the time you spent doing all that crap when you could have been producing lines.   I worked for YOG years ago and their demographics screen was EXTREMELY time consuming and probably added at least an hour to my workday that I wasn't getting paid for.

Change is harder for some and it takes a month or more sometimes to get a real feel for things, but I know there are better platforms and don't understand why if one company can come up with as easy platform, then why can't the others too.

They look comfortable, but how do you (sm)
use a foot pedal with the knee chair?
Most comfortable chair please!
I am on a quest for a new office chair.  Cannot afford the Aeron.  Any other comparable ones out there????? Thanks!
Do what YOU feel comfortable doing. It's your day.
good luck
Comfortable Chair?
Any suggestions on a COMFORTABLE office chair with good lumbar support that doesn't cost $600?  Thanks!
comfortable chair
I cannot afford an expensive chair, so went to Staples, got a leather chair, high back and arms, adjustable back and seat, ergonomically correct and it works for me. I have sciatica and neck and shoulder problems and this chair works fine - I paid 100.00 for it on sale.
comfortable chair
Hi - I found a great chair from the Hon company, their model 7608 from the Unanimous series. This chair retails for about $500, but many online dealers carry it for under $350. It's a quality chair and everything on it is adjustable - seat depth, back tilt and height, arm heighth and width, etc...

I'm really enjoying mine and got it from CSNchairs.com for $349.

Good luck!
Comfortable Chairs?
Anyone have any ideas for comfortable chairs, affordable comfortable chairs? I've been looking for a good chair and can't seem to find one.
Comfortable headphones
I get a headache from my Spectra headphones if I use them for an extended time. My old ones (Sony?) did not have that problem, but the sound was not great and now they are broken anyhow. Suggestions as to something that would not put much pressure on the ears/head, but would have decent sound quality for digital dictation? (no earbuds)
I can't get comfortable when I am working
Maybe it is my setup.  The chair is old and weird-shaped, and the desk is awkward.  Any suggestions on equipment/furniture that will help me out?  I have a nice ergonomic keyboard, but other than that I'm so uncomfortable..  Plus, I don't have that much money.  What options would I have with a laptop?  What are some good chairs?
Comfortable chair
I am in search of a comfortable office chair.  I need one without armrests because I get "elbow burn".  The one I have now is worn out.  It keeps losing air and before the night is over I am practically sitting on the floor and have to readjust it.  Any suggestions?  May I ask what you have, the cost, and where you purchased it?  TIA
So you'd be comfortable hearing
that you have an eye disease like glaucoma or retinal detachment or cataracts or diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration, which will render you blind in time? Come on, eyes and teeth and feet and all the other parts are all protected by HIPAA, silly!
Most comfortable chairs.

Okay.  So, I have gone through two chairs trying to find a truly comfortable one and I am just not having any luck.  I believe because I am constantly trying to adjust myself to get comfortable in my chair, it affects my productivity.  My rear end starts to hurt and my tailbone will get sore when I shift.   I am just so tired for the search for a comfy chair.  So, would you all mind sharing with me a fairly economical comfortable chair preference?

Thank you so much,

why no, i don't live in snobville. did you think you knew me? i live in heritage hills a suburb
it takes a little longer to get to work and shopping but thank god i have some privacy and am away from the congestion.  lovely trees and lakes all around.  maybe about 20 minutes to a large shopping mall.  but no, i don't even know where snobville is.
Yes, a larger font would be more comfortable. Thx! nm

Is anyone out there that is heavy truly comfortable with their body? sm

I have had a struggle with weight my entire life. As we speak now I am on Weight Watchers.  I don't want to be model thin because I know that is never happening and some people aren't made to be that way.  I am tall, an inch from being 6'.  Before when I look at pictures I am thinking "Hey, I was not so bad.  I DID carry my weight well."  But during those times I thought I was horrible.  Now, just topped the scale to 300 and I am scared to death!  In the past year, since working from home and being depressed, I have put on an easily 50 lbs.  I weigh more than I weighed with being 9 months pregnant with my son.

Anyway, I know for my health I need to get my weight down.  But the question is - if you are heavy, how do you feel good about yourself and your body, enough to let that stress go so you can focus on other things in life?  This consumes my every thought.  Sometimes I think I need to see a psychiatrist to get this matter resolved.

I pray daily and ask God to help.  I feel if I can learn to have a better self image of myself that I CAN conquer this goal and lose the weight.

Tips please....I don't look at other heavy women as ugly and fat.  A lot of people I couldn't imagine being thin, yet they look great!  I just wish I could picture myself that way.

BTW - in the almost 6 years my husband and I have been married, he has NEVER seen my naked, even when I wasn't so heavy.  It is always "give me the covers, turn out the lights" and never intimate without clothes on.  I want real intimacy.  I want to feel good about myself. How do I achieve this while in the process of losing weight?

I agree with other poster -- it's your day and you should be comfortable and do exactly what you
want -- You could go with a simple headpiece with no veil.  I have seen one woman married in a very simple tiara which was beautiful.
Me too! I'd love a new comfortable chair (nm)
s
Problem is they ALL feel comfortable
when trying them out in a store. You have to test drive it for a 4-hour stint to get the real feel of a work chair. That's how it is for me, anyway.
I weigh 290, am 5ƍ" and totally comfortable...sm
with my body. I've been overweight since I was a child. I've lost the weight several times over the past 30+ years but didn't maintain it long because I do enjoy eating. I work out at the gym 4 times a week. I got married this summer to a wonderful man that loves me for who I am and doesn't care that I'm fat. I have no problems with being naked in front of him. He is about 15 pounds overweight so he's basically at a good weight.

I have yearly physicals done and my labs always look great. I've read many articles/research studies showing that it's actually safer for an overweight person to stay at their weight than to go up and down the scales because yo-yo dieting isn't good on the body. I'm quite content with the way I look. I do anything I want to do. I don't get it while some people think that if you're fat you don't have energy. I have tons of energy - and each time I've lost weight it didn't increase my energy. I basically do whatever I want to do and enjoy life each day.
I've heard they are comfortable, though never tried one. Wasn't sure how
I would be able to use my foot pedal with it.
I know they live a long time, so if there is a chance they will out live you - sm
make sure you make provisions for them in your will. I have only had cockatiels and some finches, so don't really know anything about the bigger birds. I love African Grey's but they are very expensive.
Don't give dates. Just summarize your experience. I'm perfectly comfortable with this.
Heading out of town, you guys all have fun while I'm gone!
Good point. I guess if you do not feel comfortable dislosing sm

a list of your clients to your subcontractors, you could only hold them liable if they try to contract work with the clients they know about, i.e. whichever accounts they work on.  If you have accounts with Hospitals A, B, C, and D, but the MT only works for and knows about Hospital A, then seems like she would be within her rights to solicit work from the others since she does not know they are your clients.  I am curious, though, if you have them sign a noncompete clause already and they are working for you, why would you be reluctant to share that information with them?  They would be bound by the contract.  Maybe I am missing something .. I usually do (ha).

Hope you figure out a solution to your dilemma.  :-)

Morency board and Kinesis keyboard along with comfortable chair
Hi, I have been doing transcription for 14 years and about 4 years ago purchased a Kinesis keyboard and Morency arm rest board and they have been a lifesaver.  The key to a comfortable chair is one you can adjust the height, back, seat, etc and once you get it comfortable make sure no one changes it ! Some chairs have arm rests if you don't get a Morency board and help out.
I've heard you can normally expect about 3 months before you feel comfortable on a new account. n

Wear scrubs, they're comfortable and you fell like you getting dressed for work See message.
Go to a local scrub shop, you can get a big bag full for about 100 bucks
Live and let live. Don't force your lifestyle on me.
