I have a rose...sm
I have a rose on my right shoulder, well the back of my shoulder. I've had it for about six years now. It's the only one I have. I have considered getting another, but just haven't come across the right one yet. If you are going to get one, make sure it is something that has some meaning for you as it will be there forever. I would definately advise against putting anyones name on your body, even if it is your spouse. The only name I would ever put on me would be my child's name.
As far as the pain goes, I won't lie to you...it does hurt. Depending on where you get it on your body will depend on just how bad it will hurt though. When I got mine, the pain was not all that intense. It feels kind of like a bee sting...that continues and continues until they stop with the needle. Getting the outline done is the worst part as the needles are a bit larger. The part on mine that hurt the most was when he was near my shoulder blade and that is because when you are over bone it is going to hurt worse because there is not a lot of muscle there to cushion it. The good news is, when they stop, the pain stops. At least that's how it was in my case.
Another thing...to prevent your tattoo from fading as fast (and your tattoo artist should tell you this if he/she is good) if you are in the sun make sure you put sunblock on your tattoo. It is good to put sublock on your body anyway, but make sure especially to put sunblock on your tattoo, as the sun is a sure way to drain the color out of your tattoo a lot faster. I got mine done a little over six years ago and it still looks like new. Also, if you do decide to get one, follow the aftercare instructions very carefully. My tattoo artist had special ointment to put on the tattoo after it was finished, but I understand that A&D ointment (for diaper rash) works well also. You have to keep it moist to prevent it from scabbing over.
Bottom line is, a tattoo is a life-long piece of artwork for your body. You should pick something that is meaningful to you and put it in a place that you would like it to be. Personally, I would never put one in a place that could not be covered up if need be...but that's just me.
Good luck!
Thanks, Rose........... sm
I have tried this numerous times and have been on the phone with my ISP tech support gang multiple times, only to be told that the problem must lie with my computer. It would seem that something is keeping my wireless computer from receiving a signal from the router, but I don't know what it is. The wireless receiver is only about 6 months old.
Hi Rose
The only other info I want to know is, are you hiring? Just kidding (sort of :)). Good for you, though. You go, girl!
Rose, - see message
I believe Sten-Tel has quite a few of the hospital accounts in Long Island. In fact, a few years ago I worked for a hospital in Nassau County while I lived in Manhattan, and they unfortunately outsourced to Sten-Tel.
However, there is a hospital in Manahawkin, NJ called Southern Ocean County Hospital, and they are looking for a radiology transcriptionist. It might be worth a shot to see if they would be interested in have a telecommuting position to you!! It would be worth a shot.
Rose, get this again.. unbelievable but
I was told by the company I work for that I was not supposed to refer to them, they do their own choosing. Well, ok, I only tried to get in contact regarding this 1 time and needless to say, would you try again? I think not. I do love VR and work part-time now and make enough in those days to pay my bills, etc. Good luck with whatever you do!
I think I may need glasses because I am getting the most
horrific migraine headaches after I transcribe for about 3 hours. I tried shifting my desk around and bought a new monitor because the old one was really dim but nothing seems to be helping. The thing is I can read fine whether I'm on the computer or reading a book or newspaper. Any thoughts?
SORRY, NO GLASSES
My previous post is in response to the angry QAr who started this, not to the person who commented back to her. I apologize. Glasses are???? Oh well, if you all think this is bad you should see her original post - the one that "disappeared." I responded to her then, but someone "poofed" it off or something. Good thing I saved a copy! At least she did a better job this time. Too bad she is not a good colleague. It does no good to cast doubt on the skills of your colleagues. Could this be yet another reason our work is off-shored? Is it because of QA people who like to show their A$$ in a public forum and make others look like a bunch of ignorant chumps? If I QAd for transcriptionists who were that bad, I would be looking for another position where the administration had integrity and hired qualified MTs. Vacation time for her could help? I don't care how much college she has or whether or not her postings are going to a "client" or "medical record", she should do her best to be a good example to all the "little people" (as I assume that is how she sees us). I think she is a fake! The QA people I work with have excellent communication skills and do not make such glaring mistakes on memos or postings viewed by others. If they have something to say regarding the quality of anyone's work they address it to that individual along with a plan on how to avoid it in the future.
Sorry, No Glasses
I loved your post! I don't, however, believe that "bad QA or QAers" are the reason for offshoring--it is simply a bottom line cost factor with the company's head honchos getting huge "bonuses" for saving the company so much money (a percentage of the cost savings).
I now know I was one of the lucky ones. I say that, because in 1964 at age 17, I started my medical career (medical secretary then but with transcription as one of the duties) and had some of the most wonderfully patient and knowledgeable women "teaching" me. Most of them, however, are no longer alive and sad to say I never did get a chance to tell each and every one how much what they offered me meant to me!
I wonder if this QA person you're referring to has something else going on in her life that is coloring her ability to properly focus on the job right now. We're only human beings and by saying that I'm not suggesting that her behavior is in any way warranted, but it just might explain her reaction(s) to the situation. If the behavior continues, however, I know I would be contacting her superior just as a heads up so she might find taking a few days off just to "regroup" or, in the alternative, perhaps a few counseling sessions might be in order. I had a wonderful QA manager when I was at a very large MTSO who could read me like a book and believe me, even though she was only 4'11", when she spoke we ALL LISTENED..... Even with her short stature, she never made us feel "small" and I've always thanked God for bringing me into her life even ever so briefly.
Have a good evening and keep on keepin' on!
see Rose's message above; appears to be more to this.

Computer glasses.
They're great for me. Don't have to look through the top or bottom of bifocals. You can get an Rx for them when you get your eyes examined.
Time for glasses.
When's the last time you had an eye examination, or is it that you don't know how to read and comprehend?? Whatever your problem may be, you should really take care of it because no where in my post did I say OR infer Canada was a third-world country (Trying to are you?????)
If you're going to try and flame, take it to another board. As for this subject matter, if you can't stick to the subject, don't say anything, and that includes trying to put words in peoples mouths because you WILL be called on the carpet for it!
But speaking of third-world countries, guess what? If something doesn't give soon with the moron we unfortunately have for president, the United States of America WILL become a third-world country. It's certainly racing in that direction at lightening speed!
I had to get computer-only glasses.
They aren't reading glasses and they aren't regular glasses...strictly a strength for monitor use. What a difference! No more migraines, no more squinting, no more blowing up the font to retarded sizes. Because they are single strength and only for work, I got fugly frames and heavier-than-normal lenses, which made them more affordable...about $90. My bifocals cost over $250 in comparison. Well worth the investment though not to be in pain anymore.
Now...if I could only find a chair with that kind of $90 budget that won't frig up the rest of my body! :)
Sorry, typed the above without glasses

Any good ideas for rose bushes? sm
I'm thinking of planting rose bushes along our new fence and just can't decide from all the varieties. I do want some that bloom all summer long and are winter hardy. Illinois can be brutal sometimes.
The Rose. Good luck to your daughter. nm

Rose, I had asked pretty much the same question...
a while back. Here's what I gathered: QA is generally paid by the hour (at my company it's about 15 to 18/hr). Apparently it IS easier on the hands/fingers/wrists. That is why I was considering it--starting to get tingling/pain in my hands at times. Unfortunately for me, I make a bit more than 18/hr so I would have to actually take a pay cut. Don't know it that would be the case for you or not.
I only have about 10 years' experience. With your 25 years maybe you could find a better hourly somewhere.
Good luck in whatever you do.
I have computer prescription glasses.
Heard about them once while doing a report so I asked about them, the strenght is for 3' vision of my normal glasses.
oops - meant 1% do not have my glasses on

Glasses in hotel rooms. Uh Oh...
And people worry about the local water
This is a must read! Our health when traveling depends on what we know about hotel practices.
Sorry I took so long but couldn't find my glasses :)
I can't afford new glasses, let alone Lasix. Also Lasix only corrects one or the other (near or far). I suppose if I could afford it, I'd go for near (being able to see clearly in the distance). However, I have looked into not only the cost, but the fact that they actuall cut your cornea part way off, do the surgery underneath and then reconnect your cornea. I'm like EEUUUWWW, I don't think so!
I'm my husband's ears and sometimes he's my eyes. I'll say, "HONEY, JIM IS ON THE PHONE!" and he'll say "Honey, watch out for that curb."
We have a sense of humor about these things, fortunately. He does read lips very well and I have gotten myself into trouble on occasion when I was mad at him. :)

Weird, isn't it? I had two Rose of Sharon bushes, one I bought for my mother
and planted it in her yard. The other I bought for myself and planted it in my yard. My mother passed away in 1993 and my bush died a month later. My father passed away in 1996 and that bush in their yard died a month later. Both passed on in August, 3 years and 5 days from one another. Makes you wonder.
That's a great news Rose, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter
guess, that all we could do for now.
Totally agree. Don Juan climbing rose is nice, too. sm
I love my antique rose, but wish the flowers lasted longer.
My dear friends husband has died. He was truly Australia's Rose.

Dollar store reading glasses work for me.
Just bought 4 pair at a 2.25 magnification today, as the more I do this, the worse it gets. Started with a 1.25 a year ago.
I knew it was time when I had to wear two pair of 1.75's on top of each other so I could thread my sewing machine needle.
Ahhh, the "golden years."
I don't. Have the unlined version, they suck too. I use reading glasses that

Any rose gardeners out there? Good roses that are disease proof and smell good?
I heard good things about Knockout Rose but they don't smell too much like traditional rose. Supposedly blooms all season.
You can get clip-on magnifiying lens to put on your glasses, like clip-on sunglasses. nm

MT companies negotiate with the insurance companies until they get what they want
It is strictly up to the agreement between the employer and the insurance company. Your new employer can tell you what the pre-existing clause is in your new policy. Some require proof of insurance for the past 12 months. It may say something like if a diagnosis has not been made NOR treatment received within the last __ months. Not good when companies negotiate with a pre-existing clause in order to get a lower rate. Better check with your HR with your new company before doing anything. It really gets hairy !
Most companies do no use their only files (HIPAA). They use files provided by other companies, serv
If you can get through the test files, then the sound quality on the actual company files is better. And, the dictation is never as bad as the test files, plus you have QA to help with hard blanks.
MT companies
Hi, there are many MT companies out there, and there are some that you should steer clear of. The one company who scammed me real good for 2 years was amatrans-am out of Valrico, FL. If you see an ad for them run in the other direction. Or just check the BBB. They have really scammed a whole lot of people unfortunately....but there are better ones. But just stay away from the ones that ask you to do like 1,000 lines a day. You won't be able to do it, or if you could you would be dragging yourself off to bed, only to have to get up early the next morning to begin it all over again.
After a couple of years, I am now working, but mind you, I am really a semi-newbie, and I only make 4 cpl. The money won't make you rich, but the experience can be very rewarding, and what you learn keeps your mind working. If you want any more info, feel free to e-mail me brooklyngirl1112@hotmail.com

Are all companies like SS?
I think I will stick to my day job god....
Why is it okay for other companies
to be informed about and not this one. My heart bleeds for these MTs. Obviously, it is not just one employee posting here. Can you imagine the frustration of watching your fingers move more and more and your paycheck go down without being told or informed why. They have a right to vent and warn. I want to be warned ahead of time before I make a mistake. No slander involved, facts are facts and that is it.
What companies, if any,
. . . hire and actually promote professionals who have forgotten more than many MTs know, have years and years of experience, work when needed, don't rock the boat, and produce excellent work? At my company, the editors and managers usually have just a few years of experience as an MT, if any, and many have no management experience. Some managers have never even seen a typed document. That doesn't make sense. What companies give one a chance to actually grow with them? Any of them? How do the promotions go to those who took an on-line class and have been an MT for 2 years? Kudos to anyone who could answer this . . . Bewildered
USA companies only for me.

What are some of the best small companies that you have worked for? Does anyone live out in the sticks and is on dial-up?
MT COMPANIES
do u like working for this company. Do they treat you fairly. I was told to download and they will give me first files to fit me with proper account. They have been great. Does this continue? Please let me know. While on the subject does anyone have any information on Amphion, Medware, QTmedical, Orion and Transhealth. Any information appreciated.
Does anyone have any information on smaller companies hiring at this time.
What it is with these companies?
I am now on my third job since deciding to work at home August 2005. What is it with these companies? Don't they realize that without us (transcriptionists) they have no business???? I have been lied to, nit-picky QA'd to death, had money taken away from me, treated like crap, and received nasty emails. Every time get familiar enough with account to start making some real $, guess what? Get switched to another account. I have always worked for hospitals, clinics, etc. 20+ years and never have I encountered such treatment. It is just amazing, actually no, it is pathetic. This third job is it. If this does not work out, going back to the hospital. I have a lot of admiration for those of you who tough it out and are still working for these amazingly unprofessional companies. Maybe that is why there is so much outsourcing. Workers in other countries will take their CRAP.
