Of course he got booted and America got it wrong again! But that is nothing new...look at Carrie, Ruben and Fantasia, not one of them was "the best" singer/performer. America hasn't gotten it right since Kelly Clarkson.

Not Singer
Singer stopped making decent machines a decade or so ago. Look into Brother or Pfaff. I agree with talking to the teacher. One thing you will want will be a one-step button hole if at all possible. To tell you the truth, 99.9% of your sewing will be straight and zig-zag of various lengths and widths. You probably won't ever use most of the decorative stitches. Variation in pressor feet will be more important than variation in stitch type. Go to a store where you can sit down and try machines out. Try lots of things. Does changing the bobbin, needles, feet, etc., seem intuitive, or are they hard to deal with? Are the pressor feet nice and steady, can't stand the jiggly ones, it's hard to keep an nice straight line for top stitching with those types. One thing I found on my current machine that drives me nuts (sometimes you just don't know until you take it home and live with it) is the needle always stops on the up position. I'd rather I got to pick. Making tight turns, etc., I like to have the needle hold the fabric while I rotate it, so I'd rather the needle stopped down or up, where ever I commanded it to stop. Sigh.. Anyway, try them out. You will probably end up paying $400 for a decent machine, but you will have it for the next decade or two, maybe more.
To the singer's Mom (from post below)
Let us know which 3 songs your daughter chooses! And wish her luck for me! Keep us posted on how she does in the contest!!!
Ruben Stoddard is a far better singer....nm
I use a Singer, was about $200 years ago- lots of different stitches -sm
But Singer makes a good sewing machine and has many models, check them out. I am about to drag mine out to make curtains....redoings kids rooms, the curtains they wanted w/ valance would have been around $140...I bought the material for $30 for both kids (curtains and valance), already have a pattern (plus I know how to make them too). So now to find the TIME as I work just about every day, yuk, but for saving $110 I guess I will soon.

OT: Girl singer on the July 4th shows - did anyone catch this show on the Fourth?
I'm trying to find the name of one of the performers on the evening of the Fourth who sang God Bless the Child (I think it was on the show where the President attended). Does anyone know who that singer was? I missed the first half of her song and they did not announce her name again at the end. I thought it might have been Brandy but I haven't kept up with celebs lately.
Thanks in advance.
She's tiny, cute, rich, famous, drug free, and a great singer.
Oh, what a horrible person! (sarcasm)
Let your teachers make recommendations, but a basic Singer or Sears machine is fine. nm
